Me, DH and DS9 and DS7 out for dinner. Which would you choose? Boma or O'Hana?

DH and I have been to O'Hana years ago. Think the kids would enjoy the food and the rowdiness .

We've never been to the AK resort. If we ate at Boma, we could take a look around. Also, sounds like a real great value. Is dinner rushed there? (That's my pet peeve LOL).

Would appreciate your input.

Oops. Meant to put a question mark there -- not a "winker". :p

WE have ate at both and as a family we like ohana better. But if you want to try something different go for Boma. We were not rushed at either place but we did wait for a while at Boma with an early PS . I don't mind waiting but DD6 and DD2 were not happy. They of course ate off the kids pods would not try anything different not even desserts. Dh preferred Ohana over Boma. I liked both. We also checked out AKL while we were there. It was nice. DH thought it was a little dark inside. I don't think it is any darker than the Poly. Great views of the animals.Happy choosing!

hard decision. Both are wonderful restaurants and are also attractive in other ways (boma to look aorund AKL, 'Ohana's for the fireworks view and the fun and games). Boma probably has a little better food, but of course it is buffet. It is nice to have the food brought to you at 'Ohana's. If possible eat at both. If not, I think if I had to chose it would be 'Ohana's just for the fun atmophere for the kids.

Both are great. But the fireworks can be seen from Ohana.

What a tough decision. Man. I couldn;t make that one...if it were all adults. But I think the kids would like 'Ohana better for the food and fun. If you go to Boma they do have the kids buffet and while the restaurant is not"fun" so to speak, you could go view the animals before and after dinner. Lotta help I am!!!

Both are terrific. You would have a wider selection of food at Boma.

The food is excellent at both, but with kids, I would vote for O'Hana. They have games and songs for the kids, and it's nice to have the food brought to you. O'Hana is still all you can eat- but they just keep bringing it to the table until you are stuffed. Since you have to make such a tough decision, be SURE to make reservations during a time that you can see the fireworks from the restaurant, OR the electric water paegant. Some times of the year you could fit in both during a long meal. When you check in, ask for a window table to see the fireworks. We always wait until we can get one. It's a wonderful atmosphere and the food is always outstanding. Have fun!!

Ugh! I didn't even think of the fireworks! Maybe we should make a PS at O'Hana and just drive over to AKR on one of our "days off" just to look around.

I'll have to look up fireworks schedule for that night (Valentine's Day).

Thanks!

Me again. The fireworks are scheduled for 7:00 that night. Two questions:

1. Can you actually see the fireworks from in O'Hana? I can't remember which way the restaurant faces.

2. If not, is there somewhere we could go at Poly, either inside or outside, for a glass of wine and to view the fireworks before our PS. I assume the fireworks would be done by 7:30 ???

Thanks for all of your help.

1) Yes you can, from some tables. We were seated on the windows facing MK last year, but this year we were on the window facing towards the direction of the wlkway to Wedding pavillion and GF.

2) I think there is a bar/longue next to 'Ohana but not sure as not big drinker and not sure if you can see from there. Last year we go to the Poly as the fireworks were going so we watched from out back on the way to the pool. This year we got there early and walked down behind the Poly and found a swing seat and watched from there and then went in for our PS.

I too am very interested in the fireworks view (inside and outside) from the Poly. We are choosing between Boma and O'Hana's for one of our evenings out during the week starting (Saturday) March 15th.

Our children are 15, 13 and 13. It really sounds as if we would probably enjoy O'Hana's more, especially since we have already explored Animal Kingdom Lodge and surrounds. (BTW, the exploring was an absolute delight! We did this one afternoon last summer and grabbed a bite at Mara.)

Mara was a real disappointment in my opinion...sandwiches mostly and/or fast food at twice the price, no atmosphere and mediocre food at that...the watermelon in the cut fruit bordered on rubbery) and a small (school lunchbox size) package of chips was almost $2 with tax. Most items were ala carte. My (ordinary) breaded shrimp came with fries and was $10 for a medium serving. (I substituted the fruit for the fries)...even at that though, exploring AKL was still great! Maybe I'm being a little tough on Mara...I suppose it's just meant as a stopgap measure to take on your way to and from the parks.

So what do you think? Would teenagers enjoy Boma or O'Hana's more?

Love 'em both - ate at both last month - but for kids, even older ones, I'd have to give the not to 'Ohana. For the fireworks, it's easy to walk down by the lagoon and watch ... as nice as it can be to watch from the windows, you can go right down to the beach for an unobstructed view.

How 'bout doing 'Ohana for dinner and Boma for breakfast one day? Dinner or breakfast is only as rushed as you want it to be.

With kids the ages that yours are, I think they would like eating at 'Ohana better. The atmosphere is relaxed, and there are things for them to do, and a great view of the MK (make sure to ask to they can be seated where they can see it. Last time we were there, we were at the other end where the bar used to be, and couldn't really see anything, but enjoyed the food and service, just the same!

As for Boma... DH and I did that without DD, and I think it was for the best. I don't think she would have wanted to sit there while DH and I gorged ourselves on "weird" food (her word, not ours). It was somewhat loud, and really didn't have anything to entertain a kid, while you ate.
