Boma?

DD and I had dinner at Boma on Saturday. It was a return visit. She doesn't care for exotic tastes, but always finds plenty to enjoy. As others have mentioned the soups and salads are different, but wonderful. I tried the coconut curried chicken soup as well as the carrot-ginger soup, both were delicious. The nut crusted salmon was also very good.
We've also had breakfast there and it didn't disappoint.

I agree with the previous poster questioning whether you want to do Boma with a large group. There were several large tables of at least 10 in the center of the room and it seemed that they were never all sitting at once. 'Ohana is very good, the food is served family style and the atmosphere is fun....might be a good choice for a special family gathering.

I am curious to try, as I have read so much about it. I am nervous as DW is a picky eater, and I want her to enjoy it as much as I plan to. But, I am afraid there is no way it can live up to the hype! I will have to post my opinion when we get back in October.

Thanks everyone for their replies. I would love to eat at Jiko's but we are paying OOP for our 5 adult family members to join us. I am afraid of how expensive that would end up being for us which is one of the reasons that we chose a buffet. This way, everyone can have different foods but it is within our budget. I didn't know about it being so loud in the restaurant.
When I called tonight for ADR, they couldn't give us a table for 9 people ( we could get 2 tables but she couldn't guarantee that they would be close to each other and I definitely wouldn't want that). So, she was able to find a table for 9 at Beach Club Resort at the Cape May Cafe for the clam bake dinner. DH looked at the menu and he's happy with it. So, for, right now, I guess that is where we'll be eating that night.

I was looking forward to trying something new as DH and I really like foods from various cultures.

I guess I'll have to start planning another trip to fit in BOMA.

Thanks again.

We love Boma. There is tons of food and it's great. There were 9 in our party and 7 loved the food while 1 said it was "ok" and the other hated the food. It was a "must do" for my husband and I but when we go in Sept, we won't be going there. We want to try all new places this time.

Of course every one's taste is different but DH, DS-9 and I ate there in July and LOVED it! It was one of our favorites! There were several dishes I particularly enjoyed, two of which were the ginger carrot soup and the bobotie! I even got the recipe so I can make it at home now!

The biggest dissappointment was the Zebra domes that so many have just raved about. It's just a fancy version of the Reeses peanut butter cup shaped like a huge domed truffle IMHO, it was okay but non of us were impressed.

The service was fine, not extraordinary but not bad either.

Too bad you couldn't get everyone in at Boma...it really is a great place.

We ate at Boma last year and enjoyed it. The salads and soups are great also. As for the Cape May Cafe we have had one dinner there that was below average and one that was awful. The first time we went we got there a little late so thought that may have been responsible for the below average meal. Then last year we went earlier and it was bad. The foods listed on the menu are all ones we would really love had they been fresh. I think most of the problems are with the management or lack there of at this restaurant. It seemed as though they had put all the food out at once and very few people showed and they just left it out without refreshing it. The clams were way overcooked(the ones that were on top had almost dried out). I think the only thing that was good was the clam chowder which they had refreshed while we were there. We had reservations at 7:45 and arrived on time(3 adults and 3 children). The restaurant was not even half full so the greeter which was the only bright spot of the experience, checked on a table for us. After trying for 15 minutes to get a table set and find a waiter he came back and explained that he was having problems getting a table set.He finally said he would try and set one for us but explained that he really wasn't supposed to since he was only there to greet. Finally he got a young lady to set us a table and she came and got us to take us to our table.Thirty minutes has now gone by. She brings us to our table which was a table of four with two more settings added(one extra 3 on one side and 2 on the other and one on the end of the booth) Now I was starting to get a little upset, that was way to crowded and keep in mind the restaurant was not even half full. I explained that we wanted a table for six set which they did(now it had been over 45 minutes) Well we got our table and I was looking forward to some great food and unfortunately the same effort had been taken with the food as the service. Again I think if they give the Disney effort here this would be a good spot so hopefully they have made the changes. Also this was a Monday night so maybe that is not a good night here. The gentleman greeter was fantastic and apologetic throughout the whole experience and chalked it up to poor management and a staff that was more concerned with going out for drinks after work.(Mondays are usually industry night in the hospitality business which means drink specials for rest/bar employees) Anyway I hope you have better luck than we did and I have to add this was our only bad experience in the two years at WDW.

I'm sorry for your experiences there. I would have much preferred BOMA. I hope that they have learned some lessons since your last attempt to eat there. And, you are so right, about seafood needing to be fresh. We're from Maryland - so, we know our seafood.

I hope so too. If it is done right it could be good. All the places we ate at were very good last year except this one. Places that get the thumbs up from last years trip are Spoodles, Le Cellier,Marrakesh,Boma and Chef Mickeys Character breakfast at the Contemporary. The Disney Dining plan is awsome.

Hey guys! This is my first post!!!

I've just booked to go to Boma when we visit in July.

I'm looking so forward to it, most of the reviews are really good.

I could have written this myself. We are also adventurous eaters, and we also will not be returning to Boma. The soups are good, but everything else is pretty average to bad.

I would bring your family to 'Ohana instead after all, 'Ohana means family!

Food is a very subjective thing. We loved BOMA and did not like 'Ohana at all. After all we read about "Ohana we found it highly overrated. But that's just our opinion!

Here Here I will second the thumbs down or actually triple it. I was not impressed by the food but loved the resort and the atmosphere of the restaurant. DH and DS also didn't care for it one bit.

I do think however hailing originally from New York my taste buds have been very spoiled.

Have no reference on O'Hana's only for the for character breakfast and that was fine. Dinner have no clue about that.

Whatever you pick its a great adventure to go to any of the great resorts! WE loved viewing the animals so closely after dinner.
