If I book my hotel now for January 2022 and a discount comes out in October (I’ve done my research on historical release dates for discounts), can I apply it if I haven’t paid off my reservation?

Yup! Whether you've paid $0 or paid in full, you can call and apply the discount if it is available for your resort/room type.

When you say follow up, do you mean to call in and double check with a CM?

Correct, if you used a travel agent I believe that most will apply the discount, but if you booked yourself make sure to check back when discounts are released. I believe you can do it all online but a CM will help with any questions.
