Book it. Buy it. BELIEVE it! - TR is started! link posted 8/11

No long ROFR wait? -- No long waitig for documents wait!!! :scared1:
Sounds like a great experience.

Well you pay for the experience no doubt but yes, it was. Amazingly painless. Less than 30 days from deposit to close. 48 hours to get a member number and make a reservation. Had I done resale at the time we were ready to buy, I'd not have had points in time so it would have meant renting, which would have delayed our buying etc. Vero is sold out for our dates now. It was right for us, for a small contract to start.

I had the same feeling when I pulled the trigger on buying DVC. I was also on a high when I got GCV reservations yesterday. Jumping around like a little kid. :cool1:
I bet, I am so excited for you!

Yeah for Vero! :woohoo: There is nothing better than walking from the room to the pool to the beach to the pool and repeat!
A different version of wash, rinse repeat! :rotfl: Works for me though we may have to throw in "refill" as part of the cycle.

I hope you get a great room location and I hope everything works out with Kendall. She is probably getting to that age that Nick is at where he really doesn't want to vacation with us anymore. I think December did him in and he's not too thrilled about June. Oh well - last Disney trip for him. :rotfl:

It's the normal process. At that age neither Jeff or I wanted anything to do with our folks! I bet he will have fun with the nephews, at least for part of it.

P.S. Watch that slide - It's dangerous! :rotfl2:

I will remember that! It looks like fun though.

My family lived near Vero when I was little, and once we moved away, it became our annual family vacation spot. Love the sea turtles and manatees!

I really hope we get to see both, fingers crossed! It will be different for us, I've done the gulf side and we've (just Jeff and I) done the keys and south beach but this will be a bit different from all that I think.

Ouch! I hadn't realized how crummy and painful your surgery was or for how long...but look...viola! Buy DVC and all your pain magically disappears! :lmao: Vero looks stunning. That beach is going to be amazing and one of the great things about beach time is that it is truly relaxing in a way that time at Disney just isn't.

I'm not sure painful is really the right word. It was..odd. Yes there was pain, and in some ways more as the swelling went down as the splints didn't adjust "down" (so you could really feel they were in there) but it was incredibly annoying, frustrating, embarrassing and loud! LOL! It's 10 days until the splints come out and honestly for those 10 days I wanted to hide most of the time. The splints drove me a bit crazy. Tuesday, which was what 6 days post surgery, it got to me for sure. I never thought I'd be obsessed with wanting to blow my nose but seriously, it was all I could think about until the darn splints came out!

Beach time is truly relaxing. Even though Jeff and I went to Hawaii last year, due to being on the big island it wasn't 100% beach time, probably only about 30% at best. I really am looking forward to just stroll out and hit the beach immediately! How relaxing it will be with the 3 kids remains to be seen. 2010 at the pool was never very relaxing, I felt like I was always looking for someone, doing something for someone or needing to leave to do something for someone. I think on that 12 night trip I didn't have more than 30 minutes in a lounger. Ever. I really hope this trip is different and hope thunderstorms are at a minimum.

Now, just hoping things go well with Kendall's mom. :goodvibes

I'll be honest, Jeff worries about that a lot more than I do. Granted, he's the one that has to fight for and demand his time and sometimes chooses his battles in a way I wouldn't but in this case I knew he was ready to go to the mat to make sure we got our weeks. The challenge really is that it's never a done deal until we are on a plane. We might get agreement, or silence for months and then a last minute attempted derailment. I figure I can't worry about what I can't change or control. To me it's a known situation, one we can anticipate to a degree and respond accordingly as needed. To work myself up over it before it happens doesn't change the situation. To try to anticipate how she will react isn't worth the energy as sometimes she does surprise us. It is what it is. I have enough to be stressed about so try to jsut treat this as a constraint I have to work with but not something worth stressing over. For the most part, it works. At least for me. Jeff's a different story.

How did I miss this??? Congrats on DVC so happy for you!!!! Vero is amazing you are so going to love staying there!!!!!!!

Thanks Jen!

You are here now, that's all that matters!

:welcome:

I am VERY excited for Vero!

Yay, you made your first reservation! :cool1: I know I said it before, but I sooo wish that we'd be there at the same time....the E's and James would hit it off, playing in the surf.

Me too, we'd have 3 peas in a pod I think! You guys get out earlier than us plus we have the darn soccer constraint. The 4th is a possibility for 2013 but you'll be taking that year off, right?

I agree with you that the rooms look a little dated. Maybe with low expectations we'll really be wow'd when we walk in?

