booking a non-smoking room

wondering if someone could help me out, we are booked in to the santa fe for february 2012...I was told its best to book a non smoking room but wondered how far in advance I should do it..is now a bit early!?

Hmmm, *I had though so too, but when we went to Newport Bay last christmas we were asked if we wanted smoking or non-smoking (as it was we went for non, even tho OH was then a smoker, and they gave us a room with a balcony!) I have to say I was surprised they asked us coz I just presumed all the hotels were nonsmoking.

The usual rule for room requests is contact them a week to 5 days before you go as apparently that's when they do the room allocation.

aaah I am being a bit too early perhaps! will leave it for a bit, thank you mind you if I wasnt going in the winter I would maybe ask for a smoking room if it got me a balcony

yeah I thought all hotels were non smoking until very recently whenI spoke to a friend who had come back from DLP and told me to make sure I requested a non smoking room, here is some linkage about it, apparently

Everytime we go, they ask us at check in if we want a smooking room or a non-smooking room and we have never had any problems with getting a non-smooking room.

Ooh thank you for that, I hadn't realised ..... DH thinks he was asked when he checked in but I'll make sure to remember to always put it in as a request when we book in future (I usually do this), especially since we're staying a few nights in Paris itself next year.

I've never been asked if I wanted a smoking or non smoking room. The only time I have been asked was when I was in the States
