Boma Questions

I am thinking of going to Boma during our September trip on the day we go to AK. A few questions: Is Boma a good restaurant for kids (e.g. do they offer kid friendly food on the buffet or to order separately?). Can you walk to the Animal Kingdom Lodge from AK or do you need to take a bus and how much time does it take? How hard will it be after we eat to get from AK Lodge back to our hotel (Pop Century)?

You will need to take a busy from Animal Kingdom to the Lodge. It is about a 5 minute bus ride since they are very close.

Boma is great for kids! They can be adventurous if they want or they can stick to the simpler fair. There were fries, chicken strips, mashed potatoes, and such available at the buffett. They will like the desserts!

Depending on what time you leave AKL it would probably be best to catch a bus to Epcot and then catch a bus to the Pop resort.

1) It is a good restaurant for kids. We were there for dinner in May, and they have a "kids" buffet, stocked with chicken fingers, spaghetti, and other familiar offerings. I saw plenty of adults taking food from this buffet as well; in fact, it is not placed lower than the rest of the buffet line (ie, kids height), so they expect adults to sample from it as well. However, I would encourage that kids at least sample some of the more different foods. They may be pleasantly surprised. If you are going for breakfast, I would assume that they would have lots more "familiar" offerings at breakfast than they do at dinner. I've heard many good things about their breakfast selections.

2) You can't walk to the AK. You would need to take a bus. The bus stop is just outside the front lobby area; it's definitely less than a five-minute walk from Boma. The wait for the bus will take anywhere from no wait (if you are lucky and bus is already there) to 10 minutes at the most. The bus ride itself is another 6-7 minutes, maximum.

3) Since there are no buses between resorts, you would need to take the bus back to AK and then catch a bus for POP. Not sure how long the bus ride is from AK to POP, and it also depends on how long you would have to wait for a bus to POP at the AK. Or you can always catch a taxi to take you directly from AKL to POP.

Just wanted to say you can also take the bus from Animal Kingdom Lodge to Downtown Disney at almost anytime and then from Downtown Disney you can take the but back to Pop.

We've done so much resort/restaurant hopping that I feel like an expert....LOL! Pleasure Island buses run until 2 a.m. so you won't have any problems with time if you go from Animal Kingdom to the Lodge to DTD then back to your Pop room.

We will be at Pop in September as well

My 3 children are not usually too adventurous in their eating habits. However, they ended up trying and loving many new foods during our May visit to Boma. Also, the CM's at Boma are GREAT with children, especially tired, cranky ones like mine.

I have to disagree on Boma's being good for kids. My niece, 4, and nephew 2, didn't seem that thrilled by the food. They had fries, chicken strips, penne pasta noodles, PB&J, grapes, & cookies on their plates and hardly touched it. They didn't have mashed potatoes when were there 2 weeks ago. I think the menu rotates though. It was dark and just not a kid atmosphere in my personal opinion and I think they do better when its brighter and more to look at. Just my opinion.

It is easy to get back to POP as everyone else said. We stayed at POP and took a bus to AK, then to AKL, ate, then took bus to Epcot for the evening. Our reservations was at 4:50 and had no problems.

Can someone PLEASE tell me what is a Zebra Dome (I know it is a dessert, but that is all) :confused3

Boma is one of my favorite restaurants at WDW. I love the food, atmosphere, and the whole experience. The food is certainly better than anything I ate while I lived and traveled in Africa back in 1993.

Boma has suitable options for kids. My son, who was four at the time, ate the predictible things that have been mentioned. He also tried some of the other stuff and liked most of it. He's big into eating meat, so he enjoyed the carved meats area.

The most recent time we were there, DS slept through the whole meal and we were not charged for him.

Even my fussy DD11 found things to eat at Boma!

They have wonderful soups & salads, breads etc...

I didn't like the zebra domes.. the coffee flavour doesn'tagree with me but I picked off the vanilla/chocolate stripe icing and ate that :rotfl:

I loved Boma, but the 13 and 14 y/o with me did not care for it. My 10 y/o seemed fine. All the kids ate off the kids buffet and enjoyed that, but they did not care for the adult food (but they did try a lot of it). The flavors here are "different" and I think most kids are not overly ambitious when it comes to exotic flavors. I really don't know how a young child would feel about it. It is certainly not child themed and it is kind of dark and there's a lot of wood in there--kind of a "masculine" place.

To the poster who asked about zebra domes--not sure how to describe them. They are round chocolate things (about 3 inches across). The outer "shell" is chocolate and it is drizzled with a white chocolate to kind of look striped like a zebra. There is an inner, creamy filling, kind of like a chocolate mousse inside that has a mild mocha/coffee flavor to it. I ate two of them. They were good, but I don't get the "rave" on these things.
