Hi All,

I have SSR and AKL as my home resorts (same use years) but over four contracts. We are going to Aulani next year and want to use our points at this non-home resort. Is it possible for us to "combine" all the available points we have to book the whole stay or do we need to break up the nights based on how many points we have available at each home resort. In other words, when you book a non-home resort, do they allow you to take the total number of points you have available regardless of your home resort to make the reservation?

Thanks in advance!

If you truly have four contract (i.e. Member numbers), you would have to use a once a year transfer to transfer points into one contract only. You can only have one transfer in or out each use year. Points from each contract could be used to make a few days' reservations that could be linked. But if you need to borrow points, you won't want to transfer them because you can't borrow transferred points. And you can't transfer borrowed points.

Now if they are not truly different Member numbers, and are merely add ons (same use year, same member number but different suffix numbers - 12345.001, 12345.002, 12345.003, etc), you can combine any way at seven months out to book your resort.

For example, I have most of my points in a Sept UY (two different resorts) and some in a Dec UY (one resort). So we have two member numbers. When I made my reservation for Oct, I only had enough points to get seven nights with my larger contract (again two different resorts). Seven days later, I use points from the other contract to add two more nights to my stay ( I had to borrow some to get those extra two days). Then I e-mailed MS to link them so I wouldn't have to move.

Thanks....you are right, one member number but 4 add-ons. I have 76 available with SSR and 198 with AKL. So at the 7 month mark, since they are all with the same use year, I can use all 274 without needing to do the split?

Yes. Not a problem. And if you need to borrow any to make the reservation, you can do that, too.

Contracts with the same UY and titled the same way are under the same membership, which means that at 11 months, you can use points at their own resorts and at 7 months, use them allay others.

We own two BLT contracts but they are both June UY and therefore, they function as one big one. However my BWV points are a Dec UY so it's a different membership and can't be combined with my BLT points without the transfer.

In your case, you have one membership and therefore, can use all points as one big contract at the 7 month mark.

MS does allow members with multiple membership #s to transfer points between those memberships without using the once-per-Use Year limitation. I had a MS rep offer to do that for me recently and I challenged them since I had already transferred points from one of the memberships. They assured me that as long as the two memberships were with the same owner an internal transfer could be made. They went ahead and did it and made a reservation for me using the combined points. They also told me I could still transfer the remaining points to another member or to myself again.

In my situation, it was for a reservation at 11 months where I didn't have enough points from either membership for the entire stay we wanted - so the internal transfer was offered as a solution. They stated that the same thing could be done for a non-Home reservation made within 7 months.

In the situation posed by the OP above, there is no need for transfer since all points are under the same membership number - but transfers between multiple memberships are allowed without regard to the once-per-year limitation (at least in the past week). The same could be done for a cruise or ABD (assuming none of the points are restricted resale points).

The only transfers I do is between our two different memberships. And everytime I have transferred points I was told that was my one transfer in or out per UY. Even last year, when we left some points in our smaller contract (not many because I had to borrow points for the one last night of our trip and you can't borrow transferred points). The CM told me I would not be able to transfer those few points if I needed to use them.

So I guess it is just who you talk to.

Either the system will allow it or not. With the new DVC system there isn't much a CM can do if it isn't allowed within the system itself. I didn't even ask about doing that, it was offered to me and accomplished even though one membership had already made a transfer for the Use Year.

Maybe you should call back if you are told that again.

I booked Aulani, and used points from 4 different resorts (all under one membership number.) Did it all online. No problem.

Thanks! That is EXACTLY what I am going to do! Now I just need to find a friendly Diser to transfer some extra points I need to complete the entire stay before I book in October. Off to the rent/trade board I go :)
