Hi!

My family has plans to try Boma during our next trip. I really want to try this restaurant, and have the oppurtunity to look around AKL a bit.

However............I printed the food pod offering menu someone had posted here, and now I am a bit worried. I don't have a clue what some of these food even are!!
We are your pretty basic non-adventuresome food family. Meat ,veggies, and sometimes mexican or chinese thrown in to spice things up a bit, are our staples.

Are the foods really"way out there" ? Or is it more like a change up of spices that makes Boma unique?

Help.
Chris

Why not try it for breakfast? They have a great variety. The basic breakfast foods with plenty of African dishes too. The frunch is a very good juice drink that they serve.
I loved the breakfast pizza and the meats are delicious. I have never done lunch or dinner so I can't comment but I don't think you will be disappointed for breakfast.

We ate there in January for our anniversary. We found the food to be a little too different for us (and we are good "try-ers"!). The service was top notch and the restaurant is beautiful (as is AKL), but we won't be back. We all ended up eating the macaroni and meatballs from the kids pod, which was great. Now, the desserts were excellent - so if you wanted to just go for dessert, that may be a better bet.

Good luck!

Too, much for me also, but my DSis loved the food...All I could taste was curry. But the service ect...was wonderful.

My DH and I loved the food at Boma. We had made a deal before we ate that we were not going to look at the name or what was in it. That we were just going to try it. (Now, I know this wouldn't work if someone had allergies.) We liked most of everything and before hand my DH said he doesn't like coconut and he doesn't like (well you get the point). He was a trouper and tried almost everything.

All in all it was a good dinner. We will go back. We especially liked the African wine selection. :D

If you don't like trying new things at restaurants, I would skip the dinner at Boma. Like you, we are non-adventure-some when it comes to food, but during our last stay at AKL decided to eat at Boma one night. Well, long story short, we should have stayed with what we knew and liked. I know some people love the food at Boma, but it just didn't hit the spot with us. On the other hand, it is a buffet and if you really want to try it ( we really wanted to try it ), there are enough choices on the buffet I'm sure you won't go away hungry. Good luck!

We like all different types of food and love to try new things. We also like the flavoring of curry and the other spices found in many African dishes. However we just do not find the food at Boma to be that good. We love Jiko but Boma just doesn't do a thing for us.

I went to Boma for dinner and it ws EXCELLENT! I am not the kind of person who likes to try different kinds of foods so I was scared to go but it was soooo good, and the dessert was to die for! I would definitely say you should just try it out, and hopefully you'll end up enjoying it as much as I did! It doesn't hurt to try new things. :teeth: ;)

My husband is a picky eater and doesn't like to try new things. He agreed to eat at Boma for my birthday last year and surprise, he loved it and can't wait to go back. On the African dishes there were signs telling what they were. There were plenty of "regular" foods also and the deserts were wonderful. His only complaint was that some of the dishes were too spicy, but as he only took a tiny amount of each thing at first this wasn't much of a problem. DS and I love to try new things and we both loved it also. My sister and I hope to stay at AKL in August for her first trip to Disney and I can't wait to eat there again. We had a last minute PS and a long wait, but it was our first night at Disney and we sat in the beautiful lobby and relaxes. Several families with young children were finding the long wait a problem buy my DS is 21 so I just sat back and enjoyed watching all the kids that were enjoying themselves at Disney.

WOW !!

Thankyou for all the terrific replies !! You have all given me alot to think about ;-)
Thanks for the help!

TooBoys - Do you like Prime Rib? Soups? Chicken fingers? Mac & Cheese? These were all on the menu the two times we ate there in Nov. Along with 3 different hummus ,fish, salads, veggies, African specialties ( one called Bobitie sp? I tried and really enjoyed it was kind of like shepards pie with raisins) The soups were awesome there are 5 different kinds the nights we ate there among the choices were a smoked tomato (awesome) potato chowder (very good) and a butternut squash (tasted like pumpkin pie - in fact I almost got sick I ate sooo much of this - It was addictive), The deserts were unbelievable. The minature white chocolate pineapple cHeesecakes , zebra domes, cookies, brownies, bread pudding and crunchy chocolate mousse were all top notch, I think next time I'm sticking to soup and dessert. If since you home school it might be a good opportunity to have the boys experience a different culture and their cuisine. Maybe you could go to the firepit after dinner and listen to the African guides tell stories from their homelands.

I went with my pretty unadventurous mother, and she loved it -- we even went back for breakfast the next morning! There are signs that will tell you the basic ingredients of unfamiliar dishes "chicken, rice, carrots, spice 1, spice 2" etc. There is American fare, so you can always have something "plain" to eat.

But I'd recommend taking a spoonful of various dishes -- I bet you'll go back up for a larger portion of one or two of them!

Without a doubt our most favorite restaurant in all of Disney.

We go early and stay late. The soups are fantastic to begin with. And the salads are unique and very good. But the entrees are the best.

My advice is to give yourself plenty of time to enjoy it all. IE, dont go and expect to leave within an hour. Too many things to sample and try.