How funny that you didn't need any more pain killers after buying into DC.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. I find the short, but high, windows interesting in the living room, I wonder why they did that? I suppose if there is no view it makes sense. I'd love to be in one of those beach cottages someday.

Are you guys planning to cook most nights? Right now I think we'll be cooking 4 and dining out only 1 (if I get my way). I figure we will have enough dining "out" on the cruise and I don't need 9 nights of eating out if I can avoid it. I was meal planning in my mind yesterday lol!

I was behind and missed the contest. I would have got a few right :) I totally agree with you on buying direct. We bought resale BEFORE all the restrictions. Hurray for your first call to MS. A tip-if the first person you talk to does not give you the answer you want call back!!!

I have heard that about MS. Fortunately all my calls have been very quick and painless, better than ones to CRO or dining in the past for sure. But it's a limited set of data so far.

For us the advantages of direct make sense. I honestly don't know what I want to do for the next contract, it will obviously depend on incentives, what I'm seeing on the resale market and all of that. I can see where, especially if you already have a contract, resale makes a ton of sense for adding on as you can "afford" to wait through ROFR and all of that. I figure though that I'd want to allow at least 4 months for a resale contract and maybe more if it has a closing date limitation. If you have to start over due to ROFR then it's that much longer so it can't be something you need or want to use quickly. To me, the $$ we'd have spent on ressies now to do resale, versus buying direct actually made it a wash if I looked at that money as a sunk cost so direct made more sense .

I'll have more contests between now and then, you'll have a chance at a slushie credit for sure!

I remember reading about AKV Club level a few pages back. I was able to snag it for 4 nights in Oct by calling in Jan so 9mo in advance. I guess it just depends on time of year etc. We are doing the Sunrise Safari-I wanted to do the special one with dinner at Jiko for Hubby's bday but my younger DD is not old enough. I said-leave em at Simba's Club House but hubby wants to wait until we can all go-nice Daddy :)

You still had home resort advantage though but nice to know it didn't go right at 11 months. I really want to do the sunrise safari someday as well. The nighttime one sounds very cool but if memory serves it's quite a bit more and I'm not sure I'd spend that on the kids. They'd love Jiko but still! VERY nice daddy!

Have not had time for much catching up, but kudos on your first sucessful Member Services booking.

:thumbsup2

Not like I need to be looking :rolleyes1 but can you direct me to where I can learn more about resale DVC?

There are 3 main ones folks use. The one's Mary and Anita mention below and then there is one other although I'm spacing on the name. That is the one I think DIS blocks the name of if you post it though lol. Time Share Store is a DIS sponsor and Fidelity is one that DVC guides have actually mentioned to folks directly so there is some kind of endorsement there but I'm not sure what it is.

For many folks it can be a better option. Some people get (IMHO) a bit too forceful about it, basically trashing people who choose to buy direct, use points for cruises or the other direct advantages but I agree with something Tammie said a bit back, they are your points use them how you wish. At the end of the day, it just has to work for you. Making an informed choice though, is always a good thing!

We bought thru the timeshare store

If memory serves didn't it take 2-3 attempts? I seem to recall you having Disney exercise ROFR twice? I remember being so happy when it went through for you :goodvibes I recall it as being a bit of a reality check for me on how long it could take though.

Check out Fidelity for a huge selection of listings.
http://www.fidelityresales.com/dvc-resales.php

if my link doesn't show up, google fidelity resales dvc

Anita knows more about this than most of the board combined, she's an amazing resource!

Cynthia, you are going to have a great time at Vero, I have a feeling that you might be there at a time to see the sea turtles hatching! We had thought about coming back down then for a few days just to see that happen...

Oh I hope so, that would be so magical!!!!

Random question and a little bit OT. Where are the grills located at Vero? I assume there are some but haven't really looked at it. :rotfl:

At this point it will depend on airfare. I have a feeling with the cost of fuel going up it won't be pretty...

Ugh. Jeff sends me horror stories daily on the cost of jet fuel. The side effect of being married to an aerospace engineer!

Vero looks so beautiful.

Doesn't it? I am SO excited!

Hi Cynthia! :wave2:

I read your intro and the last few posts about your surgery... ouch!

Get well soon; dreams of Disney are therapeutic!

Yes, we'll have to let our points build back up. Then, the plan for 2014 is for just Judy and I to visit Aulani for a week and then stay at GCV for a few days on the way back. 2015 will be the next time (per the plan at the moment) that we'll get back to WDW, plus we'll have another graduate then so somebody will be going somewhere (maybe NYC again) for a getaway.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. I find the short, but high, windows interesting in the living room, I wonder why they did that? I suppose if there is no view it makes sense. I'd love to be in one of those beach cottages someday.

