Does anyone have any expirence with this? I haven't done the math yet, but was wondering how booking a room at a value if I was staying on points would work

It would be 3 adults and a child

two of us have AP's, the other two I was just going to upgrade the tickets the first day

Does Disney know this and can I just tell them I am not staying at the hotel, so no need to drop my paperwork off at the end of my trip? I'm not renting a car, so I am planning on taking ME to the value, check in, then hopn on bus to AK then bus to AK lodge

Thanks for all advice!

You can't use DVC points to book a room at a Value, period. You can use points to book a stay at a Moderate but the point costs for a Moderate are in line with what it costs to stay at a DVC resort (plus you have to pay a $95 booking fee). I suppose if you wanted to use points to stay at a DVC villa and then turn around a book a separate package (including room and park ticket) at a Value (paying cash) during the same period you could get free dining, but I believe, at that point, it would probably be cheaper to just pay for the DDP, especially since you only get the quick service plan...? You certainly can't get free dining while staying on DVC points in any scenario.

opps, I meant I was staying at AKV on points, but was going to book a room at a value to take advantage of free dining

I believe it's been discussed before, and the answer varies depending on the person answering. Some feel it is unethical to book a room you won't use only to get a free promotion. I don't remember, but thought that last year the values only got the CS free dining. Don't quote me on that, but I remember seeing that somewhere. You would have to run the numbers to decide if it's worthwhile. Plus I think even if you have APs, you would still have to buy at least a 1 day pass to get free dining. I think it is worth looking into, especially if you needed passes anyway that would just be upgraded, and if you get the regular dining plan instead of the CS. It is especially worthwhile when the kids are over 10yo since they have to pay full price for the DDP. Good luck.

You should also keep in mind that ME will deliver your luggage to the value resort that matches your reservation. You are not allowed to take luggage on the internal busses. You would need to go back to the value resort after you luggage shows up and then have bell services transfer it to AKV.

Haven't heard of anyone doing this since Disney changed the free dining offer to the QS plan for the values. Doubt the math works anymore.

Maybe they are back to the regular dining plan - I'm sure you will check before making any serious plans.

That's probably why I couldn't find anything on it, I know I had heard of people doing it before.

anyway I would lose money doing it that way

thanks everyone!
