Booking a room just for afternoon nap/pool time?

Traveling in February with a friend that has 2 toddlers. Staying offsite but our MK day the park is open until 10pm. I know the kids will need an afternoon nap/ downtime. I was thinking of booking a room at WL so we can nap/swim and travel back to MK at our convenience. The offsite is too far to deal with driving back and forth just for a nap. Has anyone ever done something similar?

That would be one expensive nap! The weather might not cooperate with a pool day.

Seems like a lot of money for a nap or were you going to sleep overnight at WL too?

What if the room isn't ready until 2 or 3 in the afternoon? Would that still work in your plan?

Staying onsite would save on parking fees. Not sure if it would be included for one day or two.

My concern would be that check-in time is officially 3pm. Many times rooms are available before that but what if in this instance it's not?

How far away is your offsite rental?
We've returned to our offsite places off I-drive for swimming (we don't nap) and then returned to MK later before. It really isn't all that bad.

Or, MK has some quieter areas that you could go with the kids and let them nap in strollers.
Tom Sawyer Island
Waiting area for Hall of Presidents
There is an area set up for relaxation (according to a CM we spoke to) behind the Circus tents. It was supposed to be a FP+ kiosk area but they closed it.

it's also assuming the room would be ready for occupancy by the time you want to take that nap. That can't be guaranteed.

I know people who do this in SoCal for Disneyland - they have AP's and use their discount to get a hotel room strictly for the mid afternoon break. I've never talked to anyone who did this in WDW, and I've never done it myself.

We didn't do that exactly, but we stayed offsite during our trip for a week. We booked two additional nights at the WL after our stay offsite. We had planned a pool afternoon and dinner at WCC for the first day at WL. We go and get checked in around noon. Then we hit the pool. Our room wasn't ready until almost 6 making us scramble to get ready for dinner even though it was at that resort. Just saying it may not work out for you. They did give us half off the first night for our troubles though.

If you rent a good stroller, the toddlers may nap in the stroller. Ours did. During naptime, we would use our child swap passes or hit rides she couldn't ride.

Thanks for all the insight from everyone. I can get the room through orbitz for what I consider fairly reasonable (by Disney standards). Also the free parking and magicbands/FP+ are an added bonus.

It will work out fine unless your room is not ready when you want it. I'd suggest that when you check in you tell them that you'd like a room that is ready sooner if they can give you one.

If you are not going to use it to sleep in at night I will gladly meet you there, wouldn't want the bed to go to waste all night :rotfl2:

Have a great time!:cheer2:

Supposedly, people do it all of the time with camping sites. They call them throw away rooms. And they don't use the site, at all. They don't ever show up. They just use the benefits.

So, if the cost isn't prohibitive, and you will actually use the room.

Why not?

This. You can help your chances of getting a room thats ready on arrival by not making any room requests and completing online check-in.

Out of curiosity, have you considered reserving a value room for this same purpose? Pools are just as nice (and more to choose from), its just a bus ride from MK, and would be significantly cheaper....

1%-er alert!!!

Umm no. I wish! This is a visit with my best friend of 30+ years who now lives overseas. Our visits are unfortunately few and far between so I want to spend our time as wisely a spossible. I'd spend extra for that:)

And yesterday my room with no requests etc was ready at 4.

I've never done it, but, if you decide to do it, this is what I would do. I'm assuming you are driving? If so, I would drive to WL and park before MK rope drop and check-in (you can check in as early as 6 am). Your room may or may not be ready. If it's ready, bonus! If not, take the boat to MK and the resort can text you when the room is ready with your room number. Then, when you are ready to leave MK, you can go straight to your room for your nap (your MB will then work to open the room, you won't have to stop at the front desk again). Even if the room isn't ready until 3 pm, you can still use the WL pool all day long.

Sounds like fun!

Just an FYI you might want to call WL and see if their main pool will be done by Feb encase you were looking forward to using that. :beach:
