Bonine in Canada???

I don't think you can buy Bonine in Canada. At least I haven't found it. What is similar that you can buy here? Any other sea sickness remedies recommended that you can purchase in Canada? Thinking of the MotionEze, but I think that has to be ordered from the U.S.

From what I remember, the only thing that was similar was called Bonamine. But I don't think that's still available. The active ingredient in Bonine is Meclozine. Maybe speak to a pharmacist and see if there is anything like that available? I know there's something called Gravol (sp?) but the active ingredient is the same as Dramamine and does make people sleepy.

It is called something else. I forget the brand name they use but it is the same ingredient as in Dramamine I think. Read it on a dis thread a while back.

This should be available OTC in Canada.

this is ginger gravol. it is non drowsy and is specific to what you will need. we always take a box with us. my sister uses it when she has to take certain meds that upset her stomach.

Just a quick question about motion sickness in general if you guys don't mind. I never been on a ship but have never had problems with motion sickness in a car or on a boat so would I really have to worry about maybe getting sick on the Wonder?

On our Canadian Wonder cruise, I did not need any type of sea sickness meds.

And I'm a person who needs to wear seabands when I'm a passenger in a car.

Another reason why I loved our Vancouver sailing a couple of years ago.

This is a very hard thing to determine for someone else and before you sail! For years, nothing bothered my stomach--not small boats, ferries, planes, trains, automobiles BUT I always got nauseous the first few nights on a big ship! That always seemed illogical to me. I think all you can do is be prepared for seasickness just in case!

As I've gotten older (nearing 40), I can no longer do spinning rides (think teacups!) or rides that go back and forth swinging (like swings!). Trains (to include subways) bother me, too, but in my early cruising days (late teens, early 20s and late 20s) ONLY the big ships bothered me.

We were on the Fantasy in May of last year and there were a lot of people wearing a patch behind the ear for motion sickness. Most of them bought it before getting on the ship. One person said that they bought it somewhere on the ship when they needed it (I don't know where).

My family has never needed things for motion sickness and my suggestion is check at any pharmacies close to the port of departure. If you cannot find anything in Canada then try just across the boarder at any of the American pharmacies.

Most likely you'll have no problem. Sea sickness can sometimes hit people who have no other motion sickness problems. Likewise, some who have other motion sickness problems, don't get sea sick.

I'd bring along something. Our first cruise that we took the rest of the family on (here comes the Mom in me) I brought, ginger tablets, ginger ale, Bonine, Sea Bands, and Dramamine. No one needed any of it.

Generally, I'd say try going without. On a short cruise this could be risky, because, if you're going to have problems, it does take at least a day before anything you take may take effect. But on a longer cruise (say 5 nights or more), you may be sick at the beginning, but you'll still have a few days that you will be feeling fine once you start taking something.

I'm not sure that you can get the patch on the ship. Maybe from the doctor, but you certainly can't just buy it OTC.

DH used the patch on our first cruise because he's highly susceptible to motion sickness of any type. There are some serious side effects from using the patch, and I'd suggest talking it over with your doctor as to whether this would be appropriate.

I would strongly suggest getting Gravol Non-drowsy. I think it has ginger in it. Widely available in Canada and very effective. You can also get regular Gravol which is great for the evenings as it makes you drowsy. We just did Alaska from Vancouver on the Wonder. Our stateroom was on deck 8 so we felt a bit of motion, I took the non-drowsy Gravol on sea days, and didnt have any issues.
