Has anyone been turned away from here without a reservation (for breakfast or dinner)?

We're staying at AKL and already have one reservation for Boma. However, we were hoping to try a few walkups. I know nothing is guaranteed (hence the reservation to ensure we get in on at least one occasion) but I was hoping to get an idea of people's experiences getting seated without reservations.

Thanks. :goodvibes

Pardon me if my math is off (highly likely :lmao:) but it appears from your ticker that you will be there during free dining. So even if crowds are lower, the TS restaurants will be very full. ADRs are always strongly recommended during this time, and are practically essential for the more popular places. And Boma is popular. Not saying you cant get a walkup table. Just saying you must be prepared for the greater likelihood of being turned away.

We were 25 minutes late to Boma one evening for our ADR and we had to wait 2 hours standby then to get a table. We were seated after 10pm.

I'm not sure they would have seated us at all if we hadn't had that ADR. This was in May, no free dining.

We've never been turned away (we always make ADRs for table-service places), but I have seen a walk-up turned away once at Boma. That being said, I guess it still might be worth a try since you're staying at AKL and won't have to travel far out of your way to do so.

I have seen walkups turned away before. I don't think I've ever tried to walk in there, although I walk into Jiko relatively often.

I'm actually a little surprised at all the 'turn aways' and long waits - duly noted, and so I will be making at least one breakfast reservation there and a second dinner reservation. I wonder if the timing of the walkup attempt makes any difference to the success/failure rate of getting a table. :scratchin

Thanks all!

Breakfast may not be an issue but I would be surprised if you could get a walk up for dinner.

You can always go to the front desk concierge when you arrive to see if there are any times available for possible days of your choosing. If there isn't anything available for the entire stay, I'd say the chances of a walk up might be slim to none.
