Booking Extra Seats On Flight?

My ds2 and I have flown first class, by accident maybe? Our flight from Bufflao, NY to Chicago-O'hare was delayed so late that we missed our connecting flight to Los Angeles. So as soon as I found out that we would be mising our connection I got on our cell phone and called AMerican Airlines. I told them that I needed to get to LA that night as I was flying with a 2 year old. I then was able to re-book us on another flight with out a problem. I then went and stood in line to get our new boarding passes for our connecting flight.

While I was standing in line people were getting all upset and angry about the delay. I then suggested that they call the airlines directly as they can do more for you then a gate agent. Well it was then my turn to get my new boaring passes and the guy said to me the only problem was that my son and I were in 2 seperate rows. He then gave me my boarding passes. I then saw that we were in first class and I figured it was not a problem. Which it wasn't. The person traded seats with out a problem.

But that was our first trip in first class. I did not need miles to upgrade or anything. In fact I got miles for traveling in first class. I think the person at American felt for me and did their best. As who would want to spend the night in an airport with a 2 year old.

So all in all I have learned to have the airlines number in my cell phone in case of a problem. call them first then wait in line.

Good luck to everyone else..

We have two DS, now they are age 5 and 2 - but we have been flying with them since the first one was 6 months old.

We have flown first class with them to many places and on many different airlines: Delta to WDW, American to NY, Singapore to Hong Kong, Virgin Upper Class to London (which btw has the BEST "infant carrier" already built in - they won't let you bring a car seat), Swiss Air to Romania, Hawaiian to Kona - too many to list.

I have never had anyone mention an age restriction on first class at the time of reservations or upon boarding.

However, you do get alot of irate passengers around when when you fly first class with "littles" so beware and be prepared.

The one complication on foreign carriers is they each have different rules - very different rules - about car seats and/or infant carriers, so you really have to check and check again.

Good luck with your planning -

Continental allows children in first class! In fact, my DB and SIL just got back from a trip and Continental offered them 1st class seats to better accommodate their 1 year old twins!!:D
