Boma or Jiko?

My DH and I will be leaving for our stay one week from today (hopefully as we are in the middle of a blizzard at the moment.) I would like to do at least one meal at the AKL. My DH is not an adventurous eater but I am. Suggestions on whether Boma or Jiko would be a better choice. I have read excellent reviews for both and I cannot seem to make a decision.

I'm sure either will be great but was looking for opinions. Thanks!

On our last trip we ate breakfast at Boma's. Even 4 year old grandson was able to find foods he liked, but it gave DH and I a chance to try some new things. It was wonderful....especially the juice! With it being a buffet you can find things new and also fall back on the things you know that you will like. My vote is for Boma's if you DH isn't so sure about new things. Jikko's is a bit fancier but Boma's is nice.

We have and are doing Boma this next week for Breakfast.
With DH/DS(now 3) and myself got full. they have great Muffins/ Omelet center/and I love the quiches/breakfast pizza station. Fresh fruit is always a plus from this snowbound family in Nebraska. :cool1:

Apples to Oranges. Boma is a casual buffet style restaurant. Jiko is upscale fine dining. Large cost difference.

Personally I MUCH prefer Jiko. I have food allergies and couldn't eat 90% or more of the food at Boma, and didn't feel they were at all accomodating about it. I've been back for breakfast where they were very accomodating, don't think I'll ever go back for dinner.

For our upcoming trip, we have decided on Boma because my DH and DD12 are adventurous, but my DD6 and I definately are not. I was afraid that Jiko wouldn't have many options for us. Lindsyb, please let us know what you thought when you return.

Jiko is my favorite of these two restaurants. There really are few menu options at Jiko for a nonadventerous eater, however the filet with macaroni and cheese would likely fit the bill. Also, I am sure the chefs would be able to accommodate a less adventerous eater, by leaving sauces off, etc. But, then why bother paying higher prices for dumbed down food? Boma has options for everyone. There would be interesting new foods for you to try, and some non-threatening options for your DH. So, in your circumstances, my vote would be Boma.

I have done both and prefer Boma. There's just so much more to sample at Boma since it's a buffet. Jiko was okay, but did not live up to the hype. I had the octopus for an appetizer and the shrimp as an entree. They were okay, but not spectacular. I loved everything I tried at Boma. The dessert selections are great. You get much more for your money at Boma.

Thanks for the replies! Sounds like Boma would probably be a better choice for us. I'll post a report when we return!

Plus, Boma has a separate station that is all "non-adventurous" food. Mac & cheese, chicken fingers, the usual kids station stuff, but good. They also have a meat station where you can find carved meat and things like flank steak that's really yummy. My DD used to stick to those selections, but she will try more things now.
