I booked a 7:12 PM flight for our group going to Orland in June, not the 7 AM one. Help! I booked at 1:30 PM today through Delta. I feel so foolish that I didn't catch on. I know I would have to pay the change in fare fee for that leg, but what are my chances of not having to pay to change the actual flight since we just caught it? TIA

call them. If its within 24 of booking they may let you change it with no fee

You also should be able to change it online with no fees since you are within
the 24 hour window. You just have to pay the difference in the prevailing new fare if it went up.

Don't change it. Cancel it and start over. You have till tomorrow night at midnight to cancel the flight on Delta.

If you change it they will charge you the change fee. If you cancel it you'll get all your money back and you can rebook the right flight

i did that last year with my UA flight.

booked on line and when i received the email, i saw i had reversed the airports.
i had the start as mco to ord ..... (i live in the chicago area)

my mind went blank when i reviewed the email.

called UA within the hour and they took care of it.
they changed it to the correct departing airports with no problem.
no charge for this as it was within the 24 hour period.

that was the last time i have ever booked on line without reviewing my itinerary.

i'm sure that delta and other major airlines do the change without penalty within a specific time frame.

but listen to the other posters that have dealt with delta as they would know current policies you need to know.

Let us know how it goes. You should have that 24 hr window to work with.

Call them and explain. I've done the same thing with a different airline in the past and they were very helpful.

I called, and after one dropped call and one person putting me through to group sales by mistake, we got all the seats switched to the early flight. Yes, you have 24 hrs from the time you book to change without a fee on Delta, just the difference in fare. I still don't get how I missed that PM from AM...it was a crazy day but all ended well. And I enjoyed a delicious margarita for dinner to celebrate the pixie dust I got

Glad it all worked out. Thanks for letting us all know how it turned out.

I know everyone likes pixie dust and glittery posts but I must say, in situations like this it is always prudent to call the airline first. No one on any forum can help you in these situations, only the airline itself. What you then can do is post the response the airline gives you and then seek advice on whether it is applicable to you and your situation

Had you caught the mistake...say 23 hours after purchasing and then proceeded to post your question on a forum and wait on responses, the end result would have been less happy. As you would have been over the cancellation period and Delta could/would have charged you the change fee + any applicable fare difference per ticket, unless you get a sympathetic agent.

Another reason to call right away and this is a rarity but it does happen. Atlanta was rocked by severe thunderstorms causing cancellations and mass diversions yesterday. Delta phone lines has been backed up dealing with misplaced passengers from yesterday evening.

Confession. I once booked the family trip to WDW in reverse. Instead of Newark to Orlando, RT, I booked Orlando to Newark, RT. Oops.

I called and they fixed it, I noticed it later the same day.

Glad you caught it in time (also glad for the OP they got to it in time). A friend of mine once booked Edmonton to Seattle and back the opposite way she needed. She noticed months later. There was no pixie dust, and a lot of money going to the airline for that error....

so happy it all worked out for you!!

Isn't it a law they have to do this now? Love how they make it sound as if they are doing you a favor.

It's a bit complicated. The most important (but not the only) considerations:

1) For bookings made in the U.S., airlines must offer either the opportunity to obtain a refund within 24 hours, or an opportunity to hold a fare without payment for 24 hours. But they don't need to do both.

2) The above requirements apply only to bookings made through the airlines directly, not through agents (although some agents may opt to have similar policies).

3) The above requirements apply only if the booking is made more than 7 days before departure.

The site says:
"As part of our Customer Commitment, you can get a refund for most eTickets purchased directly through Delta for travel originating in the United States, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Canada."

Actually Delta started this before it was law and gives you more time than the law requires

The law requires 24 hours, which is what SW pointed out to me when I was three minutes late canceling. Delta give you until midnight of the next day (Eastern time)
