book hotel then don't use?

i seem to have noticed that travel city offer holidays i.e with cheap hotel that seems to cost less than flight only, is it possible to book these than don't use we have dvc points just trying to work out a cheap option for last two weeks in aug rather than sept or oct when we usually go dd1 will be doing her gsces next year. any advice will be good

Debby, I'd check the small pirint e.g. Virgin Holidays will charge £30 per person for 7 nights or more if one of the services is not used, and it's is likely that other companies also do so.

Here is Virgin Holiday's statement:


"INDEPENDENT ITINERARY CHANGE:

We provide package holidays. We do NOT sell flights only. Because we have commitments to our hotels, car hire companies and other suppliers we have decided to make a flat charge of £30 per person for any period of seven nights or more spent on holiday not using any of our services." .

I did this alst year with Funway holidays.I had to book 3 nights accomodation to get the flight price,so booked the cheapest hotel I could.I then just didn't use the hotel at all.

Oh wow Shirley that's interesting is this new as I've never been charged for not having the car even though I booked a fly-drive??

But if you have paid Virgin in advance for your car hire/accomdation that you then don't use.You have used their services??

Just wondering about the hightened security side of things.

i.e. if you have an official booking at a hotel for 4 nights and you don't turn up, what would the hotel do with the security aspect of things - do they have to report your non appearance to someone? If so what would happen next time you go through immigration ?

I know the last time we went, it was stressed that you had to have an address on your immigration card for the first night (at least).

Or am I too paranoid

We have toyed with this idea also.

There are some good priced packages out there but with hotels that Im not sure off. So we thought of just booking them and then moving to another hotel of our choice when there.

However these deals are for 14 nights and we only want 7 nights which are twice the price.....go figure

Cant help with the immigration advice perhaps it would be ok to leave a forwarding address at the hotel you're booked into.

If something good comes up for 7 nights I'd take it then move hotel!

Hi Sam - no it isn't new. It's always been in their brochure on the "Not So Small" print page. I noticed it years ago when we were looking at our options for a three week trip, and I have just checked my latest brochure and there it is.

I booked flydrive last year and didn't use the car but never got charged any moeny for that. I just didn't pick the car up
