Both of these are churning out there, with Charley possibly hitting Tampa on Friday morning....So that makes me question...is anyone out there getting prepped...especially you FL people...

We live just outside of Orlando in the path, but are not that worried yet. We are going out to get water/batteries/propane and the like, just in case we lose power for a day or two, But it doesn't look like it is going to strengthen that much that it would affect us in the Center that bad (WE will keep watching though)

If I lived in Tampa, I would be more concerned, and Lakeland is closer to the coast than us as well, so I may be a little more worried there.

I wouldn't say we're worried but we are taking precautions. We'll pick up anything in the yard that could become a projectile, stock up on canned goods, get our camp stove and lanterns ready. I try not to let these things scare me because I don't want my kids to be afraid. I do want them to have respect for these storms. Everyone please be careful.

Luckily I am off from work that day....I live in a mobile home too:eek: so we all know the stories of them....My co-workers think we will get some pretty nasty thunderstorms mostly...We shall see....But this will be my first major storm since moving to FL...normally where I lived in NJ, when they hit, they were pretty weak by that time.

Actually, from where I live it looks like Charley might end up affecting me instead of Bonnie. :( I've been watching the Tropical Update on the Weather Channel every chance I get, and am almost always checking the hurricane-related websites to find out Charley's latest position. I am really concerned about him. From the latest forcast track, it looks like Charley might impact the S. FL area at some point on Friday, and that's exactly where I live!!!!! Oh, no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :scared1: :sad2: :worried: :faint: :earseek:

Nope. Remember that hurricane scare we had in 1999? Thanks to Channel 9 news, it freaked everyone out...it was headed right for us, but at literally the last minute it turned away. I think that was the first time Disney ever shut the parks down.

No, I wait till the LAST MINUTE like everyone else does.:o ::yes::

Charley was just upgraded to a Hurricane.

We're watching and waiting. Hoping it doesn't effect flights on Saturday morning because we're suppose to leave then to take DS#2 to college.

Stepharoonie!- I think the hurricane in '99 you are referring to is Floyd. It was the one with the mass evacuation. It really was bad here in Eastern North Carolina with that one. Massive flooding, whole towns were under water.

Yes I remeber Floyd...I was in NJ getting ready to move to FL....I watched it come in from the beach in WIldwood NJ...it was awesome.

I think "Charlie" should have been named "Clyde".:jester:

Seriously though, all of you in the area...stay safe!

Im in Southeastern Florida and Im going out tonight after choir to get some staples in case we lose power which happens easily here. Im not gonna go nuts, and Im not panicking, but Im also not gonna get stuck in the rush of people if/when the hurricane warnings go up. Did that with Andrew....will never do it again.

Charley is suppose to exit the state at Daytona Beach. Which means we get high winds and rain. We haven't had a hurricane here in Jacksonville for 40 years. Hurricane Dora was the last hurricane to hit us.

I'm not sure whether to be worried or not. Being new in Florida, I'm listening to the news and they make it sound like it could be a big deal even in Orlando. I don't see anyone in my neighborhood doing anything. We have batteries, water and food to last for several days. I'm a bit concerned about the possibility of 60 mph sustained winds. We got 60 mph winds during storms in Missouri, but they only lasted a few minutes. I live in an area where there is a huge amount of constuction. There is literally stuff everywhere. As I look out my window, I can see a large bucket of tar sitting on top of the roof of the house across the street. There are boards all over the place. Should I be concerned about these things smashing into my house? I wouldn't have a clue as to what to do about it. I hope it turns away. They told DD today in school that they might get out early on Thursday and not have school on Friday because of the storm.

Yeah, I'm getting ready for a major rain day here. Bonnie may or may not affect us but Charlie is still tracking to come directly over me. I have my beenie weenies, deviled ham, tuna, water...though hopefully I can pop some popcorn Friday and enjoy a rainy day off from work! :teeth: Best wishes for everyone!

We're in Sarasota and DH is kind of concerned. We're not duct taping or plywooding but we've got supplies and we're going to remove any possible projectiles from the yard tomorrow. I think by tomorrow morning we'll have a much much better idea of what to expect.

I just spoke to my folks. They were at the Winn Dixie getting water and canned food. This will be their first hurricane, since moving to Florida.

Just off the phone w/my dad in Naples, and he said they were asked to do voluntary evacuation, and to pick up your "re-entry stickers" to allow you back into town if any major damage has occured. Schools are closed tomorrow/pending further conditions. I was a bit surprised as I thought they were far enough south to escape it, but looks like the surge/flooding is a major concern. My mom has had some scary health issues over this last week, so she would rather not tavel..but they are going up to my brothers in Cape Coral to be on the safe side. Yes, I think the fact that ther are 2 pretty sizeable storms back-to-back, would be cause for concern. Good luck to all, and I hope that the phrase "downgraded" is being used soon.
