Book package early or wait for discount?

If you get a pin code or a general discount, is it easier (quicker) to call and add the code to your existing reservation, or just to make a new reservation with the code? Seems like people often have to change rooms or resorts when a discount comes out for the code to work anyway so I'm not sure of the benefit to booking early.

I would love to book POFQ but I know the odds are I'll end up at POR with a much better discount. Do you book the POFQ package or just wait and book when you know what resorts will have the deals? I know they go fast though, the reason I'd like to know the easiest way.

Thanks

If you are going whether you get a discount or not, then book your first choice. That way, you are guaranteed to have what you want and f there ends up being no discount to add, you are locked in to the current ticket price (which will be going up soon).

True, booking before ticket increases makes sense. This would actually be a trip for next year though so unfortunately have to go through one more increase if I'm hoping for a package next year.

If we decided to go room only though, the tickets do not expire if we were to buy them now, correct?

I booked in February for a December 3rd to 10th trip. I called Disney about 3 weeks ago. I had a FD pin connected to my name. So I called my TA, she called Disney and now I have free dining. I say book then wait

We had 2 rooms booked at POFQ when my sister got the FD and were able to apply it to our package, did have to upgrade from standard to garden view. Wasn't a GP offer so that probably made it easier for us to stay at FQ. If you get a PIN you might have a chance.

I had my heart set on POFQ but knew there was a strong possibility we might have to move to another resort if FD came out.

Good luck

Is it even possible to stick with or book a standard room with a FD code anymore? Seems like having to upgrade to a more expensive room is becoming the norm. Value of "free dining" is even less if you have to keep paying more for the room. Oh, the creative ways Disney is moving numbers around to lessen the actual discounts.

I called on the night of May 9th, the very first day the FD PINs were out and there were no standard rooms at FQ for our October dates. The cost for the week to change to garden view was ~ $80 total. We saved so much getting FD that the additional $80 was nothing compared to what we saved with FD.

It does seem like there are not many standard rooms available for the discounts at the popular resorts.

As PP said, if you're sure you're going anyway, I would go ahead and book it. I'm in the process of planning my second family trip to the World this summer and I initially booked online and later had the RO discount applied (we're going in Aug when FD is not being offered; better than nothing I guess).

I did this on my first family trip to Disney in 2011; initially booked online and later called to have FD added.

The ONLY drawback that I've experienced with booking early is that if/when discounts or FD come out, you will need to call Disney to have them applied whereas if you wait, you can book with the discount/FD online. I never want to take the chance of not getting the resort I want.

Also, you are correct about discounts/FD not being available on too many standard rooms. I did get luck this summer though and was able to get a discount on a standard view room.

Good luck.
