Booking extended stays?

As I type this, I think to myself that I really should know the answer to this question but I figure I should ask those who are more knowledgeable about procedures than I am.

I want to book and extended stay (13 nights) for a certain desirable room type at my home resort for a moderately popular time of the year. I believe that that only way that I can really do this is to book the first 7 nights at the 11 month mark of our check-in day. Then I think I have to book the remaining 6 nights at the 11 month mark that would be technically our 8th night. Then I need to have the reservations joined together so that we don't have to move villas. I should be able to do both bookings online but to have the reservations joined - I need to call MS.

Is this right or is their some trick I am missing?

I'm not a member yet, so I'm no expert. But from my reading here, I believe that you have it correct. 2 reservations and then call MS to merge reservations.

I'm sure a resident expert will be along shortly to confirm.

if you called one night earlier, you could effectively "cancel" the last night of your previous reservation and add 7 nights to that same reservation.

Then I need to have the reservations joined together so that we don't have to move villas.

no need for that in this situation. it can be handled as one reservation...no linking needed. i would go ahead and call MS to make the second part of the reservation. i'm not sure how it would work online...

Call and book your first 7 nights, call the next day and add a night to the end. Repeat until you have all your nights.

that means if there were no other rooms left at the resort, no one can call in to book those last 6 nights because you'd need to have a room available to book check-in + 7 nights. (OTOH, if they waited till the next day, they would be competing with everyone else for that 6 night reservation.)

so when they call 6 nights in, they are the only ones with the ability to extend that reservation by 7 nights.

You are correct..no need for day to day calling..as long as you call the day before the original reservation ends--you will be able to extend without issue.

For example, I call on July 1st to book June 1 - 8. I then only have to call on July 7th and can extend all the way up to June 14th. Since my original reservation has that room booked until June 8th no one else can book it until July 8th.

Thanks for the confirmation! I have my plans set for the days that I need to book now. We had thought about switching resorts but we think that we are going to try and stay put this time.
