I have a completely free weekend, so I would like to read a good book that I can complete before the weekend it out. What would you suggest?

I'd read the 1st Stephenie Meyer book, Twilight, one of the Harry Potter Series, or The Historian.

What kinds of books do you like?

A great short novel I'm reading right now is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, about the German occupation of the Isle of Guernsey during WWII.

For a longer read, Water for Elephants, The 13th Tale, The Secret Life of Bees, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime, or Snow Flower and the Secret Fan were my favorites from the past few years.

I really enjoyed Water for Elephants and the Twilight series. I'm reading Lost Boy, Lost Girl by Peter Straub right now...not sure I would recommend it.

"What are you reading now" thread has hundreds of suggestions.

Anything by WEB Griffen, John Grisham, or check out Amazon's classics and pick one you haven't read before.

A good friend just recommended the Guernsey book. The rest of your list is what I would suggest, except for the couple I haven't read. Since our tastes look so similar, I'm going to go to Amazon. :rotfl: Also, add The Art of Racing in the Rain. Great book!

I keep looking at Racing in the Rain on the list of fiction offerings for my Amazon Kindle. Think I'll go download a sample since you recommend it - a very nice feature of the Kindle!!

I've read three fabulous books in the last couple of weeks.

The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent is about the Salem Witch Trials from the point of view of Martha Carrier's daughter.

The Little Book by Selden Edwards is about a man who somehow time travels back to turn of the century Vienna. The way the author shows how lives intertwine is fascinating.

The 19th Wife by David Ebersoff is partly a murder mystery in a modern day polygamist sect and partly a history of polygamy in the LDS Church and focuses on the story of Ann Eliza Young, the 19th wife of Brigham Young who famously divorced him and wrote a book exposing the polygamist lifestyle in the late 1800's.

I just finished 'The Bone Garden' by Tess Gerritson. I've read some of her other novels and this one was was my favorite by far.

Another vote for The Art of Racing in the Rain. I didn't think I would enjoy it, then I couldn't put it down.

A thousand splendid suns, Dreams of my Russian summers, Moscow 1812, The unbearable lightness of being, Fear of flying, Gravity's rainbow, Water music, Sacred hunger, The war of the end of the world, The war of Don Emmanuel's nether parts...basically those are the ones I am always happy to re-read.
