Booking and Use Year Question.

Hi All,

New DVC member here, we just got back from our welcome home stay at the Riviera and we loved it. Now we want to book another trip in early December 2022 (next year). If I have my math correct that means our 11 month window opens in Nov, 2021. Right? However we are currently out of points. My use year is March, so I technically won't get more points until March 2022. Can I book our Dec 2022 vacation in November, not having any points left currently, or do I have to wait until March 2022 when my points are loaded? Does my question make sense?

If this is answered somewhere else feel free to point me to that thread. Thanks for all the help!

An 11 month window for booking of December 2022 would begin January 2022. You can use your March points to book in January for your December trip. It's not when you book it's when you travel in terms of use year availability.

ETA: Keep in mind the 11 month window is only for your home resort. It is 7 months at other resorts.

it's 11 months before the 1st day you check in for your home resorts. So for Dec 10th, 2022, it would be Jan 10th 2022 If a non home resort, it's 7 months before so for Dec 10th 2022 it would be May 10th 2022

You should see 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 points on your dashboard. Your 3/2022 points are already there. You could even borrow 2023 for this trip (w/50% current limit).

Easiest way for me when I first joined. First, figured the UY your trip will fall...forget calendar year.

When you book, you just need the correct points at the time the trip will happen and not when you call. All trips can be booked using banked points from the UY prior to the trip, UY of the trip, and borrow...currently up to 50% from the UY after the trip.

Since a Dec 2022 UY is in your March 2022 UY, it can be booked with banked 2021 (if you had them), 2022 UY points, and borrowed 2023 points.

You don't "get" points in March. You got all the points for all future years when you bought the contract. You just can't use them yet. Use year has nothing to do with booking; it only determines which points are available for any given reservation.

⚠ Math tricks ahead:
For booking 11 months ahead, I think of the month I want to go and advance a month. So for a Feb trip, I think Feb, book in March.
For 7 months ahead, I think of the number of the month (1=January etc) I want to reserve and then minus 7. September =9. 9-7=2. Book in 2=Feb.

Warning advanced :
If it is a crossover of end of year, say I want to go in Feb =2, I minus 2 (to get to December), then minus 5 for a total of subtracting 7months. 2-2 then 12 -5=7. July.
