I have one remaining ts to book. I am torn between tusker house and boma. I obviously know the big difference is characters.

We are staying at akl so Boma will be easy. I want to try it for the good food reviews and the food looks appealing to me. There are good qs options in the park I would like to try so I am not worried about what to eat if we don't go to Tusker house (dinner) but I know the kids would enjoy the characters.

I guess I am wondering is Tusker house as chaotic as I have read. Is the food that much better at Boma? Is the character interaction worth it? Will I be disappointed by the food at Tusker house?

For what it is worth we are eating at crt, storybook dining at artist point, and lunch at bog different days of our trip.

We love both. I would choose Tusker House purely for character interaction. I like the food at both. Tusker house did not feel chaotic to me. In fact the seperate rooms and doors separation helped make it feel very relaxed.

We liked the food at both - with Boma having a slight edge (food-wise). The character interaction was very good at Tusker House and we did not find it chaotic at all. In my opinion, you really can't go wrong with either. If you aren't specifically looking for the character interaction, I'd go with Boma.

We like both too. I don't think you could go wrong with either. Our last couple of trips we have been leaning towards Tusker House because of its location in the park. But if you are staying at AKL, it doesn't really have any bearing. I would say that one of our most memorable meals was at Boma. On our first trip in 2007 we fell in love with their pasta salad. We still make it at home all the time.

I have been to both restaurants two times each. The food at Boma is better.

Yes it’s chaotic at Tusker sometimes and we’ve waited 30+ minutes even with an ADR a couple times. But my kids love the characters there. Interaction is great. Tusker food is good for a character buffet, but Boma food is much much better and a much quieter and more relaxed atmosphere. I feel like there are more food options at Boma too? Maybe it’s just me.

So since youre staying at AK it’s really about if you want character dining or not. If no go Boma.

Thanks for all the responses. I am still leaning towards Boma but it is good to know if we go for characters Tusker house won't be too disappointing.

Given that you are staying at AKL Boma is likely your best choice. The food is pretty similar at both and of course the characters are fun, but as others have said unless you go at an off time Tusker can be a bit crazy. I'd much prefer a leisurely meal at my hotel instead of feeling rushed in a park. And as you said there are tons of other great options in the park :-)

Boma seems to have more authenticity to the food than Tusker House, to me. The characters at Tusker House are great, there are separate dining areas so it helps with the chaos. It seems much less chaotic than 1900 Park Fare. We liked the atmosphere of Boma better since we do multiple character meals a trip. Nice to have a more relaxed dinner.

Boma hands down. We liked the food at Tusker House (but it's not as good at Boma), but did not care for the experience at all. We had to wait about 45 minutes after our ADR to actually sit. We found the character interaction to be rushed and chaotic- lots of confusion about which table to go to next, the restaurant was cramped, and it was just an overall crazy scene with kids running everywhere. My kids are 3, 9, and 13 and they have always preferred Boma, too.

It depends. Both are good. I like Boma for breakfast, but is good for all 3 meals.
If you are at AK for the day, I would not go back to AKL just for Boma and then go back to the park, I would eat at Tusker House. Even though its not a long bus ride, you will burn a lot of time traveling back and forth.
If you are going to Boma after you are done for the day, then I would choose Boma. I don't think you will go wrong with either choice.

Honestly, didn’t think Tusker House was good.. But for character interaction, sure. Boma hands down is one of my favorite spots due to their variety of delicious food selections!

I think the quality of the food at Boma/TH is pretty close, there is a wider variety of dishes at Boma. TH is certainly the best character buffet on property, if there's chaos it usually only momentary. All things being equal I'd opt for the convenience of what would be the easiest to access.:)

As my dad would say, "Six-of-one, half-a-dozen of the other."

That would be my comment about differentiating between quality of Boma versus Tusker House.

But to answer your questions more directly - I find the food at Boma marginally better than Tusker House.

For no other reason than Tusker House is inside a Park and Boma is inside a distant resort - Tusker House is going to be more chaotic, but no different than CRT and/or BoG.

Personally, I'm a Goofy fan, so I prefer Tusker House. And when staying at AKL, my family enjoys a daylight meal at Sanaa to enjoy the animals (even when we have a Savannah view).

Finally, I'm not sure why you'd eat at Artist Point and not Jiko (or Sanaa) - because getting back to AKL from there (or going resort-to-resort in general) is a bit of a task unless using a car (service).

I agree with the consensus here...the food is better at Boma, the setting is fantastic in the AK lodge. We enjoyed our meal at Tusker quite a bit, but without small children any more the characters don't do much for us. It's a nice break from the park day. Still, Boma has stayed on our must do list for many years. These days we often go there for brunch on our last day.
