Booking question

I'm watching for the spring 2018 dates to come up and I was wondering if anyone knows the best way to book a cruise using a placeholder on board booking. If I log in to my DCL account will I be able to apply the discount when I book or will I have to just book the cruise then amend it later with the discount? I'm not using a travel agent for this cruise. If anyone has any tips for doing this I'd appreciate this.

Last I tried, you cannot transfer a placeholder reservation to an actual cruise online. You will need to call and get DCL to transfer it to the cruise of your choice when the dates are released.

I believe you must call to assign a placeholder to an actual date. If you want to avoid the long holds on opening day, you could assign it to a "dummy" cruise now (just pick a date) and then you should be able to change it online. I say should because I had one reservation that glitched and I had to call to change the date.
