Edit: Sorry for starting like 3 threads this week, i'll try and reign it in a bit!

I've read online that you cannot book more than 7 days when your 11 month window comes up at your home resort. Is this true?

Coming from the UK, we would be looking to travel for 14 nights usually (maybe 10 on occasion), what is the best way of doing this? The 7 day limit is really frustrating for people that have to visit for extended periods of time.

Secondly, if it's a matter of booking 7 days as soon as the 11 month window begins and then every consecutive day logging in and tagging on an extra one, how realistic is this at? I do worry that we would never be able to manage to secure 14 consecutive days, is it at all possible?

Yes it is true.

This is one approach, yes. You can wait a few days and add more than one day at a time. For units that are not high demand you can wait until 11 months + length of stay and book the whole thing.

People do it all the time without issues.

The 7 day rule is essential or else it would have people with large contracts doing a new kind of walk that blocks people from booking.

Ah that makes sense I hadn't thought of that, as long as its not a problem to book longer stays then I won't worry too much, thanks :)

Right at the opening of the 11 month window, you can book a reservation that extends 7 days deep into the window. Then, every day, you can add one more day to that reservation, always extending UP TO 7 DAYS into the window.

During this time, no one can jump past you and block you. So, for instance, on January 1st, 2020, you can book a 7 night stay starting December 1st, 2020. Then, if you want to extend it farther, every day or two or three you should sign on and pick up 2 or 3 more days.

You could, theoretically, wait until 6 days have passed and pick up 6 days, or even right on 7 days you could pick up 7 more, but I wouldn't wait that long. I would pick up days every day or two, to make sure my reservation still extends as deep as possible into the 11 month window. Why wouldn't I wait that long? Well, after 7 days you are back in the pool with everyone else who is trying to get those dates, and if something happens and you forget, or if the program is down for some reason, or your computer just has trouble connecting for a couple of days, and you keep getting the Dwarven Screen of Death (and we have all seen these things), you might be out of luck, because by the time you finally are able to connect again, your 7 days deep into the window might have evaporated, and other people might now have jumped past you and taken all the reservations. This is most likely to ONLY happen with the most popular reservations, but it does happen.

ONE ADDENDUM: I want to also mention, however, that if your 7 days crosses the end of the end of the month, if the month you are currently in has 30 days (or 28 days), and the month you are booking for has 31 days, then you won't be able to add that next day (to make 7 days) until the dates line up again. In other words, on the 30th, you can book the 30th of the month that is 11 months out, but if that month has 31 days and you have only 30 days, then you will need to wait until the 1st of the next month, when you will be able to add both the 31st and the 1st, on the same day.

Note that the same rule applies to the 7 month window, in that you cannot book another resort at exactly 7 months out for more than 7 nights.

At the 11 month window, you can book your home resort for 7 nights, then wait up to 6 days to modify the reservation to add more nights, e.g., book November 22-29, 2020 today, December 22, 2019, and you can wait up until Dec 28 to do a modication to extend the reservation to a Dec 5 departure dateand then wait until Jan 4 to extend it one more night to a Dec 6 departure.

You can do that and still get the dates you want because once you make that first 11 month reservation, everyone else is blocked from getting the room you have for each night reserved, and every night thereafter because they cannot get a start date for your room for all the nights you already have. As noted above however, you may not want to wait long to add nights because something could prevent you from doing the change on that one that 6th night.

The above does not really work for 7-month reservations. The problem there is that if you can actually get your first 7 nights, and when doing so see the nights thereafter are still open, those extra nights that you want to add can disappear at any time via a reservation from an owner of the resort. As a result, you can easily lose those extra nights and if you want those, your best chance is to reserve 7 nights at 7 months out and then attempt to add days daily.

Thanks so much for this, makes total sense :)

So at the 11 month mark, I log in and book 7 days, then the next day I modify my reservation by adding 1 day, or do I need to call to add the day?

I will start this process on the 1st. A week and then add one night at a time for 5 more nights.
Then send all the info to MS and have them link them into one.

I feel your pain OP - We've had to do this as we're doing 15 nights in August next year - 7 nights at BCV and 8 nights at Poly.
Our home resort is AKL so at 11 months, I did 3 reservations - 1 at 11 months for 7 nights, 1 7 days later for 1 day and then another the next day for 7 days.
Had no problems at all getting any of the home resort bookings.
My plan at 7 months out is to switch 1st reservation to BCV, then 7 days later book switch 1 night to Poly, then next day switch the 7 day to Poly and merge the last 2 reservations with Disney services.

It's my first go at this and it's a bot stressful, but I think everything should work out ok.

Everyone think that's the best way to do it?

You will only be able to add those nights by modifying the original reservation which will mean it's all one reservation already (no need to have them linked).

Hmmmm......I've never done that.
How does it work?
Modify button and then just add a day at a time? i think last time I did this that wasn't an option. This will be easier for sure
Thanks

So, if I book 7 nights at my home resort at 11 months out and then modify as needed to extend to say 10 nights, but then go to change resorts at 7 months, do I have to drop the extra 3 nights or can the whole reservation go as a block?

When booking right at 7 months, even if modifying, you will be limited to 7 nights.

If you want to able to ensure you don’t lose those 3 nights, book them as a separate reservation...The draw back of this is that you then have to wait for 11 months from that date vs, just modifying and adding.

If you're modifying to a new resort the entire first reservation will be cancelled.

I’ve been wondering how that works!! Thanks 👏🏻
