On the back of another thread about staying at a Universal hotel to make use of the FP.

Does any-one know if you can book just one night anywhere other than universal hotels directly? I spoke to my tour operator and he said that they can only book 3 nights minimum.

Also do you get any offers on at any specific time of the year that might help getting the hotel cheaper?

Thats Value season for when you are going.
Book direct, you can then change your rate if it drops between now and when you go, and if you are an AA member here you can watch for Their equivelant Triple A rates

rpbert how do I get the cheaper rate as Ive noticed that the price has dropped.

Phone reservations, get them to check what rates are available i.e TripleA etc, if they do not come back with the one you saw, tell them what rate you seen and, and ask if you can have the new rate applied to your booking, and ask for email confirmation.

Just to say not all rooms are available, only a percentage is available, but should not be a problem. if they dont call back a few mins later and get a different assistant, ask about booking changing to the rate you saw , if they change the rate then its ok, if they do not change it book it for thr rate you seen and just cancel the other booking, and get money refunded.

I saw rates before Christmas , but could not get them to apply the rate , phoned about 4 times over a few days. i eventually got a good deal at PBH, so booked it and cancelled the other at RPR, about a week later i saw an even better deal at RPR was about $40 cheaper than the one i originally wanted, so phoned to see if it was available, and i could get my free upgrade , no problem, so cancelled PBH.

In my experience, and this is borne out by rpbert1's comments, you won't get a decent rate at the Universal resorts until much nearer the time. Like rpbert1, we also tend to book early to secure the room and then keep checking rates right up until the last minute. We've switched to lower rates on several occasions.

It's also worth keeping an eye on deals for Annual Passes. In themselves they can be great value for money compared with regular park tickets and it's usually possible to get discounted rates at the resorts. We've stayed at the various Universal resorts on 7 separate occasions and we've always managed to get an AP discount, although sometimes not until 3 months out.

Thanks for this. I was considering an AP, but it is looking more likely that we will get one now.

Ive had to cancel my original booking as they said that they could not see the rate I had on their system. I explained that it was on HRH own website that the room rate had went down by $45 so my room would be alot cheaper if applying AAA rate. They have refunded my money to CC, does anyone know how long this takes to appaer an CC statement.

Update

I have rebooked at other rate as they have not got any AAA rates now for my dates. Can I wait until I arrive and ask if they have AAA rate and then get this applied to booking. They also offered me club level for the same price as Deluxe Room 2 Queen.

So, did you rebook at the cheaper rate.
Not all rooms are available for AAA discounts, only a percentage of rooms, and if they all go ,then you cannot get the rate change. The agents at reservations, are not great this year, probably the worst in all my time, they just do not seem to know anything.
you cannot apply a rate like AAA or AP at checkin, you need to have this sorted before you go.
Just keep watching , for rates and phone immediatley.

What is average cost to stay for 1 night, I'm using iPad and the website does not load correctly.

I'm going nov 10-24 and curious what the cost for 1 night would be :thumbsup2
