Booking Grand Californian

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to LA and DL from January 12 - 20th. We are staying at DL from January 12th - 14th. We really want to stay at the Grand Californian with a Theme Park view. I was trying to price quote this hotel, but every date I tried was booked and I cannot check it out online for the actual dates I want to go because it won't let me check for 2008. This trip is not fully definite right now, as my boyfriend is graduating the NYPD police academy in June and he won't know his schedule and when he can get vacation until he gets placed in a precint. Anyway, I am worried that by the time I can book this trip, the Grand Californian will be booked. When would be a good time to book this trip? Does this hotel usually book quickly? Is January a very busy time? I suppose I could always book it and cancel it if need be, but I'd like to really avoid this. Any tips would be great! Thanks!

Disney probably hasn't released the rooms for 2008 yet on line, or the prices. I would call them directly, explain the situation and see what they advise. January is not very busy traditionally once you get past the Christmas school holidays. (Which you are) We booked for Dec 14-19, 2006 in October at the GCH, with the 4th night free.
