Boo to You...and Food & Wine Too! - October 26 to November 2, 2012 Updated Post #282

Bret - Lovely shots! :goodvibes

I'm having to clean my screen here from those gorgeous food pictures. Great job.
That event looks like a LOT of fun! And nice that you got a picture of you, your DB and Chef Irvine. Fantastic. :thumbsup2

Hope you had a great time at Cape Canaveral. The PftS looks awesome and so cool you got to meet Robert Irvine. He is such a great guy!

Great pictures! I especially like the one of you, your DB and Chef Irvine.

Thanks for sharing :goodvibes

What a wonderful event the Party for the Senses appears to be! Those desserts (the last 2 photos before your picture with Robert Irvine) look ridiculous (and I mean that in the good way, not in the bad way!)! I would have gone to the event just for the desserts!

I'm not a fine dining type of girl at all - I have no interest in eating rabbit, caviar powder or truffled cheese - but I always love looking at photos of fine dining meals because they are plated so nicely, and made to look so elegant and artistic.

Considering that you said once before (when I was trying to convince you in my TR to try some peppermint ice cream) that you don't like to try a lot of new foods, I think you are doing a great job of sampling a wide variety of things while at WDW!

That's so great that you and your DB met Robert Irvine. He seems like a very nice, positive, uplifting man - while still being tough, of course.

I almost forgot to say that I love the Leave a Legacy wall/exhibit at EPCOT. So the photo of you and your DB that was used for that was taken in 2001?

I also love the pumpkin/harvest/Halloween display in The Land.

I haven't been on lately since I have been having a great time at WDW. I will get to you shortly on a quick update from tonight. We just got back from EPCOT after watching Illuminations. But first I will get to the posts that were left behind the last few days.

Great pictures of everything! Those were nice looking aprons. There is so many things I don't know about WDW. And meeting Robert Irvine? How cool is that? I would have been over the moon!!!!! Looks like your having an excellent time, and the food looks good!

Thank you Usnuz. The merchandise at the F&WF were very nice. I did pick some up during the trip. There were a lot of things that I don't know that well at WDW and were glad to do some of these different things during the trip like the Party for the Senses and other things that I haven't done yet. I was ecstatic that I read that Robert Irvine was at PftS. I got to meet my favorite Food Network star at WDW which was even more special. I am having a great time and it is almost over. I can't believe that this trip is going by so fast.

Thank you PiO.

Glad that you are enjoying the pictures from PftS. All of those food, drinks and desserts are very nice. I was glad that my uncle made reservation at PftS at EPCOT. I was excited to meet Robert Irvine that day. This was the highlight of the trip of going to PftS eating great food and meeting him that night.

Thank you TK. My DB and I were excited to meet him that night. Even though he didn't do any of the cooking at his station, he had his chefs from his restaurant cooking that day including one of his sous chefs that work with him on Dinner Impossible.

Glad you are enjoying the pictures. Have you checked out my flickr site lately and see all these pictures from the trip?

All the food, drinks and dessert at Party for the Senses were amazing and good. We were really lucky to go to that event that night and try all these different food from the WDW restaurants and other restaurants from around the world.

Just like you Sherry that I am not a fancy type person to eat very high class food at these events. It was really amazing to go to that event and try all these food. When we were at the PftS that night, we saw a lot of people all dressed up very nicely while we were dressed as casual during the event. Luckily, there were some other people that were dressed just like us that night and glad that we didn't feel like low class people at a very nice event.

I mostly don't like to try different food, but I had to try some other things and maybe that I will like it when I go to a different restaurant of something like that. I will remember to try the peppermint ice cream when I go the DLR in a couple of weeks. I can't believe this trip is coming to a end in a couple of days until it will be time for my DL trip with my DA. She is looking forward to go to DL in a couple of weeks to see BVS and CL all decorated for the Holiday season.

It was great to meet Robert Irvine at PftS. I thought that he was only going to be at a cooking seminar on Friday the 26th just when we got there that night. Luckily he was at the PftS and it made the highlight of the trip. He is a very nice, positive, and uplifting guy. We know that he is a very tough person on his shows.

Yup, my DB and I got a "Leave a Legacy" image at EPCOT back in 2001. Ever since 2001, we have stopped at the Leave a Legacy and see our picture. I have shown a lot of friends and family members of that picture and it is great to see it every time I come to EPCOT.

I knew that you would like the Pumpkin display at "The Land". I was a little surprise to see Halloween decorations at "The Land".

