Boma

Hello there,

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, so here goes. After reading so many raving reviews, I was thinking of scheduling a visit to Boma on my Animal Kingdom day in my upcoming vacation. I will not be staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, but someplace else in the World. Is Boma within walking distance to the AK, or do I have to take the bus from the AK to get there? And, which one do you like better, breakfast or dinner?

Any suggestions?

You better take the bus. I've never heard of anyone walking there, not to say you can't. I just don't know if anyone does. It seems like it would be a long walk. And I'm not sure they serve lunch there. I've had dinner though and enjoyed it. I've never had the breakfast. Good luck!

I was told that there are no sidewalks or paths at all and you'd be basically walking along freeway type roads. Walking has been firmly discouraged. You should probably plan on taking the bus!

dont waste your time at BOMA...we had ps and STILL waited 2 hrs.
Breakfast was GREAT but dinner was Nasty...really. I'm not one to really expect much as far as food when we go to disney (being in the "business" most of my life) but BOMA was really really dreadfull. Save yourself the time and go somewhere else...Crystal palace is a favorite of mine....

We've eaten dinner at Boma's twice and really enjoyed it. I think this is one of those restaurants where you should try it yourself before deciding whether you'll like it. We've have PS's and never waited more than a few minutes to be seated.

If you take the bus from Animal Kingdom, it is a very short trip, and the bus let's you off near the lobby entrance. Boma's is downstairs from the lobby.

We have eaten at Boma twice on our last trip. One for dinner while we were staying at AKL. The second time was breakfast after we changed over to SOG. The food was so good that we drove to AKL for breakfast. That should say it all.

The staff is very friendly, we never had to wait longer then a few minutes with or without PS's. But we were there during October. Perhaps during busier times you may have await. We are going for almost two weeks in Sept/Oct and we will certainly be having at least two meals at Boma.

Take the bus, walking is not possible from Animal Kingdom, and it is not far.

WE LOVED BOMA!!!!!!! Even the stuff we tried and didn't like would not warrant saying it was "nasty". It was such a cool place and dining experience! I would recommend it in a heart beat! By DH is very picky when it comes to food and he tried a lot of new things there and found stuff he really liked!!!!!

Go with an empty stomach!!!!

I love Boma! I've eaten there twice (most recently Thursday night). I had PS and got seated before my time was even due! I guess it is all about timing. I think you should really try the place out for yourself, not every single person is going to love the same things.
I have never tried breakfast there, but I'm thinking of adding that to the list for the next trip (7 months away)

I have eaten breakfast and dinner there many times. Boma is one of our favorite restaurants at WDW, or anywhere else for that matter.

For a first visit, I would suggest dinner because dinner at Boma is unlike dinner anywhere else -- lots of unique items you won't find anywhere else at WDW.

They do also have some unique items at breakfast, but for the most part you'll be getting a delicious, but familiar, buffet breakfast. I do appreciate their cooked-to-order egg station -- they make delicious omelets -- and with eggs cooked to order, they are nice and hot. And I love the Frunch, the special fruit juice combo you can have at breakfast.

I've always had a dinner PS when we've eaten there. Longest wait was maybe 15-20 minutes, but usually the wait was minimal -- 5 minutes or less but we have been there only in early May and late Jan/early Feb when WDW is not too crowded. For breakfast, I've made a PS if we eat early. We generally are late risers or are having a later breakfast after using the fitness center and so we often don't get there until 10am or so, in which case we have always managed to get in for breakfast with little to no wait.

To confirm what others have said, you cannot walk from AK to AKL but the bus ride is probably less than 5 minutes so once you're on the bus, it will be a very short trip!

We ate at Bomas 3 times during our stay at AKL this past August. We LOVED it! Not only was it a great dining experience, but the food was wonderful. They have a great variety of items to choose from and the folks working behind each area were very willing to help by describing what was in the food dishes we were not familiar with. We have 2 daughters who are fussy eaters and they also loved Bomas. Needless to say we had 4 very full tummys when we left. Can't wait to go back on our trip in June!!!

We make it a point to eat at Boma for breakfast at least twice during every stay. We also make sure that the last day we are there, we eat at Boma so it's the last thing we have in our memory. The food is good, the Frunch is absolutely amazing.

I want to try it for dinner, but since we love it so much for breakfast, it's hard to not go other places too. The longest we've ever waited at breakfast was about 30-35 minutes. That was with a PS and a party of 6 adults on December 26th. So I'd say their service is pretty good. You can't get a much busier time than that.

OK, you need a dissenting opinion. I also read all of the glowing reports and decided to try it. Am I sorry I did? Not really, but it was not fantastic. The CMs at BOMA were wonderful. Didn't have to wait, although it wasn't really busy when we were there. The food on the other hand was OK. A lot of the traditional buffet type items and a few specialties. (and quite pricey) It was interesting to try a few of the stranger things, but I just didn't find the quality to be all that great. It's Disney dining. The food just isn't tremendous. I always feel that people are way too complimentary about Disney dining. (Almost any decent restaurant at home is better and a lot less expensive.)

They will make you made to order omelets, but be prepared to wait. I was alone at the table for about 20 minutes while my husband waited for his omelet. That was a lot of fun. (We did see Rick Bayless from The Food Network, Iron Chef, etc. eating there - not sure what he thought.)
Certainly try it for yourself. I do hope you like it.

I have tried Boma for both breakfast and dinner. We LOVE breakfast there. There is enough familiar stuff and a few interesting items that we found that to be a good mix.

Dinner seemed to be more "interesting" stuff, while it all had good flavor, it was spicy to me. (I am a major spice "WUUUUUSSSSSS"). The few things that were not spicy at dinner were delicious!!

Thanks for all your replies. I welcome both good and bad. That way I can keep a realistic expectation. I will definitely try Boma (already made a PS for breakfast), and then make up my own mind of how good or bad it is. I will be going at the end of May, so I will be back with my report.
