I know they have changed how you can book for holidays and it is no longer necessary to book day by day...but if you wanted to book the Monday through Friday of Thanksgiving next year including Thanksgiving and the day after, would you try at the 11 month window for the previous Friday through Friday and then release the Friday, Sat and Sunday?

I've done about five different DVC Thanksgiving week vacations and I've never needed any special strategies for getting our villa. I guess if you were doing a grand villa I might consider it, but if you are doing a studio, one or two bedroom I don't think you need to worry if you are calling at 11 months out. It will be more hassle than needed.

I book starting the Sunday before Thanksgiving at BLT (my home resort)- last year I was a few days late and couldn't get a Standard studio but the previous year I did get a standard view for the time- it was the last standard and I think I called before 10am. So it just depends on what type of room you are looking to get.

I've booked 5 Thanksgiving trips and always just called in at 11 months. No problem getting a Grand Villa at SSR for the last couple of years. We usually go Fri-Fri.

For those of you that have been to WDW during Thanksgiving week, what do you think of the crowd level? Is it "Christmas busy" towards the end of the week?

Our extended family is thinking of traveling from the Saturday before Thanksgiving to the Saturday after and I am just not feeling it.

We have booked at least three Thanksgiving trips (Sat-Fri) and have called at 11 months out from Saturday, or even 10 months out. But we were booking a two-bedroom and never had any trouble making just one call. I think it does depend on the kind of villa you are trying to book.

Good luck!

We've done Thanksgiving for the last 5yrs, done MK Wednesday not bad if you plan and we hit MK Friday till 2pm last year. Got my youngest on Space Mtn. numerous times those days. Go early. We do AK T-giving day and always ride EE numerous times.

As for dinner on Thanksgiving, we skip the turkey(the guys think the only turkey worth eating is mine). We've done Hoop De Doo, Raglan Road or hit Wolfgang Puck's Express, then the Cirque show.

Only thing with T-giving is the weather, we've gone from perfect FL weather to freeze warnings over those 5yrs. Packing has been fun.

Skipping it this year to go in early November to hit F&W. Darn I'm going to have to cook T-giving dinner for the 1st time since 2005. :sad2:

It is very crowded, more so mid to end of week, but it is nowhere near Christmas week or the two Easter weeks.

We've been many T-weeks and last year went Christmas week and T-week is now where near the huge crowds of Christmas! Now it will be crowded but not like Christmas!!

We are also thinking of doing the Saturday before to the Saturday afterwards. I have the week before Thanksgiving off and I'm thinking of maybe taking my two littlest ones with me starting the Wednesday before in a studio and then letting my husband come on Saturday with our high schooler. I'd really like to try something other than AKV but with it being Thanksgiving week, I don't know how realistic it is to get a two-bedroom anyplace else at the 7-month mark.

I did animal kingdom last thanksgiving as well and it worked out great!
Also, instead of going Sat-Sat of thanksgiving week and the kids missing 2 days of school, we went tues- tues of thanksgiving week. kids still miss 2 days of school but starting the sunday after turkey day, WDW is a ghost town with no crowds!!

Can't go wrong with a turkey cooking bag! Have TR bring the pies and your all set!:goodvibes

It really depends on what you want to book. In most cases, booking as you suggest is NOT necessary.

I have no problem roasting a bird, it's pretty easy imho. The "holiday production meals" are all about timing.

I might just smoke a turkey breast, want to do something out of the box.

You've never seen TK's side dishes!:scared1:

How about our championship leader? :woohoo:

I was able to book the Weds before Thanksgiving through Sunday at BLT no problem. I called right at the 11 month mark and got a studio AND a 2br Lake View!