I'm not sure yet, I need to get Judy's take on that. Judy's sister is nearby, so we'll probably go out with them at least once. I'd like to save most of the restaurant budget for WDW, but we'll have to see how that works out. The good thing is, if we buy too many groceries for the time that we're there, we can just take them with us to Kidani. :thumbsup2

What meals are you thinking of making? (That's always a good topic -- good meals for a suite kitchen.)

A different version of wash, rinse repeat! :rotfl: Works for me though we may have to throw in "refill" as part of the cycle.

Uhmmm - That goes without saying! :rotfl: We hit the liquor store right after we checked in. Nothing is super close, but they gave us great directions to all the local stores right at the front desk! There is a nearby walmart for all our shopping needs. We also got "first stay" pins which was nice!

There is also a pizza place within walking distance of the resort. We ordered take out from there one night (pizza, subs, wings - the usual) and it was very good, not to mention convienent!

Wow, Vero looks so nice. We will have to get there some time. I didn't know about the sea turtles and manatees being close by. How neat!

Hope you are doing better after your surgery!

How exciting!!! :hyper:

It is!

But I'm a bit nervous about the Kendall situation...

Yeah, it's not fun. Most of the time we just roll with it as best we can but vacation planning is almost always full of drama. The hardest part is the drama can happen at any time, early in the planning, middle or right before! Bleh.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new artwork for OKW. :goodvibes

SO cute, isn't it! I can't wait to see what items they do wiht the new logo. I'm hoping for a coffee cup and a cute womens tee. Although for vero that would be awfully adorable in a beach towel!

Have not had time for much catching up, but kudos on your first sucessful Member Services booking.

GB! You can lurk anytime my friend but it is so lovely to see you :goodvibes

Thank you, it was exciting. A little weird and different but exciting!

Kathy

:welcome: Kathy! It's so funny, I was just thinking about you the other day as I was checking out a few of the recent blog posts and your exciting 2013 trip news. Wonderful to see you here!!! I'm definitely seeing some improvement, had a good follow up appointment this week.

It was funny, I told the ENT I was still sneezing like a maniac.

Inside or outside?

Inside.

It's dust.

Are you using your nasal spray? I have had an Rx for flonase for years.

No, it never really seems to work

Uh...it might now (post surgery)

DOH!

:rotfl:

Holy cow - Both of you on the same page :faint: Long time no see-

I know! :thumbsup2 I feel special :grouphug:

Ooh! That sounds like a great couples trip. I do have a hard time imagining your crew with a 3 year hiatus from WDW though.

If the resort amenities are nice, I won't mind. I'm going more for the beach and the pool!

ITA!

What meals are you thinking of making? (That's always a good topic -- good meals for a suite kitchen.)

Exactly, I figure we have 4 nights of gluttony on the ship so would prefer to go into it not already overloaded on dining out! We'll probably make pretty basic stuff. Fajita's, grilled fish, ribs, kebabs, maybe burgers for lunch, stuff like that. Simple things, largely on the grill or just tossed in the oven, I've no desire to spend a ton of time inside cooking or doing prep. That said, I may be too wiped to cook on night one (even though we are going to go out for lunch) so it may just be 3 dinners that we cook as we want to go to Squidlips.

How can you not, with a name like that! :rotfl:

Uhmmm - That goes without saying! :rotfl: We hit the liquor store right after we checked in. Nothing is super close, but they gave us great directions to all the local stores right at the front desk! There is a nearby walmart for all our shopping needs. We also got "first stay" pins which was nice!

I have to admit we are VERY anti walmart though I know many people are big fans. I've gotten the names of 3 different stores for food, one which sounds like it's got a great bakery and decent fish so we will probably try that one first. My hope is one major grocery run and that's it. We may or may not stop on the way there, all depends on how tired we are. It may well be pizza the first night and then store the next but want to try Squidlips so that will probably be our one night out and definitely won't be night 1 for that. I do plan on the Sunday brunch (at least right now I do lol). The kids would love first stay pins!

There is also a pizza place within walking distance of the resort. We ordered take out from there one night (pizza, subs, wings - the usual) and it was very good, not to mention convienent!

Glennbo and Judy hitting the West coast!!:cheer2: If it's a weekend, maybe Jim and I can pop over and say hi! Sounds great for you two - are you celebrating a special anniversary? We will be checking Aulani out NEXT WEEK!!!!:woohoo:

Hi Cynthia! Love the new Logos!!! I think I might have to borrow the SSR one for my siggie!!! Great news on booking the cruise and VB!!! I am really wanting to do VB the next time we have points avail. Since you are so good with numbers it makes my head spin, did you look at purchasing one time use points Vs, member cash? I was wondering about that.

