BOMA -- You've got to be kidding me, right?

I wanted to get a price for something like Crystal Palace since it doesn't have a photo package, but my boy was helping himself to milk in the fridge, and we had a spill - LOL!

Hope this info helps, Tiger

As I said in my PP, I asked about CP(non-peak) breakfast and it is $28.75 for adults and 15.97 for kids. 1900 PF breakfast (non peak) is $26.62 and $14.90

These prices are totally nuts! As much as I  breakfast I could never bring myself to pay this much for one meal!

I agree with eliza61 about buffets in Vegas.

The buffet at Bellagio is about $37 and you have things like Kobe Beef, Lamb, Crab Legs, shrimp, oysters, scallops, Breast of Duck, Game Hens and amazing gourmet desserts that are all pre-plated for you.

So yes, Vegas may be just as expensive, but you get amazing food for the price.

You can easily find food that is as good as a Disney buffet for much less than a Disney buffet.

In fairness of disclosure Las Vegas is a culinary destination and employs many of the worlds top chefs, that's not really Disney's calling. Also, it's much easier to not be a captive audience in Las Vegas. So the comparison isn't 100% fair.

HI! We were at the Bellagio buffet in 2004, I think it was $27.00 at the time! It was the BEST Buffet I have ever encountered, EVER! They had large King crab legs, kobe beef, and high end gourmet food! It was awesome. I would pay $37.00 to eat there again. But Boma, is good, but they don't have any expensive gourmet food on their buffet. Heck they USED TO HAVE PRIME RIB and the PRICE WAS $26.99. Now they CUT THE PRIME RIB OUT AND RAISED THE PRICE 50 percent, it's outrageous.

Further these so called surcharges are a scam. Now I can see on the DAY OF THE HOLIDAY to charge a higher fee, but they don't do this. They will have a higher surcharge that will run months at a time! Disney never used to operate like this. It's really becoming to be a real joke. We will be there in January because we have annual passes, but I will tell you we are NOT renewing them.

I may have to craft a letter to Disney. Maybe I can get some of you to sign it or at least concur with it. Maybe if we get enough signatures something will happen, I don't know.

Thanks all!

Brunette

I have also been to the Bellagio buffet and found it to be an excellent value for the money. I also agree with you about cutting out prime rib and then rasing the price at Boma. If your going to raise the price, fine, but don't raise the price and give me less than what you had before.

If you craft a letter and ask for signatures send me a pm, I'll sign it. I am also planning on sending a letter to WDW about some of my concerns. I've been there (WDW) 4 times in a two year period and have spent over 20k in those visits, and had planned on going again in 2011. But I have decided to take my dollars elsewhere for our vacation plans this upcoming year. I'll go again I'm sure, I love the place, but it's no longer a done deal every year for me.

I'm sure I'll get blasted by some on the DIS for being blasphemous to the great mouse, but so be it. :goodvibes

Hi! I will definitely let you know! Why would anyone blast you, you're a "reasonable" person with the most valid logic. You make perfect sense. Disney is becoming an expensive vacation especially if you have children involved, which in fact most do. Any child over the age of 11 has to pay ADULT prices!? Why? Most kids don't eat as much as an adult yet you have to pay the exorbitant fee. Disney is no longer a value. We have annual passes and a summer villa 8 miles from Disney that's why we go so often, but I'm thinking maybe we should go on a cruise, NOW THAT's A VALUE! LOL!

Boma used to be my favorite restaurant a few years ago. Not anymore. :confused3

It's just not worth the price. The chicken and salmon have always been bland, and you can get the same bobotie for much cheaper at breakfast (if that's not absurdly overpriced now) and some zebra domes at the Mara.

I basically go for the soups and salads and no I'm not paying $40+ for a glorified Sweet Tomatoes experience.

I learned how to make their amazing curry pasta salad years ago. Now if I knock out that carrot ginger soup, I'm never looking back.

OMG!!! That soup is to die for. I would suck it through a straw!:cloud9:

I LOVE THEIR SOUP:lovestruc! Have you ever tasted their watermelon rine salad. It may sound strange but it is very good!

No never tried the salad. I will try it in March. Even though prices are going up, I will still do the DDP. Boma is still one of my favorites and the plan is worth the money, especially if you have a 10 year old who has a bottomless pit for a stomach. That is why I book mostly buffets. He can't complain. He will have a variety of food. Oh yeah and taking the grandson with us this time. He is only 4 but when we went in August, he ate non stop.:rotfl:

Thanks - I am sorry I missed that part of your message. I remember paying $18.99 a few years ago, but that was without tax included, so when you add tax, it has gone up quite a bit.