During these last few days that I was away from my TR. On Monday, our group went to a airboat ride on the swamp around a town called Christmas which was 15 miles from the Kennedy Space Center. We got to go to the KSC that day and we had a great time. Later that day, my uncle's and aunt went to St. Augustine while my DB, aunt and I head on back to Orlando to rest up. Later that night, I went to the MK to see Wishes fireworks. I did enjoying watching Wishes, but I didn't like my spot where I watched the show since the MK was quite busy that day. I will get more of that in my posts on Monday the 29th.

On Tuesday we went to the MK. We got to do a lot of rides and shows that day, but the main highlight during the day at the MK was that we got to go inside the New Fantasyland and eat at "Be Our Guest" restaurant and got to ride the Little Mermaid ride which is the same as DCA version. The only difference is the outside of the building. We also got to see Gaston's town that day as well as seeing Belle's house on the outside. We didn't go inside since my group didn't want to go inside.

Later that night we went back to the MK for MNSSHP. Just like MVMCP, the party was almost the same except with the treat stations that there were quite a lot of long queues. We got to see "Mickey's Boo-to-You" Halloween parade just right around the Hall of Presidents. Thank you TK for the spot since it was a great spot to see the parade that night. We also got to see Happy HalloWishes fireworks and it was even better than I thought. We only went to a few treat stations that night since they were too interested in the candy.

Today, we went back to EPCOT to go around the World Showcase to eat at the food stands. Since Saturday was quite busy, we didn't get to go in the stands and wait that long. This time, it was easy to go to the stand and get some different food. We went to a lot of different stands today and were great. I will have them uploaded in a couple of days when I get back from WDW. We got to see Illuminations tonight which was amazing like always.

Tomorrow we will be heading on over to Universal Studios since my group wants to see Wizardy World of Harry Potter. So I will talk to you all later.

Here are some pictures from DHS on Sunday plus Monday and Tuesday.

Nice pictures! Glad you are having a good time. The Be Our Guest restaurant looks nice. I'm hoping that we can have lunch there on our January/February trip. I can't wait to check out the new Fantasyland!

I hope you enjoy your last couple days and we'll catch up with you when you get back!

I'm finally caught up, you're pics have been great and it sounds like you're having an awesome time. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Just got back home from Orlando and I have a lot to do these next few days until I plan on going back to DL in a couple of weeks.

I have a lot of stuff that I am waiting to tell you and what has happened.

Glad you got here safely and looking forward to Wednesday.

A small update from my trip this past week. When we were leaving WDW on Friday the 2nd, my aunt who came with my DB, aunt, uncles and me is considering wanting to go back to WDW next year. This time, she wants to bring her BF and her daughter who is 2 years old to WDW for the first time. This is the same mom and daughter that I have mention on my DL thread that we are going in January 12-14, 2013. My aunt was so amazed with WDW and being the tour guide that she wants to bring them to WDW next year. I thought that they should wait in the future since the DD2 is going to DL for the first time in her life and would need some time in order to know what WDW is like. But she told me that she wants to go in the future to WDW next year.

We haven't talked about dates so far since we got back home and it is going to be a busy month. I have basketball season coming up and I will be heading back to DL in a couple of weeks for my Holiday trip with my DA that goes with me to DL.

I was kind of shock at first to hear that my aunt wants to go back to WDW in a short time and bring her BF and daughter to WDW. Right now this is only talk and it might be a reality in a few months maybe until early next year.

This past trip was really fun and exciting since I got to take my aunt's and uncle's to WDW for the first time since the 70s and 80s. Talk about a long time since they have been to WDW. We got to try a lot of different food, drinks and desserts at the Food and Wine Festival. I had a great time at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party which was even more busier than the MVMCP during the Holiday season.

We went to Universal Orlando on Thursday our last full day in Orlando. My aunt, DB and I went to Islands of Adventure just to see the Wizardy World of Harry Potter while my other uncle's and aunt went straight to Universal Studios since there were more things to ride and watch than IoA. They didn't want to see WWoHP that much. They were amazed with Universal Orlando, but they preferred WDW over Universal. My DB, aunt and I spent most of our time at IoA to see WWoHP. We got to drink butterbeer which is something my aunt and DB want to try. We only spent about 3 hours in the park that day which is not a lot. We had lunch at Emeril's which was very nice. I will get to that on my latest update from Universal Orlando. Later that day, five of us went to Cirque de Soleil while my DB and aunt stayed at the room to rest up. It has been awhile since I have been to Cirque de Soleil and we all enjoyed it during our last full day.

