planning a April 3-7 2010 trip to disneyland. booked the quality inn on Katella for $70/night plus tax. around $310 total

can we do better??

our situation:
me and wife with out 4 year old and 18 month old daughters

would like walking distance to the park (anyone know how many minutes from Q.I.)

price is definitely a factor, not big into the nickel and dining for parking/resort fee

help needed please. :)

also wondered if anyone has used ridemax and was it as advertized. thanks again!

on south manchester ave.. the only thing that it is missing is the hot tub.. check that one out also .. it is getting confusing with all of the hotels...

Last April we stayed at the Super 8 on Katella. It was a little over $50/night (before taxes). The parking was free and they also have a free breakfast. The breakfast was nothing fancy. Basically they had 2 kinds of cereal and some doughnuts. I think also juice. It's within walking distance but isn't the closest hotel. I didn't time it but I think it took maybe 15 minutes walking. We had DS in a stroller so that helped move things along.

The 2 biggest issues I had was our clock was broken (right before it broke it displayed the wrong time so we were late getting our dinner that night) and we had also reserved a fridge but when we got there we were told it wasn't available. Not sure why they let you reserve a fridge if they aren't going to actually reserve it.

thanks for the feedback.

we added BW Stovall's and Anaheim plaza to our short list.

anyone stay in these hotels??

My daughter stayed at the Anaheim Plaza and loved it. We usually stay at the BWPPI so she is use to being super close but said the walk was not that much more. Last year we walked down there to see and it was just the next block up and not bad. We are staying there this December as we need bigger rooms. Also, there are some cheaper places to eat on the way from/to the motel.

thanks for the feedback.

We stayed at BW Stovall's a couple of years ago. It wasn't fancy, but it was clean and close to the parks. We'd stay there again.

I stayed in AP many years ago. If you're looking for a cheap, budget type place to stay, it's fine for that. Walking distance, Queen sized beds, large rooms, large pool, jacuzzi, parking costs $4/day...
On this thread, somewhere in it, someone posted some pics of their room at AP. On page 23 and 25 spacermaid has posted her review and photos of Stovalls.
HTH and good luck!

Just re-read your OP. With your kids age, I would definitely try to get a room on Harbor across the street from the crosswalk to DL or within that area. It varies, but most people consider walking distance to be comfortable going as far as Hojos on one end, and Anaheim Plaza on the other end, across the street. On the same side as DL, Candy Cane Inn is considered walking distance by some and they have their own private shuttle. I wouldn't choose any of the harbor hotels/motels based on their breakfast offerings. However, I have heard that he CCI breakfast was decent, not as bad as some of the really bad ones on Harbor. Good luck!

yep, "walking distance" is definitely a big factor in which hotel we choose. i hear stoval's and Quality Inn on Katella is a good 15 minutes away from the message boards, and 10 minutes away when i call their respective front desks.

we will most likely bring a stroller of some sort, would like to use the kids energy walking the park rather than walking to the park :)

appreciate the feedback and hopefully more people chime in :yay:

I just did a quick search for your dates at Hotels.com and Expedia. Anaheim Plaza, Park Vue Inn, Tropicana Inn, Camelot Inn, Fairfield Inn, Best Western Anaheim Inn (doubles only, no Queen beds), Best Western Park Place Inn, Hojos, Desert Inn and Suites all have availability. I think this week is Spring break for a bunch of colleges, so you should decide soon where you want to stay and book. Keep checking for price drops. Cancel any extra reservations before the deadline (usually 72-48 hours ahead of time). AP was showing $89/night and Park Vue Inn, Tropicana, Camelot, Fairfield Inn, BWAI were$119/120, $139 for BWPPI and Hojos and $148 for DI&S. (No Ent rate for your dates so they must be anticipating it to be a busier time.) You'll pay the price for convenience and location unfortunately. You may get better prices by going directly through the individual hotels websites. HTH & good luck!

just booked the Ramada Plaza on Katella for $224 including tax :cool1:

works out to be $50/night.. (the Ramada across from disneyland was $85/night)

keeping an eye open for better deals :)

Did you use the Ramada promotion that another thread talks about? It won't let me post the link.

that price was with the discount. thanks :)

anyone been to this hotel recently??

looks like the main drawbacks are thin walls and no comp breakfast.

was about 50ish on tripadvisor, but i think the older reviews have skewed this rating.. one of the top 30 bargains on the unoficial guide :goodvibes

DH and I stayed at the Ramada Plaza in March 2009. the room was clean, decently maintained. We enjoyed having a fridge in the room and drove to a nearby Safeway for some cereal/milk to have in the mornings.

For us, it was a bit too far of a walk to the gates. It wasn't bad in the morning (and we'd eat our breakfast during the walk), but at night after walking the parks all day, it felt like forever before we got to our rooms. We're both in average shape...not great, not horrible..DH is military and at the time was doing PT 3x/week with a lot of running..and our legs were hurting a LOT at the end of the day on days 2/3, etc.
