we are staying at akl in may. does anyone have opinions on boma? we are thinknig of trying it, but are hesitant because we are not sure we will like african food....

Try it. I wasn't wild about going there the first time, now I can't wait until we eat there next week...
I'm not very adventurous when it comes to food.
I went with the thought, what's the worse that can happen? I could spend $25.00 to eat off the kids buffet (hot dogs & mac 'n cheese). I found that I like most everything I tried. One thing that made it easier is the staff is VERY helpful about answering any questions you might have.

Make sure you save room for desert too.:Pinkbounc

BOMA is now our favorite WDW dining choice...for breakfast and dinner!!!!!!

We have had dinner there 5 times and loved it each time! Go in with an open mind, an empty stomach and you will love it!

My kids and I love Boma! We plan to eat tehre on our next trip several times, we're also staying at the AKL.

But, if you're finicky, I'd say don't bother. They do have the "imposed" section with mac & cheese and fried chicken (like Ponderosa's buffet), but you can get that for far less than you'll pay at Boma.

we had a group of 7, including my 9 picky niece. We all loved Boma. It is on our must do list now.

There are 3 picky eaters in my family(I'm the only adventurous one) and they love it. There are enough "plain" items to satisfy most picky people. The soups are delicious.

Maybe I should have said: "hard core, die hard finicky". It is great that your little kids can handle different tastes, you've done a great job. But I have met *adults* that can't handle tasting different meals or else! Now, that is the kind of finicky taste I was talking about...

Absolutely love Boma here!

My idea of adventurous is getting my Big Mac with pickles, but I loved Boma's! We went at Christmas, and never even got to the meat section, I was so overwhelmed by the fruit, vegies, and desserts!! You can't help but love this buffet--I tried the ginger-carrot soup, on a dare, and I was hooked. Please consider giving Boma's a try! I can't wait to go back, in only 4 more weeks!

Boma is the BOMB!!!

One suggestion is to walk the length of the buffet to see what is available before you start digging in. The buffet is so huge that you don't want to fill up on a few things and miss out on some great dishes. I take small servings and go back about 3 times! Save room for the Zebra Domes and other desserts. . .;) :bounce:

Never been, but because of these boards I have a PS tomorrow night. Can't wait to try it.

I also have a family of picky eaters - but we all LOVE Boma's!!! After our first visit, we were hooked!!! And, as the above posters mentioned, be sure to save room for the Zebra Domes!!
They are great! My favorite is the BBQ ribs!

We all look forward to our night at BOMA's each visit! Also - look around in the gift shop! There's some really neat stuff there!

Enjoy!!!

I'm not a big fan of buffets, but I loved Boma. My only shameful admission is that I filled up so much on the fabulous soups that I was only able to try a very tiny bit of everything else. I guess I'll just need to go back.

Go ahead and try it! All the offerings are amazing, but if you are less adventurous you'll probably do well with the prime rib, some of the salads, and a couple of the soups. Having said that, don't be afraid to try new things. My two favorites dishes that I got seconds of were things I have never tried before: "Pap"- a white cornmeal and something else I can't remember the name of (and doesn't seem to be listed on the WDWIG menu-- kind of a ground lamb casserole. Yum, yum, yum.

Hi,

Pap is a hot dessert dish. Most times it is white of colour. Its also known in my country (The Netherlands, Europe). At this time it isn't very populair here. Its hard to find it in a restaurant on the menu. Most people eat this at home. It also is an easy meal for young kids, since they are just to young for real food like a piece of meat.
Personaly I'm not a big fan of Pap, most times older people love it.

Marcel.

Love, love, LOVE Boma!! My meat-lovin' dh is still raving about (of all things) the mango vinaigrette and apple vinaigrette salad dressings (the soups, too)! Now, if the salad dressings are that good, imagine how wonderful the rest is!

Okay, don't flame me. I know we are the minority here, but we just didn't care for Boma's. It was okay to try once, but we won't be returning. Even DH who usually gets really into food from different cultures and all said he wasn't interesting in going back. Our kids didn't eat hardly anything (DS2 & 8 at the time). My boys both tried all of the different soups and didn't find 1 they liked. I didn't find much to my liking either. Nothing was bad....just not to our liking. I was expecting more of a spicy taste, not sweet. Everything seemed very sweet to me. I was highly disappointed.

I did have a fabulous drink there which made me feel wonderful!!;)

Boma is fabulous.

We ate there for the first time last November, with two picky eaters and two very adventurous eaters. We were all thrilled with the selection. My husband still says, "Remember how good that was...?"

My only complaint is that I didn't get to try everything because I was too full!

It was a little crazy with everyone walking back and forth to the buffet at the height of the dinner rush, but of course, that's Disney World, now isn't it?

I'd try it if I were you.

Daisy;)

Boma - YES!!!!!!!

We just tried Boma for the first time at the beginning of Feb. and loved it. I loved sampling all the different foods and found many that I really liked. DD (2yo) enjoyed Boma also. She really loved sampling the three different hummus selections and flatbreads. DH had a fun time trying all the foods too and we all enjoyed tasting those desserts!!!! YUM! :)
