Hi all,

We are making our final decision today whether to buy in or not and I tried to pull some future dates at AKV (with my guide calling MS) and almost everything I try is booked. I've looked Oct (not surprised at all!) January and even May. EEK - I'm wondering if we would be better off waiting until the new building is finished. Seems like we'll never be able to visit "home"

Any advice - we keep looking for seven nights and I think DH is going to change his mind if he can't get into AKV next year.

Thanks!

Tracy

The problem right now is all those incentive points. People have to use them in the next 12 months in which will make every DVC resort full. Maybe it would not be so bad if AKV was done, more rooms would be available. But with so many people buying into AKV and receiving the incentives, it will be harder to book until the rest of the resort is finished, not only at AKV, but all DVC properties.

Once the Developer points are gone and the rest of the villas are built it will be fine. Hard to believe it is booked that bad, I got 4 days at Christmas about a month ago.

Points incentives as mentioned and as you said, the fact that the AKV project is not yet complete. I'm sure it'll get better after that. We usually stay at the BCV which is notoriously difficult to get into and we book 2 studios and a 2-bedroom every time and have yet to run into problems ( though we DO use the 11 month window ). And I recently booked 3 nights at AKV at the 7 month window for the end of Feb with no problem. There was lots of availability then they told me.

I've had no problem booking AKV. I'm in the process of switching my AKV reservation at Easter over to using VWL points instead since we're at the 7 month mark. That's for a 2 bedroom villa. I just switched that from a 1 bedroom villa about a month ago.

The only thing I couldn't get at AKV so far was the one night of concierge on Dec 1.

Thank you all for the responses - I'd forgotten about everyone using developer points! I also agree it should be easier once AKL is complete. Hopefully he'll still want to buy in!

Just called MS today and had no trouble booking an 11 night stay in a 1 br value for next July!. My 11 month window opened today.

Thanks AKV707 - So it looks like if I bring out my usual Disney planner self for vacations and book at 11 months in the future (esp since we go at "off" times) we should be ok. DH is stating that he just wants to be able to pick up and go..he tried to remind me that last time we planned our vacation at only seven months out....I then reminded him it was planned 18 months out - just a wee bit of a difference :lmao:

At least from my first experience, 11 months seems to have worked. Having just joined in July, I have not tried any of the resorts at 7. We did book OKW for an October trip. We booked that in early July. We had to wait list a little for a studio but it came through. AKV is a beautiful resort and Kidani is going to be great.

This is so odd. I was at the member party outside Epcot 2 weeks ago. The party on the Savannah thing. I asked a DVC CM about how hard it was to book at 7 months. I have BCV points, I was making conversation. SHE said, rooms are going unbooked so they are renting out more than they need to to non-DVC members. She said, it seems like many DVC members do not realize they can book there yet.

I assume she was just totally misinformed, but it is so weird she went to that extreme degree in her response. She really could have just blah blahed me, on it is impossible to know, hard to say, etc. Instead, she gave me a response that totally surprised me.

I tried to book a studio for our late Oct trip and was told none available. It was the first thing I asked for the day we received our points in early July. WE got a 1 br at OKW and waitlisted studio at OKW. That came throuh, but when it did I asked MS again about an AKV studio and none were available, As I mentioned earlier, I called today at 11 months and got exactly what I wanted.

About 2 weeks ago, I was able to book a Savannah view studio at AKV for a long weekend in May.

Just this week, I booked 5 nights at Vero Beach for my sister during February (week of Valentine's day). This was booked within the 7 month window since my points are at AKV.

So, I would think that you will be able to find something. The only reservation that I had problems with was my October long weekend using developer's points that I booked in the middle of July. For that reservation, the only availability was at OKW.

We booked 5 nights at AKV value studio for June 2008 at 11 mos, day by day with no problems.

Thanks again for all your responses...just got home from Woodfield Mall and signed the dotted line! We are now official owners at AKL   Now i'm off to try and figure out how to put the AKV banner in my signature!

Congratulations and :welcome: home!!! :dance3:

Congratulations and welcome home! And welcome to the AKV family!

I know it was not meant to be funny? But the post about having NO trouble booking day by day at 11 months made me laugh! I should sure HOPE booking day by day at 11 months would not be a problem!

It is those of use who need to book at VAK 7 months that are worried!

I have BCV points.

Pardon my ignorance, but how does booking day by day work? Doesn't that give you multiple reservations or are you just adding the next day?

When you call 11 months from each day of your vacation you tell MS on your initial call you will be calling each day and to leave the reservation open until all your days are booked. this will keep your reservation under one confirmation number.
