Okay in two weeks (7 month window) I will be booking 10-12 rooms @ OKW, all on points (mine) and need to talk out loud about it because I confuse easiely these days... lol

I am using banked, current, and borrowed points to do this. 4 or 5 rooms are definates... 3 or 4 are pretty sures, and 2 or 3 are maybes... all are mixed stuidos, 1 and 2 bedrooms.

In an attempt to increase the odds of any damage done by cancelations I was thinking I should use the banked points up first for the definates, then use the current points for the pretty sures, then start dipping into the borrowed points for the maybes.

[bold]Or[/bold] since the borrowed points will go into the current years time frame (if canceled) would it be better to book the pretty sures with these points so they have no rescritions on them incase they do cancel? Are there resrictions (ie Can I still book DVC, Disney resorts and Concierge Collection etc with them) on points that are borrowed, then the ressie is canceled more than 31 days out? What about 30 days out (I should know this.... I should! LOL)

Thoughts??? THis is way way way confusing, and to add to the fun I have 3 resorts (does booking at another dvc resort have an effect on resrictions if the ressie is canceled?) and 2 use years to figure into it.

Thanks for letting me talk this out.... I hope I made sense!

This past January we had a family reunion of sorts - 26 people - at the BW on our points. We had similiar concerns since we were renting 2 - 2BR villas and a Grand Villa for one week. I think that you should only borrow points for the definates. As you know, once you borrow, the points can not be sent back to their original year. I would use the banked points first, then the current year points and only then I would start to borrow. We had a family member back out late in the game - fortunately someone else stepped in and took their place - but it was certainly upsetting at the time. Good Luck...Planning such an event will definately cause you some anxiety but if it works out , and it likely will, it will be a vaction that you will never forget...Rich

I think I would use borrowed for the pretty sure and current for the maybes. The current could than be banked if the maybes cancelled.

Also, if a maybe becomes a yes and a pretty sure becomes a no, you can ask MS to reallocate the borrowed points to the ressie using current points and than bank the current points,

The other resorts booking makes no difference but be careful on the use years.

Hope this makes sense

Don't use the borrowed for the maybes!! We borrowed points so family members could take a trip in April. We never dreamed family members would cancel on us, but the war started and they got nervous. We ended up with borrowed points that could not be put back and even some in holding.

Anyway, I'm still moving and juggling points around to our trips that had been previously booked, to trips we never meant to take, etc. I'm still not entirely sure we're straightened out. DH and I ended up with a quick trip in April we hadn't planned, we're taking along friends to the Food & Wine Fest we hadn't planned, and I'm going with DS in January to finish burning off the last of them.

Sure, we got some extra trips in which is certainly not bad, but the points were next years which could short us a bit there.

Things happen - make sure you have a Plan B.

I would use the current year for the maybes. If they cancel, you can bank those points (assuming you are within banking guidelines).

These were exactly my thoughts:

I think I would use borrowed for the pretty sure and current for the maybes. The current could than be banked if the maybes cancelled.
