Need to decide between Boma or Raglan Road for our "welcome" dinner. Yeah, I know they are very different restaurants, but my Sis wants to see AKL and eat there, while I was hoping to visit DTD and I've read so many great reviews of Raglan road? We can only pick one, and if it helps any, our other TS will be Coral Reef, Ohanas, and GF Cafe and we will be there over labor day :cool1:using Disney tranportation. Any opinions?

We recently had breakfast at Boma, which was good, but I've heard mixed reviews regarding their dinner. We ate dinner at Raglan Road before going to La Nouba later in the week, and loved the atmosphere. The food was very good, as was the Guiness!! They had a group playing & singing Celtic music, and also later on an Irish step dancer. Very lively and friendly atmosphere - great place to begin your vacation! I would choose Raglan Road for dinner over Boma, but that's just me. Raglan Road also has an outdoor patio area to eat/drink in. And also an Irish Shop attached, where we spent some $$!

Two of my favorite restaurants hands down! If you must choose I would say it has to be done by narrowing down which is more practical. Obviously if you are leaving a park to head to dinner than Boma is going to be easier to get to. If you are leaving from a resort than Raglan Road will be easier. If you are driving or if time isn't an issue than I've just written two unnecessary sentences and you should ignore me!

Logical thinking aside, just from reading your post I would choose Boma. I would do this because I think that visiting DTD is something you could do any night as it is open late. Visiting AKL is something you most likely wouldn't do unless you had a reason to be there, like dinner. You can always grab a drink and appetizer from the takeout at Raglan Road after you've window shopped, gives you some good reflecting time before you buy... save you from buyers remorse! Good luck, you'll be happy with either choice I promise!

Both are good, and you really can't go wrong with either. I would just decide if you would rather spend the night at DTD, or at AKL. If you not staying at AKL, getting there can be time consuming. And depending on how late you stay, you may not be able to use Disney buses to get back to your resort. On the other hand, all resorts have buses direct to DTD.

Get an early ADR at Boma, see AKL, and then take a bus to DTD. Enjoy downtown for a while, and then grab a snack and a pint at Raglan that night. Just a suggestion. I would definitely choose Boma over Raglan on a pure meal basis, but being at DTD would be a lot of fun.

They are both great... but sooo different.
Raglan Road has a great feel, with good food.

Boma is a great variety of flavors and the restaurant is fun, if you take the time to walk around AKL after you eat and just take in the sights it makes it even better.

Either way you can't go wrong!

I would have to vote for Boma. If you have not seen AKL it is well worth the trip and the food at Boma is very nice. Don't forget to try the all important Zebra Domes on the buffet!

I'd ask: when? Raglan Road is at its best after 9pm (on any night that isn't sunday) when the band is playing. Earlier than that, I might pick boma. Or I'd do as Mickey_Man suggested and eat at boma early, and head to RR later for a pint and dessert.

I have to choose Boma. It is a great atmosphere, gorgeous setting in the AKL, and really good food. It is something different that you can not really get many other places. We like Boma on the basis that they have so many great items that are difficult to find outside the world. Well you also can not go wrong with the zebra cakes either ;)

I haven't eaten at Boma, but I have eaten at Jiko, so I think I have a feel for the food. It really is quite good and while there are some unique things on the menu that might not appeal to the entire group, there are great variations on the "regular stuff."
I have eaten at Raglan Road and found the food very good, too. And there may be more things that appeal to a wider audience (like Guiness...jokes!) However, I think with Raglan Road you go for the atmosphere. The restaurant is very fun and loud! If you're seated in the main dining room at night while the band is playing and the girl is dancing, I would plan to enjoy the music and not try to have too much conversation...because it will hard!
We found Raglan Road to be more fun... so I think depends what you're looking for because these two restaurants are really like apples and oranges.

I have not eaten at Raglan Road, but really want to! If you are using Disney transportation, it is MUCH easier to get from resort to DTD than resort to resort (figure 20 min. each way vs. 40 min. each way). I am a bit down on DTD since they closed the clubs...:confused3

THAT BEING SAID...we LOVED Boma (everyone from 8-62, even the picky 12YO)! And AKL is my FAV resort! (Poly is close)
NOT TO BE MISSED!

We ate at both places last September, and loved them both.

That being said, I'd vote for Boma for sheer variety. At Raglin road, we shared appatizers and each had an entree and dessert, so only really got to sample a little bit of the selection, while at Boma I got to try a little bit of everything! In fact, I ate so much of the various dishes at Boma that I didn't have much room for the dessert....just a little sampling.

A bit OT but, what do you that like RR usually order there? My DH & I ate lunch there yesterday for the 1st time. He had fish & chips, & I had a burger. We shared the bread & butter pudding. Neither of us enjoyed our entree. Dessert was good, but not something I would order again. It's too rich for us. The appetizers look great, so we want to try it again for dinner. Plus, the dinner menu seems to be much more extensive. I'm just wondering what we should try, when we return. TIA :flower3:

I like Boma, though the transportation to Raglan Road will be easier.

I've actually never dined at Raglan Road, but Boma many times.

To get to Boma - go directly from a park. Take teh AK bus. Go early, and walk around the resort a bit. Maybe sit in the comfy lobby, or get an adult beverage. Take the kids to see the animals. The gift shop is kind of cool too.

The one problem with AKL is that after you dine, you may want to go back to your resort. If you decide to head back to a park, that is easy enough - just hop on the bus of choice. If you are going back to your resort, the easiest thing is probably to get a taxi. If you are on the monorail loop, you could take the bus to MK and then the monorail. If you are an Epcot area deluxe and HS is open that late, you can take a bus to HS, then the boat to your resort. Otherwise, you have take the bus to DTD, and from there to your resort. That can take a while.

There are times that springing for a taxi at WDW makes a whole lot of sense. Getting from AKL to DTD, if trying to do both AKL and then Raglan Road for a set is one of them.

Boma is one of our favorites....ask for a table around the edge rather than out in the middle. We at at Raglan Road for my birthday 2 years ago. It was fun, but so very crowded; service was spotty, and the food had been under a warmer for a long time when we finally got it. We had waited long past our ADR in order to actually get in the room so we could see the step dancer, but the sightlines were very poor. I was very much wishing we had dined some place else, stopped in for the band and a pint, and had dinner or lunch there during an off-time.

Boma, is the best buffet on property!! Its better than alot of sit downs
