On our third day we will be going to AK for the day then have an ADR at AKL for 6:10 pm on Oct. 3. I would love to look around the resort first. Do you think it will be dark by then? Will we still see some animals. I am really intrigued by this resort, but will never be able to afford it. Please tell me what I can expect here?? Thanks so much! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

HI we LOVED boma's it had a great fun atmosphere and we really enjoyed the food and selection, boy did we eat our money's worth :-)
we were able to see the animals using night vision goggles that the cast have and will let you borrow, or at least they did in january. a great experience all round. Enjoy

That is really really cool! We love eating at all the AKL eateries...Jiko is our favorite TS, Boma our favorite buffet and Mara our favorite CS. I never thought of night vision goggles!!!

Neat!

What time of the year? In the winter it's dark by then. This time of year there's still twilight at 9:00pm.

Hopefully it WILL be dark for you, we went out after our Jiko dinner. We had the same experience and saw more animals this way than when it was light. It looked like they put more food out and there were quite a few probably because of this and the fact it was cooler.

Go before dinner. We went a few years ago in October and had 6:00ish reservations. We could see the animals fine before dinner, by after dinner it was dark.

Night vision goggles are cool, but they don't have them out if the weather is bad - and if you have smaller kids along, they are really frustrating.

We are planning dinner at Boma after a day at AK in December. I figured probably around 6:00p. We were hoping to view the animals also, but I thought I had read somewhere that there was some type of storytelling/bonfire thing where night goggles were available. Anybody know if this is scheduled at a certain time. Should we make dinner ADR later?

I'm going to have to take the kids after we eat dinner, if it's dark to see if we can use night vision goggles. The kids would get a kick out of this.

Thanks so much for all the replies! Now I am really excited. Our ADR is for 6:10, one minute after sunset so we will plan to get there a bit before to see the animals and then go out again after dinner. I've never used night vision goggles - it sounds cool - like something out of a spy novel!!

Woo hoo   I just made an ADR for Jiko at 6 on 9/30 and I was wondering about taking my DD to see the animals at the resort. Thanks for the info.

After you eat, go back outside to the viewing area. We ran into a storyteller one evening and I'm sure your kids would also enjoy this.

It will not be dark if you go before your dinner. It won't be getting dark until after 6:30pm in Octobber. It stays light for at least 30 minutes after Sunset here. Florida stays lighter much later than up North, especially Canada, I can guess. My family lives in New England, and especially in the fall/winter, it stays light about an hour later here in Fla. than in NH.

P.S. The Savannah is lit up in the evenings after Dark, so sometimes you can see the animals in the dark as well.
