I am cruising in September but I want to book another cruise for 2017. Just not sure if I should wait and book on board and get the credits or book now in case the fare increases. Has anyone every booked and then cancelled shortly before the cruise to rebook on board? Just need advice. Thanks !

I have done this. I booked as soon as the itineraries came out. Then on my next cruise, I checked what the current pricing is and if I would save money with the 10% discount and the onboard credit and then booked the cruise. After the cruise I let my TA know and she cancelled the previous booking and made sure to grab that stateroom as soon as it became available.

I would definitely recommend booking as soon as possible. If prices go up, you are saving money, if not you have lost nothing. My deposits were low enough that it did not hurt me to have them both on my credit card for a few days.

I agree with the PPs. Book now and then check what the price would be when you sail in September. If you can save money by re-booking the cruise onboard, then do so. For the cruise we took this spring break, I booked on opening day. By the time we sailed on June 2015 cruise, the price of the spring break cruise had risen by 40% so I would have lost money by re-booking. Instead, I booked a placeholder and moved that to a cruise when the itineraries for Spring 2017 opened.

Thanks for the replies - I will do it as suggested. I'm not as fussed about which stateroom I get as I always take the inside ones, I just wanted to make sure that I can book now, and still be able to book again for the same cruise while on board and take the best deal offered.

Book now then rebook onboard if it is a better deal. If you do rebook they can cancel your original reservation and put you in the same stateroom on the rebook.
