I'm making ADR's for our trip coming up in a few weeks and I'm thinking of trying Boma for dinner. It's just DH & I and we have never even been to AKL so this will be a new experience for us. We are usually steak, pasta, pizza, chicken kind of people - will there be anything we like?

I'm also allergic to fish, is this going to be a problem? I know that WDW is great when it comes to allergies but I'm just wondering if there will be much there that I will be able to eat.

I really enjoyed Boma, but I like to try new things. I didn't like everything I tried, but I can say that overall I liked more things than I disliked. DH and our boys are pretty picky and they found lots to eat. They liked all of the meats, but were a little more picky about some of the veggie dishes.

I LOVE seafood and I don't remember having any there. Not saying it's not there, I just don't remember.

As for allergies, there was a young boy at a table next to us who apparently had some sort of food allergy. The chef came and introduced himself and provided the boy and his mom with a "tour" of the buffet explaining what was in each dish. I thought that was really great.

So much of the food at Boma will be things you're used to, but with a different twist - different types of fruits, or things mixed together that you aren't used to being together. There is a wide variety of dishes, so there should be lots of choices for just about anyone. It's not like they're serving antelope spleens or chilled monkey brain.:lmao:

Just a few hints from someone who has had seven or eight fabulous dinners at Boma

1 - Tell your server about your dietary issues, and he/she will be able to tell you exactly what to watch out for - you may even get a visit from one of the chefs.

2 - Start out by sampling the salads and the soups. Even if they look and sound a bit unusual, you'll be pleasantly surprised by so many of them.

3 - Take *small* portions of everything - otherwise you'll get filled up with still half the buffet left to try. You can always go back for seconds.

4 - My favorite beverage at Boma is the frunch - it's a mix of several fruit flavors that is fabulous.

5 - SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT!

6 - You don't have to start at the end of the buffet line each time you go back - there are several "stations" along the line, so it's ok to start in the middle. Just be cool about stepping in front of someone coming from the previous station and you should be fine.

Boma is my second favorite restaurant in all of WDW. I can't help but think you will be in for a treat. And be sure to explore all around the Lodge while you are there. It's marvelous.

We have eaten at Boma several times now as we are DVC owners at AKV and each time (we have eaten there 3x now for breakfast & dinner) we have experienced extremely unorganized check-in procedures and horrible service. We won't eat at Boma any longer as we always, and I mean always have to buss our own tables! Not sure what the deal is, but the service here is not good at all - very large restaurant and servers are spread so thin, perhaps? We don't ask for much as I come from a restaurant family, so I know exactly how hard it is, but we don't even seem to get basic service here at all.

Just wanted to warn you that service may be an issue. The food selection is very large, and the chefs are cool to talk to if food allergies are present though.

Happy eating, Tiger :)

Have plenty of room in your belly, there is a lot to try and you'll need to save room to do so. As mentioned, definitely try the soups they are fresh made and really, really good.

I was not a big fan of the dessert choices there, but that was great 'cause it meant I had more room for soup et al. I can always grab a Mickey bar to satisfy my sweet tooth. ;)

There are usually staffers at each food pod ready to answer questions and guide you, so be sure to let them hold your hand.

Boma is the top buffet on disney property. The variety of food is fantastic. If someone can't find something they like there, they are really in trouble!

Thats physically not possible. I really doubt you walked back stage to their dish washing area and handed the staff your dirty dishes. Its a buffet. You leave your dirty plate on your table, and the server takes it away for you.

Of course, it's possible! We didn't go in kitchen, but we did bring some dishes to another server and asked where ours was and it didn't seem to faze her at all. We had to clear and stack dishes in order to keep our table organized and neat. We are a small family - 2 adults, 1 child and 1 baby who don't eat that much at all, so we didn't have many dishes at all, but the service in May was absolutely horrible. She forgot stuff, didn't clear dishes, etc.

So, as I mentioned, we bussed our own dishes at our own table. Not once during our entire breakfast did she take a dish, cutlery or cup away. We saw her 1x, she forgot some beverages and then didn't return to bring those, nor clear dishes away, so our little table was full as they seated us at a smaller table as baby had a highchair as they seemed to have overbooked (as we heard from one of the servers who was complaining loudly to a supervisor), so it made for a tight squeeze in regards to seating and on top of our table.

Tiger :headache:

We love boma. My dd who is 4 has a gluten problem, and we've never had problems getting them to make a few different things for her with out wheat. The last time, they sent a chef to our table to assist us with any questions about what does and does not contain gluten...They were very good at service for us and they went out of their way to make sure there were no problems!
My hubby is also allergic to fish- he has a very bad allergic reaction. There was more than enough food options for him!!! Take others advise here. The menu there is different on certain nights of the week...we LOVE to go there when they do ribs or anything that doesn't "feature fish"...It's a great place!

Many, many people are hesitant to go to Boma or Jiko because it is more of an ethnic cuisine than other restaurants. However, you will most definitely find something you like. Boma does have dishes that are more ethnic, but they also have a carving station, familiar sides, etc. You will be fine.

Whenever there's a food allergy in toe, I always recommend noting it on your dining reservation and when you arrive at the restaurant itself. It is just an extra way to give you peace of mind.

Sorry you had poor service. We have eaten at Boma several times and have had excellent service each time. Also, I can't say enough about the soups!! The She Crab Soup and Butternut Squash Soup were each out of this world! The year our Vegetarian daughter was with us, a chef also walked her through the line to explain how each dish was prepared. I say it again, I Love Boma!

What menu do they use on Sunday? We have ADRs for a Sunday, but that was the only day not listed on that link. Thanks :goodvibes

It's Chef's Choice--a hodgepodge of items from the rest of the week's menus.