Just as clarification though, the prices you were quoted for Crystal Palace are actually holiday peak prices - I did check yesterday afterall, as well as just a few minutes ago. I also checked for Cape May Cafe too - we just paid $24.99/adult without tax included and $13.99/child for Cape May in July, so once you add tax, it has gone up to $28.75/adult = increase of $2.13, and $15.97/child = increase of $1.07/child. So, for a family of 4 (2 adults/2 kids), that's a price increase of $6.04 for 2011. Pus, tip still needs to be added to those prices! So, from a few years ago, that is now an increase of approx. $30.00, once you add the tip, for a family of 4, over a few years time (increase includes holiday upcharge plus yearly price increase). Yikes! :scared1:

Hope this helps, Tiger :)

We had breakfast there Jan 2nd, 2010 and I paid $50 for two and thought that was expensive. I love that meal, but probably skip it during peak period if paying OOP.

It's reasons like this that we do the dining plan. Just sayin'.

And Disney wants people to do the DDP, so they pull stuff like this.

This is a very scary prospect. So now I have to pay more money (rack rate) for a dining plan I don't want so I don't have to pay ludicrous speed prices at my favorite Disney restaurants?

CRAP. OH. LA.

Bingo!

The DDP saves no one money, but gives that illusion. What a clever, though disingenuous, marketing plan. Same concept as pricing merchandise (clothing?) at a high price, then putting it on "sale" and you think you are saving money.

I agree with OP. That's NUTS. We aren't really buffet people and regular TS prices are high but not crazy high. They are closer to real world. But that price for a buffet is out of touch with reality. I can see high prices for a character meal because you are, after all, paying to see characters - or even one with special entertainment (e.g. Biergarten). But I absolutely cannot see paying $40 for a regular buffet.

Oh good points! I hadn't considered that. The free dining discounts also entice people who would be drawn in by the promise of free or discounted food.

Thank you! That's another good point. But would that discourage someone from visiting Disney World more than once in a year on the free dining discount?

Yes on those points about free dining. We took our first trip during free dining and it made the numbers work. We're going during free dining again and again, it makes the numbers work for us. We wouldn't save anything by staying off-site with free dining. Even if we got a room for $100 a night (we're staying at a Mod, so compare that to an average of $180), we'd have to rent a car (we're doing Magical Express) and pay $14 a day for parking, plus pay for food OOP (at least 1 meal a day at a park and dinner either at a park or elsewhere). Add that all together, and free dining looks very good.

I keep saying it, vote with your dollars. If you do not want to pay the prices, take your dollars elsewhere! :thumbsup2

This is so true, but honestly, I firmly believe there are more who do buy the DP, then those of us who do not, or, who cook in our villas, or eat off site.

Unfortunately, I think we are a small majority. Disney is charging more for cash guests for peak season time, then they are for peak DP guests, so this proves they value the DP guests more, IMHO. DP is a cash cow, and sadly, it has cost the dining department big time.

We really are looking forward to eating in our villa! I'm sure when we get there, we'll miss some character meals, as we've had great family memories while dining with characters, but I won't miss approx. $50.00/adult to have a few second meeting with Pooh or Mickey, all the while eating inedible food. We are also not renewing our TIW card for the first time in a few years, so Disney has lost $75.00/year from us as well.

Tiger

The price for dinner to go to BOMA is now a whopping $40.00!!!!:scared1:

We will be going to WDW in January and I wanted to check the all ears website and that is what's stated...$40.00 adult dinner.

Now I can remember a mere 2 years ago we were paying $26.99!

What is going on????

Thanks all!

Brunette

Gripe if you want, jsut hope your fair about it.
That you gripe about your local grocery store where you can't get a 1/2 gallon of ice cream anymore because it's .475 gal.
Or you can't get a 64oz of OJ instead it's 58oz.
oh and both cost more.

It's the reality of the world in a current decline.
Costs go up, prices go up too.

$13 bucks!!!

If I'm doing my math right that's a 37% increase in 2 years, ( I could totally be wrong so please correct me)
My orange juice tropicana I brought Monday was $2.50 a 59 oz container.
and if my milk went up 37% it would cost me over 5 bucks a gallon. I'm still at 3.69.

Over the last few years the quality of WDW dining has decreased so much that we hardly eat a TS meal onsite. There were trips in the past that we never ventured out of WDW at meal times and now we usually have a character breakfast and maybe one other TS meal onsite and that is it.

There is no way that I could convince DH to try the Dining Plan. What we are doing lately is working for us and I am hoping that the dining situation improves in the future. We enjoy having a meal at 1/2 the price of a WDW TS and better quality.

Off topic . . . it always amazes me how much more it costs to live some places than others. We never pay more than $2.29 for a gallon of milk, and most weeks we can get it on sale for $2.

Me too. I just paid $1.69 for milk but it's usually between $2.00 and $2.50 a gallon. We don't drink OJ or eat ice cream so I don't know about that.

That's all beside the point in my world though. I can buy a lot of groceries for $40 and that does matter to me. I can also eat out for less than $40 a person and the food tends to be much better.
