I want to do a buffet dinner style dinner, one evening while i'm at disney in august, we are a party of parents and 3 older teens, which would suit us best?

boma or 'ohana for dinner, i have looked at both the menus and i just don't know??

We did both last year and would pick Boma hands down over Ohana's. We go to Boma's on every trip and have never had a bad experience. The selections are wonderful and the resort itself is worth a visit alone. We chose Ohana's for our rehersal dinner based on all the "great" reviews and were very disappointed. We felt rushed throughout the entire meal and the food was average at best. The meats were very dry, when we could get them to bring us some. We ordered a cake and I told the hostess and the server and they said they would not forget to bring it out with our dessert. Well dessert came and went and they forgot our cake, so we had our first dessert and then our cake.
We also had several people in our group with food alergies and the chef at Ohana's seemed bothered that he had to stop by our table. On the other hand, Chef TJ, at Boma was more than happy to come out and talk to the table. He walked everyone through the buffet and even brought out some amazing entrees and desserts for our party. The best part was we had eaten there during our planning trip, several months earlier, and Chef TJ walked us through the line because my wife is allergic to shellfish. While walking us through the line on our recent trip he remembered us and asked us how the wedding was going.

While we have never eaten at Boma, we have eaten at Ohana and LOVED it!!!

I think the reason we had such a good experience is because our time to eat was early and it was not crowded. Our servers were very attentive and the food was great!!! I ate the cheesy potatoes until I thought I would explode!!!

The meat was not dry at all and was very good!!

Ohana is our new must do!!!

Boma would be our choice. Lots of different things to try.

I did both last visit and if your teens are picky eaters at all then I would go with OHana because Boma has some very exotic items (though once I got myself to try them, they were actually really good). AKL is a really cool resort though and the employees from Africa are sooo sweet and friendly. I think Ohana is more young children, however the food is great and the drink selection was delicious! I don't know which one I would choose over the other!! I will be facing the same dilemma soon, though!

Without question in our book, the answer is Boma's. We used to do both so have a fair comparison. 'Ohana used to be much better than it is now. Now, the foods lean to the pork side... if you aren't a pork fan, this may not be the place for you.

The variety at Boma is far larger than your choices at 'Ohana. Its a buffet so you can get up and get as much of whatever YOU want.

Sure, you get the view of the MK for 'Ohana and possibly fireworks, but to me isn't still doesn't make it.

In summary..... BOMA!!!!!

O'hana hands down , it is my favorite place to eat at wdw , we have eaten at boma also and there is just no comparision for us , it is not even close!

I would have said 'Ohana 3 years ago. Not now. We went last month and we were very upset.

The sides were gross. the wonton chips were YUK, and the steak had to be the worst cut of beef, we chewed and chewed.

Its just not the same as it use to be.

I haven't eaten at either but...

Boma is supposed to be one of the best for kids.

Boma is also one table service credit, while O'hana is a "dining experience" and required 2 table service credits.

Honestly, if I do a luau, I wanna do it in Hawaii.

We have ressies at Boma next week....So I'm excited to try it!

Boma!!! And if the kids don't find anything they like, they will make something special for you. They made my kids for no extra charge triple decker grilled cheese sandwiches, and one night we went they didn't have chicken tenders, just chicken on the bone, and they made us a big plate of tenders and they got my little ones cereal at dinnertime!!!
Boma has a wonderful atmosphere and a wide variety of delicious foods and desserts. O'Hana is good too, but not a big variety of food to choose from.

We ate at Ohana in September and it was 1 table service credit! I've never heard that it is 2!

We tried Boma for the first time last weekend, and we're going to make it a regular stop. The food was fantastic!

We've done 'OHana several times and decided we wouldn't be back again for dinner after the menu changed a few years ago. The food's nothing special...with the exception of the dessert, which was fantastic. We were actually disappointed with our last visit there.

I'd definitely vote for Boma.

How old are you three teens and would they -- and you -- like some entertainment?

If that's the case, you might think about going outside of O'Hanas and going to the Polynesian Luau. You can get some good food and some fun entertainment at the same time.

If you're going to stick to the original two options, however, I would opt for Boma if all of you are not picky eaters. If "exotic" flavors are a turn off, then I would say O'Hanas.

Another vote for Boma! :thumbsup2

My 14 year old son would give you two thumbs up for Boma too.
It is his favorite restaurant and it is Positively my favorite Disney restaurant.

Its Buffet with interesting foods with great flavors. The prime rib is excellent and the sweet and slightly spicey flavors of the africanized items are just awesome.

Note: There is a "kids" buffet with Mac and Cheese, and Chicken tenders and such for the non adventurous.

IMO, the selection so varied that I can't imagine not finding something to eat on that Buffet.

O'Hanas is ok... Like someone said early, it used to be better. Its good if you have young ones. There are characters and they do coconut races and holahoop "contests" for the kids.

Enjoy your dinner!!

BOMA :thumbsup2 DH & I loved it. Wide variety, delicious food, great service. Plus Animal Kindgom Lodge is so pretty and fun to check out.

DH is vegetarian and Chef was right there explaining dishes that we did not recognise. DH was very pleased with this extra assistance.

We like O'Hanas much better than Bomas. I tried most of the offerings at Boma and the food was okay, nothing spectacular. If you have not seen the AKL, then it may be worth a trip. I heard Jiko was far superior. We really were not impressed with Boma at all.

We liked O'Hanas much better. The service was not good, but we almost dehydrated at Boma.s--so there are some service issues at both places.

We had a better experience at Boma. While the foods are different, they are not so exotic that someone probably would not try them. There are a TON of selections to choose from and the desserts are awesome. I also thought the service was better at Boma.

We are very adventurous in trying new foods and my daughter was even looking forward to trying some foods that are strange and unique. For some reason, she was thinking extremely exotic (goat meat, and other things that are quite weird but that's my DD11... :rotfl: ) But she was still pleasantly surprised at the selections and Loved this restaurant. She also got several glasses of the jungle juice which I don't recommend b/c I think that may be what upset her stomach!
