Booking onboard then transferring to TA or another date

We booked onboard, received 10% discount and $200 onboard credit for new cruise. My understanding, from the DCL CM, is that I would keep the rate, but not the onboard credit, if I transferred to a TA.

Now I have read comments of those who think that the onboard credit would also transfer. I don't recall that any of those who believed that was the case that had actually cruised under these circumstances, and were certain that they did keep the onboard credit given for booking while on a previous cruise. {lost anyone yet? }

Also, this was not mentioned by DCL, but I have also seen references that if we are unable to cruise on the date booked onboard, that we can re-book for another date, and get a 10% discount on the new date and the same $200 credit. Is that for real? Help!

My understanding has always been that if you book onboard, then transfer to TA, regardless of TA's pricing, you are able to keep $200.00 credit...

I just checked with John from Dreams Unlimited he has assured me that for any reservation you transfer to Dreams - you keep your shipboard credit and get their terrific rebate as well!!!!

I also have booked onboard and then changed the dates of the cruise, the price was different because we switched to a busier time, but all other benefits of booking onboard the ship were still valid.

I appreciate the info. Next week I should be able to get our school calendar for the upcoming year. I suspect that we may have to change the dates, but regardless if I can get some additional benefits without losing the onboard booking discounted price and the onboard credit, then I will transfer to a travel agent.

Does your deposit get billed to your ship board account?

No, your deposit goes on the credit card you designate. We put our TA , the same one we had used for this trip, on our reservation when we rebooked on board. DCL had all of her info in their computer already. Our local TA contacted us as soon as we were home, thanked us for designating her, and sent the documents confirming the reservation on her agency's stationary.

We actually needed a date that was not yet available for booking, but we were told we can transfer the deposit, discount and credit to that new date.
