BOMA -- You've got to be kidding me, right?

They're not getting me on the dining plan. I just stopped doing buffets.

Also remember that only those staying on Disney property can purchase the dinning plan, so Disney is winning on both fronts. They are selling more of their onsite rooms to those that want to eat on property without spending an arm and a leg. This was one of the deciding factors for our trips, staying onsite versus offsite. Being able to purchase the dinning plan (or get it free with a higher room rate) helps us to decide if we stay on property or off property and be prepared to fix many meals in our room or eat off site at lesser expensive sit down resteraunts.

It's reasons like this that we do the dining plan. Just sayin'.

And Disney wants people to do the DDP, so they pull stuff like this.

Totally agree with your assessment! You're right on target, and that's why they do raise prices, they want to force you to buy the DDP.

Hey Brunette!

All Ears is wrong quite often. They just seem to fill in prices, without any explanation as to peak surcharges. The price they have listed is more than likely with surcharge included, as that is in effect now. They seem to be attempting to do what Disney does - Disney does NOT tell or alert guests to surcharges, as they change pricing/menus throughout the year. Whatever price in effect at the time of dining, is the price you will see listed on menus or signs. They do not make any mention of surcharges on their menus or signs.

The problem with this is that All Ears doesn't keep up with their pricing at all, and you'll see incorrect prices all of the time. They have surcharge prices listed when it's not surcharge time, and vice versa.

Based on our prices in July, many buffets are around $35.99 with the surcharge included, you are at $40.00. No thanks!

We have cut out all TS dining pretty much for out next trips, as we are done with the crazy high prices too. We've done it all, and so we don't think we'll miss it that much. Kids will probably have a hard time with no character meals, but even they are getting tired of rushed characters, kids running around the restaurants, etc.

I also agree that Disney seems to be 'forcing' people onto the DP, by inflating its value. The fact that there is a minimal difference between non-peak and peak DP rates (2.00), yet there is still a 4.00 upcharge for cash paying guests, proves that theory, IMHO.

Happy planning, Tiger :)

Hey Tiger!!

GREAT POST! Thanks for your insight, makes perfect sense. Yeah if Disney keeps doing this you can count us OUT. BOMA is not worth the $40.00 plus tax and tip. You're probably talking about close to $100.00 per couple! PLEASE! I can go to Shula's steak house for this.

Be Well and Stay Safe!

Happy Holidays!

Brunette

As long as people are not walking away from WDW restaurants in droves the prices will continue to rise. I can easily see $45.99 by the end of next year.

Disney is getting more people on the "free" dining plan and keeping people on property. So what if not everyone buys the meal plan. As long as they can convince enough people that they are getting a great deal by buying (or getting for "free") the DDP then they really don't need the people who are not buying it because they are still making a decent profit from the ones who are.

The people not on the plan may choose to go to the higher end rest. but then again they are getting your money too so they win all around. :)

I understand all of that, but what about the free dining discounts? Doesn't this devalue the annual pass (since you still have to purchase tickets anyway for the dining plan) as well as DVC (since you don't get free dining with DVC)?

yess..but they're getting the approximate same money for signature food, not buffet food. I can get plenty of food at a signature for $40. Throw in some wine and that's what ups the price, but wine isn't included in the dining plan anyway.

Free dining doesn't have anything to do with AP holders or DVC - they're not the target. Free dining is meant to get people to book an onsite stay at WDW who wouldn't otherwise. That usually doesn't apply to AP holders (they generally get some pretty good AP discounts if they want to stay onsite) or DVC members (whom Disney KNOWS are going to come, and they're going to stay onsite). Free dining is there to get people into the resort rooms who wouldn't be there without it. Note the previous poster said that without the dining plan they might consider staying offsite.

We cancelled our Boma breakfast next week because I finally looked at the prices and was SHOCKED at how much they have gone up.

For 2 adults and one child + tax and tip it was going to be over $80. For breakfast. Frunch is good, but not $80 good.