On Friday which is our last day in Orlando, we spent the day at the Orlando Outlet stores to do last second shopping. I will have more from that day on the updates just like the other dates.

This was a fine trip where we did a lot of different things at the parks and around Florida. The highlight of the trip was the Party for the Senses which I have never tried before. I got to try a lot of great food, drinks and desserts. But the main thing about it is that I got to meet my favorite chef on the Food Network Robert Irvine. Everyone in my group enjoyed the PftS that night, but they also enjoyed the F&WF in EPCOT where we got to try a lot of different things. Got to go in the New Fantasyland before it was open to the public. There is a lot to cover from this trip in these next few weeks.

Bret - I'm looking forward to the more detailed report but that news about your family wanting to head back to WDW with you is fantastic. Good for you!

And....if you did enjoy this year, I hope you'll consider early October NEXT year. :thumbsup2

I can't wait to hear and see the rest of your update!

I was kind of surprise to hear from my aunt that she wants to come back to Orlando in a year so she can show her BF and her DD2 WDW. But this is all talks right now and it could happen sometimes early next year.

I was considering talking to them to come during the DISer trip in October, but they are interested in going during the Holiday season which they are mostly interested. But we will wait and see what they want to do. It would be nice to go during the DISer meet with the other DISers.

I can't wait to hear and see the rest of your update!

Thank you Angela. The first update from Friday the 26th will be up shortly.

Day 1 – October 26, 2012

On that Friday morning the 26th of October we started to get ready for our trip to WDW. This was going to be an excited trip since this will be the first time I will be going during the Halloween season and the Food and Wine Festival at EPCOT. So there are a lot of things to look forward to this trip. Around 3:30am Pacific Time, I got up that day and was about to head on over to Sacramento International Airport with my other family relatives. My dad was nice to take my DB, my aunt and I to the airport. It does make a big difference when he takes us to the airport so we won’t have to park a car at the airport. We had to make a few stops to pick up my DB and my aunt that day. The other party members, Uncle M, S, and R and Aunt H will meet us at the airport that morning.

The three of us got to the airport around 4:00am that morning and was flying on United Airlines. We had to make one stop to Denver and travel straight to Orlando. Mostly in the past when we go to WDW, we leave first thing in the morning from Sacramento so we can make it to Orlando later during at night. Sometimes we got there around 6pm and one time we got in Orlando around midnight once. Even though we got really early in the morning, it does make a difference of time to leave early from the West coast to the east coast.

We left at Sacramento around 5:35am and heading on over to Denver as our first stop. Mostly when we go to Orlando, we stop at Denver, LA, or Chicago on our way since there are no straight flights to Orlando from Sacramento. We stopped at Denver and had to wait for three hours since our flight does not leave at 12pm in Denver. So we just relaxed at Denver until it was time to board our plane.

At 12pm, we left Denver and straight to Orlando. It took about 4 ½ hours to get from Denver to Orlando. We were on the same plane heading straight to Orlando. Most of my party members were sleeping on the plane while I was reading the tips of taking fireworks trails so I can be ready when we see some of the nighttime shows at WDW.

We landed at Orlando around 6pm eastern time which was really fast and we head on over to the baggage claim to get our bags. It was a little cloudy that day in Orlando and I have checked on the weather that it has the potential to rain that night. We were hoping that it wouldn’t rain.

Just leaving the plane and into the terminal

Riding the monorail to the baggage claim

When we got to the baggage claim, we got all of our bags and head on over to get our rental cars. My other relatives had to go to Budget while we went to Enterprise. We got a 2013 Lincoln MKS car. Mostly I don’t drive luxury cars on my trips since they cost extra. But my aunt is a luxury car driver and doesn’t want to drive in the lower class. It was a nice to drive something nice, but I also have to be careful since it was a nice car.

We left around 7:00pm and on our way to a Vietnamese restaurant in Orlando called “Lac Viet Bistro”. It is north or Orlando and it was not even close to WDW. But my uncle’s and aunt want to eat there when we got to Orlando and we had no problem eating there that night. When we left the airport, it started to rain that night and it was coming down a little. Not pouring where it was hard to see. It took about half an hour to get to the restaurant from the airport since we were going down the streets and not the freeway.

