Our UY is April.
We have already booked our 2009 points for this year; however, we have just added a Christmas 2009 trip to our plans.

I know that I can normally book VWL at 11 months out which will be Jan 25.
Do I have to wait until April to get access to my 2010 points or can I borrow them in January? If I have to wait until April, can I book with cash ressie and then change to points in April?

When you call Jan 25, you can use any points banked from April 2008 use year, any points available from April 2009 use year, and borrow any amount of points needed from April 2010 use year. Whether you need to bank or can borrow always depends on dates you will be there not date you call to reserve.

You can borrow since your Jan trip is before April. You don't need to borrow if you make a trip in April or afterwards. They can see when your points will come on and how many.

As far as booking with a deposit and then changing to points, I don't know but I would guess to say not.

A 12/09 trip would be in your 2009 use year so you can borrow 2010 points. You never have to wait for points to come into your account, they are already available based on the use year of your date of stay.

Regarding your other question, you cannot book cash and then just change it to points. You would have to cancel the cash reservation and book the points reservation based on availability at the time.

And cash availability and points availability are entirely separate things. Canceling a cash room doesn't mean that room will become available for points , so don't expect that you're "holding" it for yourself with cash -- cash and points rooms are entirely different sets of inventory.

Thanks. That's what I thought too. I also thought that even if I could do it, there might be a waitlist that would get my room before I could rebook.

Thanks for all the replies.
I had asked MS previously, but he sounded confused when I asked him and told me I couldn't book using 2010 points until April 2009.

I have never had to borrow so far out, so I didn't know any better. I figured people on the DIS would be the most knowledgable and could either confirm the CM info or give me the right info. I like all your answers better!

Now, I will have to camp out by the phone to call MS on 1/25 and hope for VWL
