Booked a room at 7 months, can't rebook to modify points?

Trying to figure out why a room I booked at 7 months (not one I own at) locked the contract points I used, so I can't modify to use other points. I feel liked I've seen this before too. Is this a known glitch? How do you fix it?
 
Sometimes it happens when it was an 11 month original booking, but seems to also happens sometimes when it’s a brand new booking at 7 months.

No idea why but you need to call MS.
 

Bumping this back up....now trying to modify again and member services says they can't fix it for me without cancelling my reservation and they stated it was policy and they would have to "cancel and rebook". I'm so confused. Trying to free up points from a contract I will let go. They kept telling me about the 7 month window, which makes no sense; I don't even own at this resort.

I’m confused. The reservation was booked 7 months or less, and the contract is locked.

You want to switch them around and MS is telling you they can’t reallocate without a cancel?
 
I’ve been thinking about this. My member services interactions lately have been really hit or miss. Sometimes you get someone incredible (like they normally should be), but I’ve had quite a few duds recently. Makes me wonder if they’ve had some internal turnover.