It was around 7:30pm when we got to Lac Viet Bistro restaurant. It was a small restaurant and not a big one where it carried a lot of people. It was nice to have Vietnamese food before the trip since my aunt and uncle’s like that kind of food. The food was really nice that night, but it was not that special. My aunt and uncle’s are big time food people so they will have a great time when we go to EPCOT at the Food and Wine Festival.

After dinner, we head on straight to the Sheraton Vistana Resort. But before we head on over to the Sheraton Vistana Resort we had to stop and get some supplies like food and amenities since the rooms don’t provide some of these things like soap, paper towels, etc. We stopped at the Wal Mart close to the Sheraton right on SR-535.

We got to the resort around 10pm and we went straight to the Welcome Center to pick up our keys to our room. Since we have two rooms, I requested that our rooms are right next to each other. When we got our room keys we were staying in the Lakes area. The last trip in 2011, we stayed at Cascades area and this time we were in another area of the property on the other side. This was close to the restaurants while the other area has the Market Place as you can see from the picture.

SheratonVistanaSiteMap.jpg

We head on over to the room and everyone were all impressed with the room. The room looks like the same when I stayed in 2010 with my DA. Last year it was different since the complex was a 6 story building. Our building this year was a three story. We were staying on the 2nd floor, I asked earlier if there were any ground floors available, but there weren’t any and this was the best one. I could have asked for one with an elevator where this building that we were staying didn’t have any. But everyone didn’t have a problem with it and this will be our place for our trip.

Just like the other times I have stayed at the Sheraton Vistana Resort it had a master bedroom, two double bedroom, living room, a kitchen, washer & dryer, plus the two bathroom which was a master and a standard bathroom. We gave the master bedroom to my aunt while my DB and I were sharing the double bedroom. She was happy that she got the big bed.

At first before my aunt and DB decided to come close to the last second, I was going to have the room all to myself. It would have been weird to have the room to myself since I thought that my DB and his GF V were coming. Since V mom was diagnose with colon cancer, she decided to stay in Sacramento and care for her. My DB was going to do the same thing and don’t come with us on the trip since the only reason he was willing to go was for his GF to see Orlando. But he changed his mind at the last second and don’t waste the airline ticket. My aunt which is my dad’s sister wasn’t originally going on the trip, but she had some free time and hasn’t been to Orlando in over 30 years. So this was a great opportunity for her to have a nice relaxation trip and keep us company. It turned out really great to have her come with us during the trip.

Here are some pictures from the room that my aunt and DB were staying.

After we got settled in the room, we went to bed around midnight. It took us quite a while to go to bed since we are changing times from a 3 hour difference on the east coast from the west coast. Our first day will be at EPCOT since my uncle’s, aunt’s and my DB are looking forward to the most since this is one of the things that they wanted to do in Orlando.

It was a long day of transferring flights and getting supplies. But it was a good to have those products during the trip since we were hungry or thirsty while we were at the rooms resting up in the middle of the day. There were a few times during the trip that we didn’t get a lot of rest at the room like an hour break.

The room is very nice and comfortable. :goodvibes Looking forward to hearing more about your trip.

TK

Is the Sheraton Vistana terribly expensive? Your room - which, as I said a while back, looks more like a little house or apartment - is so nice and spacious. Now that's the sort of place I would not mind staying if I were going to stay off-property. If I had to stay somewhere that was not a Disney hotel or Disney villa while at WDW or DLR, I would want to stay somewhere like the Sheraton Vistana that feels like a home and not a cramped room.

The room is very nice and comfortable. They have everything except for the soap. I have stayed at the Sheraton Vistana the last three years and will continue to go back to the resort when I go back to WDW. I do enjoy the space and value of the room.

I used my timeshare points on the rooms. But for the price for a week when I ordered another room for my aunt and uncle's, the price for a week was $700. That was a great deal of getting a small house/apartment for an entire week. I really enjoying staying at the Sheraton Vistana these last three years since the extra rooms does make a difference where we don't have to cram everything in one room at a hotel. I would easily stayed at the Sheraton Vistana again during a future trip to WDW.

Day 2 – October 27, 2012 Part 1

The next day was Saturday at 7am Eastern time and this day we are all planning on going to Epcot. This is the park that my aunts and uncles are looking forward to the most. I was looking forward to Epcot during the Food and Wine Festival. My uncles are big food and wine drinkers and I knew that they will like this event a lot. Not only we are going to Epcot for the F&WF we are also going back to Epcot that night for the Party for the Senses event at Epcot. My uncles wanted to try this event at Epcot where we can try a lot of different food and drinks from each of these different restaurant chefs from WDW and around the world. This was going to be a fun day at Epcot to try a lot of new things that day.

