BOMA or Ohana's?

Which would you choose? We ate at Ohana's last year and liked it, I'm sure the kids would like it again for the entertainment and this ADR is for 6:30 after an MK day which would make it easy to go back into the park for few night rides.

But then there's BOMA, which we've never eaten at, at 5:10 after an AK full day (staying through the parade and then coming over for dinner). This isn't such an easy ADR as that though b/c DS2 and one parent will have to leave AK at 1pm for a nap and then join the group via connecting buses to get from POR to AK. Or take a cab...

Is BOMA all that? Worth keeping and dropping Ohana's, or should we punt BOMA? How is it for kids? How do they serve the food? Is it a get it yourself, buffet line set up, or a family style buffet? Which will be more fun for the kids DS12, DD5, and DS2?

I've heard great things about BOMA, but that 5:10 ADR is just so tight against my little one's nap schedule and the other vacationers will be limp rags coming in from a full day in the heat of AK... Plus, isn't AKL under renovation in August? Half the reason I wanted to eat at BOMA's was to see the lobby and hotel grounds of AKL. Will that still be enjoyable if there are drop cloths and scaffolding all around?

Any thoughts?

I love Boma's for dinner and 'Ohanas for breakfast. It has a kid food section.

It is a buffet. Although Jimmy is, Family Style is not a Buffet. Boma's is set up with different pods like Chef Mickey is.

After dinner, you can get a pair of night vision goggles and check out the yard animals in the dark. That is very Kewl.

'Ohana is kind of a snoozer for me, but yes Boma (not all caps) is really good. If you've never eaten there, give it a try. You won't know if you like it if you don't go! :thumbsup2 It is a buffet with "pods", not a big line. It is not served family style like 'Ohana.

As to the renovation, people have been reporting not noticing any construction. I believe they are just renovating some rooms right now, and the work is all inside the hotel, but not the lobby or anywhere you will want to really go. Later they are adding a new DVC building to the west of the current one.

I went to both last year. We had fun at Ohana (our waitress was great), but hands down, we all loved Boma's. It was our fav. meal on the whole trip! The kids loved it, and they had a great kid food area (Chicken fingers/ fries/ mac and cheese/ spag.). The soups and salads were awesome!

I love Boma, my husband adores Ohana. I think Ohana's food has gone downhill a bit, but Boma has remained the same.:thumbsup2

When are you going? If it happens to be next weekend (the 18th) that you wanted BOMA, I have a later reservation (7:50pm) for 5. (that I would trade for your Ohana reservation). Eating that late normally helps you get hungry enough. And the night vision animal viewing starts at 9pm, and our kids love that.

Boma, definitely. The food is much better. It's one of my favorite restaurants, we go almost every year.

I really like both, but I like Boma better. The soups are wonderful, as are the desserts. And if they have prime rib, you must try that. :goodvibes

Wow, guys! An overwhelming majority urging me to keep my Boma (not all caps, LOL!) ADR's! I was so tilted toward O'hana too just out of laziness!

Okay, so I"m going to try to change my time on 8/30 or my date to 8/29. Once I get that done, I'll have an Ohana ADR to post on the cancellations board. PM me in the meantime if anyone reading this first wants it.

Thanks for all the feedback! I hope it's all that - now my expectations are HUGE!!

We've had Ohana's a handful of times. I really didn't love it the past few visits. Boma, on the other hand, was great. We've only been once, but this will be a must-do, based on the food alone. The atmosphere is just icing on the cake. Can't wait for our Sept meal!

Hi everyone, just a quick question. We have an ADR for Boma's in Nov. and I was considering canceling because I read on a post that they use alot of cinnamon in their cooking, is that true? I'm not a big fan of cinnamon and I'm considering backing out of my ADR. Any help would be appreciated.:goodvibes

We always have dinner at Boma on our AK day. We spend all day at AK and then head over to AKL just like you are planning. My kids are too old for naps now, but when they were younger and we were at AK, we just found a shady spot and let them sleep in the stroller. AK closes earlier than the other parks so its not like you can go back after dinner and do the stuff you missed. We like to do AK straight through, finish in the afternoon and then head over to AKL for a yummy dinner.