Holy cow - Both of you on the same page :faint: Long time no see-
Hey Pat! :wave2: By the time I caught up on your last TR it was over. Which was a bummer because it was a great TR! I see you have a new one going so I will check it out.

I know! :thumbsup2 I feel special :grouphug:
I'm just happy you sent me the PM. Now as to remembering it's on the cruise board.....:rolleyes1....good thing I kept the message.

I'm good at random things, not so good at remembering other, arguably more pertinent things like...Eric's carpool partner has play practice today so I have to pick him up after patrol. I am HORRIBLE at remembering that stuff, my reminder system is a bit ridiculous and still I'll mess up here and there. But I'm really good at random things from nowhere, my brain has an odd storage system, it drives Jeff nuts but I also think makes him think I remember more than I actually do...he thinks it's some weird superpower or soemthing, it's pretty funny actually.

No idea why that one stood out but I think most likely as you are the only one I "knew" who actually had it exercised so it was memorable. Glad it was only 2 tries, not 3...see I remember the general idea/gist, don't always get specifics right.

I am very excited for slushies in Oct, it's so cool how many of us will be there. We need to to a PTR just so we can see everyone's dates and locations I think! Maybe when Mary Ellen gets back from her June trip?

Glennbo and Judy hitting the West coast!!:cheer2: If it's a weekend, maybe Jim and I can pop over and say hi! Sounds great for you two - are you celebrating a special anniversary? We will be checking Aulani out NEXT WEEK!!!!:woohoo:

And maybe they can, oh I dunno, fly through Seattle to get to DL so I can say Hi too!

:thumbsup2

We'll just keep adding days to your their trip.

Nice house hunting ticker!!!!!!!!!!! Have a mai tai in Hawaii for me, pretty please?

One of these!

Ooh, that would be a cute siggie icon! I love it, might have to do that myself, it's a great idea. In this case, purchasing is @ $15 per point. The member cash rate was about $9 per point if you are comparing apples to apples. So for the higher weekend points, since I wanted to save them for possible other uses were better off not being used for this especially since I didn't know if we'd actually be doing that many nights, arriving that early) this really seemed a better way to go, easy to cancel as well.

It was 37 pts for a 1b on a weekend night at Vero. Same 37 points will get you a 1B, savanna view, a 1B at the BC, a 1B at BWV on a weeknight. However the rack rate for those rooms are hugely different. Vero @$415 and the others at $515-680. So...seemed best to hang on to the points as I'd get more bang for them elsewhere be it on this trip or the big 2013 family one. Cash discount is 25% for DVC (if available) so it was a pretty easy call for me.

Hey Pat! :wave2: By the time I caught up on your last TR it was over. Which was a bummer because it was a great TR! I see you have a new one going so I will check it out.

I'm just happy you sent me the PM. Now as to remembering it's on the cruise board.....:rolleyes1....good thing I kept the message.

I know, I really considered putting it on the regular board for that exact reason but since getting any actual WDW into the trip was not on Jeff's agenda at all, I figured I better leave it on the cruise forum. I have to subscribe to threads otherwise I'll forget where they are. I have the reverse problem though, it means I miss some new ones when they start.

I'm just glad you are here! :goodvibes

And on that note...Friday is the day Jeff gets to drive Eric to school. Did I remind him that it was a patrol day, which means they leave about 15 min earlier and have to pick up another child.

Nope, totally spaced, happy that it was Friday and my one day not to drive.

Did Eric remember? Not until they were in the car.

OOPS!

I have to admit we are VERY anti walmart though I know many people are big fans. I do plan on the Sunday brunch (at least right now I do lol). The kids would love first stay pins!

We actually stopped there for the explicit purpose of buying one sand chair. One day we did rent the loungers and umbrella and that was heaven. Expensive, but worth it because they were the most comfortable chairs ever.

I've heard good things about it if it's the same one I'm thinking of (Orchid Island I think?)

I can't recall the name, but its the only pizza place or anything near the resort (or at least it was). Go out of the property, make a right and head to the corner. We bought a ton for takeout one night and then had built in lunch the next day on our porch overlooking the ocean. :goodvibes

Thanks! Doing just fine :goodvibes I am very very excited for a beach vacation, if we get to see turtles and/or manatees, HUGE bonus!

If you are interested in renting bikes you can also ask about a path that is located about a mile from the resort. It's along a small water way and marina and has shade part of the way. They'll know what you are talking about. Denny and I ran there one morning.