Switched to Rainforest at AK - they have a very reasonably priced breakfast and a good looking menu.

If you're paying for the dining plan, you can get annual pass room packages with the dining plan...you do not have to purchase additional tickets (it's considered a "ticketless package".) We've done this several times - got great room discounts & able to enjoy the dining plan too.

You can also get the free dining, even with an annual pass...you just book the minimum ticket days (think the current promo requires minimum 2 day tickets) and then you don't use the tickets. The value of the tickets can then be applied towards your next annual pass purchase.

Not meant to hijack this thread - but just a word of warning about breakfast at AK. If they don't have many breakfast eaters, they pack up breakfast early, and will not serve.

We had a horribly disappointing experience at AK in July for son's 3rd birthday. We arrived for our ADR, only to be told, that they packed up early, as they didn't have enough breakfast eaters that morning. Never mind that we made an ADR months in advance - there was nothing the manager could do, as they chef had packed everything up, and would not budge.

They said we could eat lunch, but it was 10:15 am! So, we left in a very disappointed state. We ended up getting a walk-up for the first seating of Tusker House lunch, but it was a very bad experience, so I would recommend an earlier time for breakfast at RFC, just in case you had the same experience as us. We were the last breakast seating, so that is why we had an issue.

The menu did look good, and much cheaper than Boma, so hopefully, you'll get to enjoy breakfast here! I also highly recommend Kona Cafe, as they have amazing breakfasts too!

Happy eating, Tiger

WOW! I never heard of this before! You're not hijacking the thread btw either! :) I'm glad you put that out there for people to know about. That's a real shame!

We had a fantastic breakfast at RFC last trip! I had the eggs benedict and it was fab!

We are going to Boma for breakfast this time (not a fan of breakfast buffets but DH begged...). I would not pay those prices if we weren't on the DDP. I would pay them, however, for Boma dinner. I love that place for dinner!!

Another hijacker here;), but I can definitely believe these prices! Called Disney last week for pricing on the buffets for our upcoming January trip and Crystal Palace was now $29/adult! :scared1: I had to make sure I heard correct and repeated my question! Even asked if this was without the holiday surcharge and she said YES! Was considering 1900PF as well, but it was only a couple bucks cheaper. As much as I'd love to try some of these I cant justify spending $80+ on breakfast alone.

I agree that Disney is definitely trying to lure people into getting the dining plan. These prices make the dining plan look like a steal!

If it weren't for the TIW discount, we wouldn't be eating at a lot of TS restaurants, Boma included. :sad2:

We used to love our TIW card, but the raise in prices, is just too much anymore. We've been getting the TIW card for years, but the prices are just too high! $29.00 for runny eggs and dry toast is crazy!!:scared1:

Happy eating, Tiger :)

Thanks for the heads up - we are going to be there at opening so hopefully they won't have packed up yet :)

I agree that Boma dinner is excellent though - I only probably be doing it from now on when we are on the DP.

We will still eat at a few Disney restaurants but our solution is to eat offsite more. This is one huge advantage of insisting on having a car as I do. :)

I don't understand this. Boma doesn't even serve lunch!

People keep saying that Disney is trying to force us into the dining plan so it will feel like we're saving money--but let's not forget--we still have to pay an 18-20% tip on a VERY inflated tab--even if we do have the dining plan!

I agree.....we don't usually eat breakfast buffets....totally not worth the price even with a discount. :sad2:

Boma used to be my favorite restaurant a few years ago. Not anymore. :confused3

It's just not worth the price. The chicken and salmon have always been bland, and you can get the same bobotie for much cheaper at breakfast (if that's not absurdly overpriced now) and some zebra domes at the Mara.

I basically go for the soups and salads and no I'm not paying $40+ for a glorified Sweet Tomatoes experience.

I learned how to make their amazing curry pasta salad years ago. Now if I knock out that carrot ginger soup, I'm never looking back.
