Boma was GROSS!!

We've eaten there twice & had wonderful meals but it shows that everyone has different tastes

When we went we stayed at AKL and ate at Boma. I did not like it at all, but everyone else in my party loved it. But we all agreed that Zebra domes are overrated and yucky.

DH and I love Boma, but I have a daughter who'd run screaming into the night if she had to eat their food. (I do admit I don't get the excitement over the zebra domes, though. I usually just have some of their lovely fresh fruit .)

I'm with the group that prefers Boma's breakfast. The ham is wonderful! As for dinner, while I did find some of the choices tasty we won't be in a hurry to return for an evening meal.

Exactly what spices do they use? Can anyone name anything? I cook a lot and was wondering exactly what everyone was talking about. It seems like you either love the food at Boma or hate it. I have had South African food before and one thing I thought was interesting was a beef stew with cinnamon and raisins in it. I loved it, but I like Cincinnati chili, too. We are staying at AKL for the first time in December, so it will be interesting to try Boma. I can't wait!

And don't be too hard on the OP. Some things just gross some people out and others don't. A lot of it is what you grew up eating (Vegemite, anyone?)

I think they use quite a bit of cumin and tumeric.

Dinner at Boma is one of our "must do" meals each trip. I'm sorry that the OP was disappointed, but I'm not sorry that not everyone loves it. I'd hate it if it was as popular as the princess meals - I don't want to have to stress about whether or not we'll get an ADR each trip!

We didn't like Boma either. BUT it definately wasn't because it was 'gross'..it was definately a seasoning thing. We stayed at the AKL and the chicken they serve at Mara had the same flavor . I am an adventurous eater but I just didn't like the spices much like I do NOT like cilantro.
Zebra Domes: just didn't love them at all...but i think it was because i expected something different...i thought they would be more of a 'creamy chocolatey moussey' type thing...but it was more like little warm blobs of smooshy white chocolate.
I honestly think that liking or not liking Boma is simply a matter of taste for the particular seasonings...but I wouldn't define it as gross...Yak & Yeti however, now THAT was gross .

I think it is fine to say you didn't like something but the term "gross" to me implies it was dirty or there was hair in your food or bugs all around, or the food was swimming in grease,etc. Just because you didn't like it- heck, you could have HATED it- that doesn't make it "gross".

well you have your opion, that is what makes the world and our culture and all the people in it different. I am middle eastern and happen to like all those spices, what Ididnt like about DW food was Cape May buffet, it wasn't gross, I really really hated it.!

As a food review goes this is pretty much useless because, as I maintained previously, it primarily tells me that you're probably happiest at a Golden Corral type buffet and should avoid anything a little more adventurous.

There are things on the Boma buffet that I felt didn’t work but when I wrote about it, I said WHY they didn't work. One example - I made the Boma recipe for Mulva pudding at home and it was very good when served up warm and soaking in the butter/liquor syrup. It was NOT good when I had it at the Boma buffet because the cakes had the texture of cold, hard hockey pucks and had clearly just come from storage. This is, of course, an inherent problem with buffet food - it's mass production and usually not served at the right temperature.
I felt the food was uneven with some terrific dishes (like the Cocomisu, Carrot Raisin salad, some of the soups, etc.) and some real misses like the Mulva pudding, Zebra Domes, Potatoes that were too dried out, and some salads that just didn't work.

It was nasty and gross to you. You really hated it. It is not for everyone.

It obviously is not nasty and gross to many others who have posted here. I hope you are not implying that the others just don't have sense enough to recognize that the restaurant is nasty.

After a bad experience with the early chicken McNuggets I really, really, really loathe chicken nuggets. The thought of them (chopped up misc. grey chicken parts to me) just makes me want to gag.

But I would never say that nuggets are nasty for everyone just because I think they are the grossest thing ever invented. I can even understand that others really love them. Gross to me doesn't mean it has to be gross to everyone.
