Cast of characters: Bonnie (me!) 42 and resident vacation planner!
DH Shane 45 - driver and happy doing anything!
DD Shayna 17 - Disney nut and wishes she was American instead of Canadian!
DS Ben 14 - wise guy who rolls with just about everything!
DS Jarrett 12 - used to be the easy one to travel with but now has very little patience with crowds and anything that doesn't include swimming!
Day 6: March 14
Well, today was the day my DD Shayna had been waiting for -Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom on a SUNDAY! Ug!
We got off to a great start and hit the park early. I would have to say that DD's attitude this morning could be likened to Commando Nicki - let's GO GO GO!
To again explain my family dynamic - DD Shayna is a Disney nut and wants to live there! She will be 18 at the end of the month and is the light of my life! She has yet to give us a speck of trouble, does well in school and follows the rules. I think she's a little high strung and a little 'high maintenance' but her enthusiasm for all things American makes me smile
(Side note: my MIL is getting her Canadian citizenship on the 22nd after being here 50 years - go figure - and DD's response to this announcement was "Why would she want to go do a thing like that? Can I trade mine for hers?"
Anyway, back to Magic Kingdom. DD's becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of enthusiasm that both DS's are showing to being 'in the magic place'. We immediately went to Mickey's Philharmagic and LOVED it! What a great place to start the day.
Did Peter Pan and a few other attractions, but again, the park was packed and with the heat it was becoming increasingly unbearable for DS Jarrett to stand. As I mentioned before, he's happy when he's in the water so I quickly realized that I was going to have to resort to plan B. I suggested that DH take the two boys and go to a waterpark for the afternoon and DD and I would stay at Magic Kingdom. Some hesitation on the DSs' part because they were worried that their Dad might not be able to handle getting them there and back again in one piece! After some reassurance we headed our separate ways for the second time this trip.
All I can say is that in my DD's opinion (mine too) this was the best time of the trip! We fastpassed Philharmagic again, checked out the shops, and enjoyed the parade while eating ice cream. No rushing, no whining, no complaining. It was magical! We chatted with a very nice woman while waiting for the parade and expressed our appreciation for all the wonderful things about the States. I think she appreciated that and was a little surprised at my DD's fanatical attitude. We enjoyed all the smells, sounds, and views of the park in a way we haven't in a long time. I could see that she was drinking in every aspect of being there and I knew we were going to have a hard time leaving...
Had a relaxing rock in the rocking chairs on the porch at the front of the park while waiting for the boys to return around 5:30 p.m. Thankfully, they had a wonderful afternoon and came back refreshed and ready to continue hitting the park. Found a great spot for Wishes and it was wonderful. Watched Spectromagic at 10 p.m. and then headed out. It was a perfect day and as all Disney nuts know, it was incredibly difficult to leave. DD Shayna and I were teary and upset and just wanted time to stop. The ride back to Pop was quiet and sad...
