We are a family of five booked together in one stateroom. My aunt has decided to join us and booked her own room. She is willing to pay the price of 2 and just stay by herself. I was thinking of moving one of my kids to her room just on the reservation to save her some money. We done DCL with big family groups before so I know I can add all adults to be able to check kids in/out of clubs and take them on/off the boat and we will do that no matter where the kids end up on the booking. My aunt will be linked to our dining reservations as well. Will I be able to move DD back to our room once onboard? Are there any other issues to consider with this? I've had a child cruise in my parents room previously also but they stayed in there because we didn't have a room for 5 available.

I don't think you will be able to move them onboard. One big consideration I would have is what happens to your child if your aunt has to cancel close to your sailing date? Would they allow you to transfer your child to your room?

I don't think she would be paying the full price of 2 adults, I think it might be around 80% of the cost of 2. Technically your daughter can sleep anywhere but I don't know if she could be moved back to your room by DCL. It would depend if the muster station is full. If your aunt's cabin is in the same muster station, then I suppose it could be possible.

As long as your stateroom will sleep five, why bother adjusting once on board? It is easy and possible to do the move but unless there is a specific reason the child can “be in” the aunts room and sleep in yours. Depending on room location the muster station may be different, so that is a consideration. The check-out privileges and getting off the ship will also need to be assigned appropriately. The child assigned to the aunts room would not have key access to your room but if they are young enough they probably wouldn’t be traveling around without someone else who would have access to the room.

Rooms are very close to each other, wonder if I can confirm muster station for rooms ahead of time? Or do they change by sailing? Are room stewards generally the same for the same area? we are different category, we have ocean view and she is an inside room across the hall.

Muster stations do not usually change, but I have never known them to let people know the stations ahead of time. Even cabins right next door to each other could be at different stations.

Also, keep in mind that your aunt would have to sign paperwork to let your child leave the ship with you. And as others have said, if she has to cancel closer to the cruise date there may not be room in your Muster station to move your kid back into your cabin.

Honestly if she is willing to pay the price for a solo cabin (which you said she is),I would not even bother with trying to play musical people. Keep your kid in your cabin and make it easier on everyone.

We have done this very thing with my MIL and my daughter on three occasions, and it played out two different ways:

1.) they gave my daughter a second "blank" KTTW card so while she was still in Grandma's stateroom "on the books," she was able to freely enter the other stateroom where she actually slept with her siblings;

2.) they actually moved her, "on the books," to the other stateroom at the port. So she only received one KTTW card, properly detailed with the room she was actually sleeping in. I was paying for MIL's stateroom, it was adjacent to ours (same muster station), and the reservations were all linked; I don't know if all those things were critical to making this happen.

YMMV, of course, but I'd bet that you could get one of those two options.

Yes you can do it.
Your child will have to go to the lifeboat drill with your aunt.
The life boat stations are grouped in up and down sections of the ship ( for example cabin 2000, cabin 3000, cabin 4000) not by deck (for example all of deck 2).
I think somewhere on the board there is lifeboat stations listed. Try googling.

I go sole. You pay for 2 except the port fees. So if the fare is $1000 per person I pay $2000 plus port charge for 1.

Have you checked the Muster station list, in case your rooms are on it:

Remember that your DD will cost the price of a second adult instead of a fifth person in your room. If you're aunt is okay moving her and just paying the difference between what your dd costs now and the cost of the second person in the room, then that might work. All of her costs, excursions, purchases and tips will be on your aunt's bill, but you should just be able to attach your credit card to her account. DCL is good at keeping things separate like that.

Also, be sure that in the highly unlikely event of an emergency, your aunt is willing (and able) to take responsibility for your DD. Paperwork will be easy, just a pain. Your DD can still sleep in your room, but will have a card with access to your aunt's room. Make sure (either way) you link your room reservations for dining.

It would depend how many people in a room as they have only so many spots per lif boat.

She would not be saving any money by putting a second person in her room. DCL charges full price for 2 people, even if there is just one. But YOU would save money by not having that extra person in your room. You can put any other person in the room with your aunt. It might be easier all around if you just put either yourself or your spouse with her so that you don't have to deal with the whole child being checked into the kids club thing. I doubt that they would say anything if your spouse(who is registered in the other room) sleeps with you in your room. They are not that big brother.