We got early that morning since my aunt who is staying with my DB and I is a breakfast person and she made breakfast for all three of us. Mostly we don't cook breakfast on our Orlando trip, but since we have the kitchen, she wants to have some homemade breakfast at the room instead of going to a restaurant in the morning. We had eggs, bacon, sausage and French toast along with orange juice. It wasn't a special breakfast it it was nice to have something to start with that morning.

After we finished breakfast and clean up the kitchen, we all got dressed and started to head on over to Epcot that morning. We didn't leave the Sheraton Vistana Resort around 8:45am since I want to try to get them to the park early before the rope drop. But we left a little late and I knew that we needed to get there early so we can get Fastpasses for Soarin. I knew that Soarin regular queue is going to be at least half an hour or longer in the morning. So we needed to get to Epcot early to get the FP. We also have to go to Guest Relations to get a Guest Assistant Card for my uncle M and aunt H since they can't stand up too long. Another idea was to get them a wheelchair or ECV so they won't have to walk at the parks.

We took both cars to Epcot since we had 7 people all together going to the Epcot that morning. That morning was really nice where it wasn't raining but cloudy that morning. Since i have the Premier Ap for both the DLR and WDW, we didn't have to pay for the parking.

We got to Epcot at 9am which was not a bad time to get to the park when it opened. I had concerned about coming on Saturday to Epcot since I checked touring plans crowd level a few days ago before the trip that day and it was the park to avoid that day. But with the PftS that day, that was the park that we picked for that day.

8128757540_f60639105c_c.jpg

When we first entered the park, we head on over to the right hand side and see our Leave a Legacy picture on the stone. Every time we come to Epcot, we have to see our picture of me and my DB at Leave a Legacy. I have got this back in 2001 and has been here since. They were all surprised to see our picture from Leave a Legacy at Epcot. They did see a lot of those images around the front entrance of Epcot.
8128764400_1ddc3d8d95_c.jpg

After looking at our picture, we split up our group since uncle R will take my aunt, aunt H, uncle M and my to to the wheelchair stand so we can get uncle m and aunt h a wheelchair and DVc. They will also take them to guest relations to get them a GAC card. Uncle S and I will head on over to "The Land" to get FPs for Soarin.

The park was not that full that morning where there were quite a number of people heading on over to "The Land" for Soarin.

When we were inside "The Land", we saw some pumpkins right by the Garden Grill. It was really nice to see some halloween decorations in Epcot during the trip.

When we got to the bottom and head on over to Soarin, the stand-by wait time was already at 30 minutes. But the two of us headed on over to FP area to get FPs for our group. Our return time for that morning was at 10:40am to 11:40am. This was was over an hour different to return for Soarin.

We head on back towards the guest relations to meet up with our other party members. When we met up with the rest of our party members around GR, we head on the left hand side and head on towards to Mission Space. My uncles wanted to ride Mission Space while the rest of us head on over to the Festival Center where they have the seminars and other info about the F&WF.

We head on over to the building and we saw all these different stands, booths and shops during the F&WF. We didn't stay in there too long since we have to meet up with my uncles at Mission Space.

The Chocolate Experience: From Bean to the Bar. We didn't get to see it since we were just walking by it. Later on during the trip trip we did get to go inside and see the area. But that will be on another post.

We left the Festival Center and now head on back to Mission Space. But when we got there, they were still on the ride so we waited until they showed up out of Mission Space.

After we have all met up, we head on the other side of Future World and head on over to The Seas with Nemo and Friends. I wanted to get them as many rides as I can during the trip since this might be their last time in Florida. This ride is almost similar to the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage without the submarines at DL. The first time I have seen this ride after it was changed from the Seas to TSwN&F a few years ago, I originally liked the old ride of going through the aquarium. It is still a fine ride today.

The wait time was 10 minutes, but it almost took Bout 5 minutes to go through the long queue of TSwN&F. It took us quite some time since we had a wheelchair and ECV for my aunt and uncle. When we got to the clam mobiles we went indifferent ones. I went by myself since is as planning on taking pictures from the ride. I used my DSLR camera and try to get some nice pictures in the dark. I learned a lot of taking pictures at night from PiO from my last trip

After we got off the ride, we we t around the area looking at all the different fish. We also took some time to rest up awhile.

That is it for this update and I will have more later on from Epcot.
