I have a reservation at Boma in August and am beginning to second guess all of my reservations. Should I stick with Boma for dinner or is Tusker House a better alternative??

Tusker House is great for breakfast, but I wouldn't go there for anything else.

I think it really depends on what you want, there are quite a few issues to consider. I guess the food is rather similar, but it seems that people will say that Boma has a larger variety. But besides that (and I am sure many people here will say Boma tated better than Tusker and equally as many will claim it is the other way around...):

Boma:
Is not in the park, so you will have to transfer to AKL. If you do this after the normal early closing time of AK, you can maximize touring at AK. You also get to explore AKL which is a beautifual resort and you can have a relaxing drink at the bar there. But getting back to your resort from there might be more difficult since you would have to transfer at another park (if still open) or DTD.

Tusker House:
Dinner times might only be available rather early (due to early closure of AK) and therefore might take away from touring time. But if you get the last dinner time, you will able to walk out of AK when everyone else already has left and enjoy the empty park (maybe even in the dark). Getting back to your resort would be much easier since there is a direct bus.

I would say chose the one that fits better with your touring style! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Boma, hands-down. Tusker House is comically referred to as "Boma lite."

DH and I didn't like Boma at all. Too loud, cramped and not much we wanted to eat. We love Tusker House though. We went for lunch last year and it was great so we're going again this Dec. There were more foods we liked at Tusker House. Even though they had more options at Boma there wasn't much we liked.

I would go with Boma for dinner.

We love both Boma and Tusker House, but for a larger meal like dinner, it seems like Boma has a bigger and more varied buffet line. Plus the desserts at Boma are better.

Don't second guess your choices, your first instinct was right on!

Thanks, I think I'll stick with Boma for dinner, but every day that passes, I find myself second guessing my choices.

We've done Boma dinner and both dinner and breakfast at Tusker.

Donald's safari breakfast at Tusker is great - and so much food that if you have 1 ts to use and can make a late breakfast around 10am, you wont be hungry until late night. I mention it because of the three options from the two places, this was my favorite.

Tusker dinner was ok - a real solid buffet - I'd be surprised if you were disappointed with the food or atmosphere.

Boma has a better buffet selection for dinner and deserts - a bit more upscale of a buffet and lots of interesting things to try. Commute to AKL I'd weigh against it. I'd go again but try to schedule on an AK day for a late dinner around 7 or 7:30 close to or after park closing time. If you're planning on leaving and returning to a park surrounding dinner (even AK), you are in for a decent commute on the bus.

I would just go with what you have this time and if going back try the other another time. I think both are pretty good and you probably wouldnt leave either one regretting the choice.

Resurrecting this thread as it presents the same question I have.

Faced with two reservation options, Tusker or Boma, both with availability right after closing, which is a better option. To make the options even more difficult, what if you could choose between a regular closing day (5pm) and an EEMH day?

Oh, and you aren't staying at AKL.

They're both my babies, but Boma can be downright loud - like, Whispering Canyon Cafe loud. I find Tusker House to have that off the beaten path feel, and the dishes are unifomally delicious. It may just be that I've only just discovered Tusker, having dined about a dozen times at Boma. So there's that newness factor.

But there's one thing Tusker has that Boma doesn't: Cape Malay Chicken Curry. My favorite dish in all of WDW.

From what I understand Boma is more authentic African. If you have picky eaters, I would do Tusker House. My boyfriend is a very picky eater and Tusker House was his favorite restaurant.

That makes things even more difficult. There is no shortage of Ethiopian options near me, and I have yet to find one I like. But, if the cuisine is more South African, with a greater meld of inspirations (Dutch, Indian) things may work out better.

I understand buffets are always changing, but it would be nice to get a better menu exposition than what allears has.

We have done Tusker House for lunch so that we could get the admission to the "Finding Nemo" show. We think the food is as good as Boma's, but Boma is better for dinner if you want to eat after 5:00 PM because of the usual early closing of AK. The food selection at both is outstanding. :thumbsup2

If you don't want to take the time to go to AKL for Boma, stick with Tusker House. Nothing wrong at all with "Boma lite"!

If paying cash, do Tusker for Lunch and get Nemo seats without the wait. Or tusker dinner if you are there for EMH.

We've done Tusker House for lunch twice and LOVED it.... it was our favorite ADR both years in a row.... this past July I opted to not do Tusker and instead do Boma since everyone raves about how much better it is than Tusker. I honestly didn't like it. I felt there were fewer options than Tusker House and all 5 soup options and all but one salad option didn't appeal to me at all :confused3 I did like the falafel and a few other sides (like the boboti) but I wouldn't go back again.

Even Boma is very toned down. I've eaten at a lot of African restaurants and Boma is pretty tame. I don't think any real adventure is needed to enjoy it.

Absolutely agree! Loved both but Tuska 8am seating is best choice in AK since you are in the park before opening. Boma can't be beat for dinner. Especially if you have kids. Warning we found Boma a little loud so if you are really sensitive that would be a consideration however IMHO Boma is a must do at least once.
