I want to book 2 dummy FP+ at Epcot on day of arrival. At what time can I make these reservations to ensure they expire before arriving at the park? After the targeted resort check in time? Before resort check in while on plane? Not sure if there is an activation of Magic Bands required at check in.

Why would you want to do this? If it's a trick to get access to the 4th and up FP+, I think it's been confirmed that you have to actually use your FP+, not just schedule and ignore them.

Not true. Either using the FP or waiting for the return window to expire will cancel out the FP. Really all the OP has to do is schedule the first 2 FPs for a time before they arrive at the park. If their flight is due in at 11:00 for instance, I doubt they'd be able to get to Epcot earlier than 2:00, so as long as the first 2 FPs are scheduled to expire before 2:00, those FPs will be canceled by the time they arrive at Epcot. I can't say that I see what the reason for doing this would be, though.

My mistake, looks like I misunderstood the FP+ behavior. I do see reviews stating the ability to have cancelled/missed FP+ count towards the three.

I assume that the motive for this is to be able to schedule more of the popular category one attractions at parks that do tiering (isn't it just DHS?) but maybe there's another clever application out there.

Book 2 long before arrival, Book one that you will actually use at arrival- say 2pm.....THEN you are into your 4th FP....you can book it at 2:15 after you get off your 3rd ride (FP)....and it will allow you access to TIER 1 :) TWICE :)

Yeah, it finally occurred to me that if the 2 dummy FPs are tier 2, and the one that actually gets used is a tier 1, that would then of course allow you to book a second tier 1. (I think I was thinking that the tier 1 attraction has to be scheduled for an earlier time than the tier 2 ones, which meant that you would be wasting a tier 1 FP.) Of course, the problem though is that there may not be any tier 1 FPs left by the time the OP gets there.

Of course, depending on when this trip takes place and how crowded the park is on that day, they may find that the Tier 1 FPs have already been given out for the day. If it's a very busy day, they may end up with choice of Figment or Living with Land once they finally arrive at a kiosk.

No, you don't need to use them. Once the time has expired, you make your fourth FP.

If you want to use FP like this, book Tier 2 rides for early in the morning, long before you'll arrive. Book Soarin or another Tier 1 ride that you will use shortly once you arrive. Once there, you can make your fourth selection.

I'm not quite understanding the value of this. How does it help?

You need to make 3 FP's first up. Only one can be a "good" ride like Soarin and Test Track. If the OP makes them for before she arrives and one they will use (Like Soarin), they can make more afterwards, perhaps Soarin or Test Track.

It can be done, but there is a risk that what you really want is not available by the time you are able to get your "4th" FP. I think in spite of the limitations, I'd rather make sure I got the ones I wanted and was able to use them. Unless the OP is only interested in Tier 1? It's a gamble. Could work great, but might also fail miserably.

and how often are they available during the later part of the day?

As FP+ and these FP+ techniques and workarounds become better known, the more popular attractions' FP+ will become harder to get.

Like a PP said, if you are going at a busy time the FP+ you are likely to get will not be for a tier one attraction. When we were there last week FP for the tier one (Soarin', Test Track) were not available after about 11:00 AM when we tried for them. I talk to some people who said that they got one for very late in the evening on an EMH night. YMMV. Good luck.

Living with the Land is now a Tier 1 attraction :thumbsup2 Who would choose that from Soarin', TT and IllumiNations?

If anything, that speaks volumes about the near desperation the FP+ designers
are attempting to maneuver guests into situations to suit the SYSTEM over
what actually would benefit the GUESTS.

Not enough capacity on more popular rides?
Drag in a "C-grade" clunker to the top tier.
THAT'LL appease the tourists!

Sad.
