Hi guys...
A friend of ours recommended that we try Boma...
Were planning on eating there this trip. We have never ate their before and my DH is a lil freaked out over the fact that it is alot of food he has never ate before. I am all for trying new things so makes no difference to me. My BIL & SIL are at WDW right now and they ate their the other night and really disliked it.
So, I come to you all...my loyal DIS fanatics, and ask...Can you give me some of your pro's and con's that I can show him.

TIA

My dh loves to eat all sorts of 'different' foods..loves sauces and gravies, anything different. Me? Not so much. I'm a real meat and potatoes girl. But, having said this...we both love Boma. Even my terribly picky 13 y/o dd puts Boma in her favorite restaurants at WDW list.
You will find plenty of 'normal' type foods there. In fact, they do have a carving station where I have always been able to get some nice roast beef.
You guys should be fine!!

We went to Boma for the first time in January and usually my DH is a meat & potatoes kind of guy, but we really enjoyed trying all the different dishes! Some were very unusual and had flavors mixed together we never would have thought of!! There is a wide variety of selections and I think everyone could find plenty to try! Highly recommend trying it! :thumbsup2

It's difficult to know in advance what someone will like or dislike about a place. Obviously, your in-laws went to Boma and disliked it. Maybe you know their tastes better, so you would be able to question them about what they liked or disliked, to get an idea as to whether it would work for you or not.

We like Boma, but certainly for different reasons than your in-laws disliked it. I am a pescatarian, and I enjoy the wide variety of foods I can eat on this buffet. I also like the fact that the quality of the food there seems to be above that of normal "buffet quality" food. It has some interesting, different dishes to choose from, without shoving any one ethnic cuisine down our throats. We find the plain and exotic foods there to be equally enjoyable.

Cheers!

I love to try new foods, so I was really excited to try Boma. DH is getting better about trying new things, but is still not very adventurous. We both liked Boma (we had breakfast and dinner here the same day).

The menu rotates, so while one night you may hate the food, the next night could be completely different. Here's a link to the menu rotation:

They had the most delicious crab bisque I have ever had. It was heavenly!
The breakfast is SO GOOD too!

They do have "normal" food too. Heck, DH even ate some food from the kids selections.

I can't wait to go back.

Disneygirl - I sure hope you meant "crab" bisque or I might have to change my ADR in May for Boma:rotfl2:

We did not like Boma. It was highly recommended to us by some relatives and seems to be a favorite of DISers and we are adventurous eaters. We tried almost everything on the buffet and just didn't find anything we liked (we had a lot plates and bowls to be cleared away). I love soups and tried every single one on their buffet (I think there were 4) and disliked them all. At the time, I was pregnant and virtually every dessert (except for chocolate chip cookies) contained alcohol, and the cookies were not good. DH said that the zebra dome and the chocolate mousse (both contained alcohol) had a distinct coffee taste, which we both dislike. Although we greatly enjoyed wandering around AKL and seeing the animals, we will not eat there again.

Honestly, you won't know if you like it until you try it. It's not all that exotic, but it's a combination of the familiar and the unusual to Americans. DH and I both thought it was great.

We ate there in August and really enjoyed it. I am allergic to shellfish and the head chef came out and gave me a personal tour of the buffet explaining what when into many of the dishes, and what I should stay away from.

I loved it. I LOVED the 2 soups I could eat. There were a couple salads I wasn't fond of, but everything else was good. My DH ate and ate, and liked 95% of what he had.

My kids were 3 & 4, one is quite adventurous and the other is not, and they both had plenty to eat. They also loved touring the AK...they have the coolest gift shop on propery IMO. We spent close to 3 hours just wandering around the AKL.

We have eaten at Boma with both adventurous and nonadventurous eaters. . . everyone found something they enjoyed and no one left hungry! :thumbsup2

Thanks Guys...
I know that everyone has to decide for themselves. I am just wanting to give my DH something to really look at instead of going off the 2 conflicting reports from ppl he knows.
While nothing in these boards may make us change our plans...I would at least like for him to know what to plan on. That is why I asked for the good as well as the bad.

BF and I ate at Boma for the first time a couple weeks ago. We both really liked it! I am a more adventurous eater than he is, so I tried more of the more unusual dishes. There are still "normal" foods there...I even tried a little mac and cheese from the kids section! The resort is really pretty--if you haven't been there before I would definitely recommend getting there a little early to explore!

Your husband will like the prime rib and the barbecue ribs. I am probably just as picky of an eater as he is....maybe worse and I love the place! BTW, Calvin is a wuss.

We tried Boma's on our last trip and really did not like it at all. We were all for trying the different food but both of us were really dissapointed. My coworker and her family tried it this last time they went and they also said they didn't like it and wouldn't be going back. Much better places to eat at WDW. But like most things everyone is different, you'll never know until you try it. I usually give places a try no matter what the review's are just cause taste is different for each person.

I've eaten at Boma more than any other Disney restaurant, and I can't think of a single "con." :)

Not only do we eat there at least once on any Disney trip we take, I ate there *every night* on a couple of business trips, last year, and walked out completely satisfied and so full my stomach 'hurt'! :rotfl:

I always try the "odd" stuff ... some of the salads are very interesting and taste a lot better than they "sound."

The soups are awesome!
